I'm not even talking about Banner (Norton)/Hulk himself. I'm mostly talking about the supporting cast and characters?

I give a definite yes (unless they would be stuffed in there with no purpose)

Yes of course! They play an instrumental part of the Marvel film universe. To even consider not including Hulk and the main supporting cast members would be absurd. Especially with the ending of TIH.

Kinda off topic...but the discussion sparked this thought...
is Jeff Bridges returning for Iron Man 2 and beyond?

That would be difficult, considering the fact that Jeff Bridges' character, Obadiah Stane, is dead. It was never clearly stated/showed that he died, but there was this conversation between Tony and Agent Coulson at the end of the film:

Tony: There's nothing about Stane here.
Agent Coulson: That's being handled. He's on vacation. Small aircraft have such a poor safety record.

I take that to mean Stane is dead, and the cover story will be that he died in a plane crash on the way back from vacation.

But, I guess Jeff Bridges could return for flashbacks involving Obadiah Stane. If he does so in Iron Man 2, however, it was kept under wraps because I haven't heard about him filming any scenes.

The movie is going to be set before TIH right? How would any of the characters be used in IM2?

There is no confirmation that the Avengers movie will be set before TIH, it's all fan speculation at this point.

At the end of the movie Stark says WE'RE PUTTING (present tense) a team together, not WE HAVE PUT (past tense) a team together. That could mean the Avengers movie takes place after TIH, or at least at the same time as TIH.

I don't know how they'd use any of the characters in Iron Man 2, except maybe to have a cameo of (pre-Hulk?) Bruce Banner, or General Ross. But at the end of TIH Tony does say "I hate to say I told you so" to General Ross in regards to the super soldier program not working. So I guess it would be cool if in IM2, when Tony refuses to hand over the Iron Man armor to the government, General Ross claims they don't need his suits because the super solider program he's working on with Bruce Banner will produce far more useful soldiers. Tony could disagree and tell him nothing good could come of starting that program back up. General Ross could then say "we're testing our formula in X number of days whether you like it or not." thus giving the audience a possible reference to the exact moment Bruce Banner turned into The Hulk.

 ...this is the Avengers forums

I think we know that, thank you.

Gee.....go off topic once.....

Well... according to the movie at some point, the opening credits take place over the course of five years, so it doesn't make much sense for Stark to get into the Avengers thing, wait five years, THEN tell Ross about it. I assumed IM and IM2 took place after the opening credits of TIH, then after those, TIH took place, with Banner getting found and all.

They should bring in Rick Jones to be Cap's assistant, then spin him off into TIH2.

Liv Tyler yes, idiotic Leader guy definitely not.

Blonsky & Ross if required.

At the very least, Betty Ross should be included. She should start working for SHIELD, as in the Ultimates.

Thunderbolt Ross will also crop up somewhere, probably.

Definitely on-board with that idea...

Ross, if no one else, HAS to be in the Avengers... Assisting S.H.I.E.L.D. and whatnot.

Being the self-proclaimed #1 HULK fan I'm just glad it was finally verified that HULK will be in the Avengers, as should be!

I believe both Betty and General Ross will play major parts in the Avengers. General Ross assisting in the capture of Banner and Betty as the advocate to let him go.

I think that some of the characters in the Hulk movies should be in The Avengers.

Thunderbolt and Betty Ross *should* be included in the movie, but so far, there's no indication that William Hurt or Liv Tyler (or any other recasts) have been spotted or even rumored to be in this.

Same with Tim Roth as Blonsky, although those little Marvel One-Shot snippets with Coulson and Sitwell strongly hint that he might play a role.

I certainly wouldn't expect to see The Leader in the Avengers at all, though. Definitely hope he shows up in either the Hulk TV show or an eventual sequel to TIH.

They got three dangling plot points from the other three more successful franchises to deal with:
1) How Tony Stark goes from being a consultant to a full fledged avenger
2) How Steve Rogers was on ice for 70 years and is just now returning to the world
3) How Thor is able to return to earth
Not to mention the introduction of Nick Fury and the other members of SHIELD, who appear to be playing a very integral part in this film.
They've got bigger fish to fry than the TIH cast. What role could they serve in the Avengers?

I think when they have all the Avengers' arch rivals team up against them, considering that Abomination survived, they should give him and Hulk a rematch. Maybe during this time Abomination could have gone through some further mutations setting into a final form that aesthetically resembles his comic incarnation a little more faithfully.

In other words....the Masters of Evil. I don't know that we'll get'em this movie but that'd be a good place for a sequel to go. Then got to the universal-scale threat(s) in the 3rd movie(Thanos, Korvac, Beyonder, etc.)

When you include so many different characters with their own separate stories, I doubt there's decent room for everyone, let alone the other characters after every superhero involved. They have to decide whether this is a separate story for the heroes involved or it is some continuation for each franchise.

Should we bring here Ross, Betty, Blonski, Sterns, Leonard, Pepper Potts, Rhodey, Happy Hogan, Jane Foster, Erik Selvig, Darcy Lewis, Thor's friends, and whoever is in Capt. America, besides all the superheoes for a 2 hour movie?

"The Consultant" short served a few key plot points. It explained why Stark was referring to "putting a team together" when he was only a consultant; and it helped write Ross and Blonsky out of the Avengers. So the problem is solved IMHO.

We are getting Banner back at least. Although it's going to be really tough to explain away the lack of Jane Foster, Betty Ross, and Pepper Potts from this film. Did these guys suddenly decide to forget the loves of their lives?

Maybe a Batty cameo but only if it's important to the story.

Maybe she's the only one who can calm him down during a rampage.
