Should they make another Punisher movie?

No, I don't like the idea of a PG-13 Punisher. I would like them to go the lower budget route with it. I see many straight to DVD movies all the time that have the requisite violence and a good enough story to make me think that The Punisher done in that style could be a pretty successful series. Just from last year we had the new Universal Soldier, The Tournament, Blood And Bone and Give' Em Hell Malone. All pretty awesome movies that didn't break the bank in being made, all of them looked good and I'm pretty sure did well in sales.

im willing to bet a pretty penny that all the people that say that the Punisher is just some guy running around with a skull on his chest have never read Ennis' MAX Run on the Punisher. Those stories make The Punisher relevant to everyone.

as for PG-13, i rather have them not make one at all if thats the case.

It depends. If its an R rated movie masked as an extreme pg-13 that tells a good story then ok. But if the movie continues to be a silly gore-fest then theres just no point in making it. They need to play the industrial espionage angle.

Yea I rather have a good PG Punisher than a ******ed R Punisher

Recently one of the head Marvel film guys said that they actually haven't completely ruled out making R-rated films, and after The Avengers Marvel plans to do smaller-mid budget films for some of the B and C level characters. So, as long as Lionsgate doesn't try to go for one last cash grab with the character, a new Punisher film just very well may be in the cards.

At this point, I really don't care if it's PG-13 or R, just that if it does happen that they have a good script, good director and great performances.

Maybe a crossover with Daredevil or an appearance by Moon Knight will make the film more 'comicbooky'?

Seems like Punisher is just a guy with a gun and lots of weapons....

There's no real problem with that fact, so what if the only things that distinguishes the Punisher from other revenge/vigilante films, is he wears a skull on his chest. As long as the movie's are well made and can hold interest, who cares if it doesn't reinvent the wheel.

Well... at least the villain has to be interesting... I dont want another revenge story like Thomas Jane's Punisher

Lionsgate I think. But if theres no next movie, it will revert back to Marvel in.. 2013? I'm not sure actually

Well, the rights for the character were going to revert in around '08 or '09, which is why Lionsgate plowed through production after Jane left to get PWZ done. So I'd wager it's about the same time frame, so yeah around 2013 seems about right.

what i dont understand is that Lionsgate just released Kick Ass and it was such a good/violent movie that was pretty close to its source material so whats the problem?

punisher has a name, kick ass was practivally unknown

Maybe because Kick Ass was a specific series so they could follow closely..?
But punisher has a huge history... so you will have problem deciding the story and characters and stuff... hmm

Thats a good point. The Punisher has kind of been all over the place in his long history. You have gritty and real stuff like the MAX series and then you have ******** like Frankencastle ()

I think most Punisher fans would want the MAX version :yay:...

This.

while i love the MK Run and a lot of the older comics I think the MAX series is really the only way to do the character justice. The only change id make would be to reference the Marvelverse in his movies one way or another, which is totally possible if done right, since Ennis completely removed any link to that universe in the comics save for Nick Fury.

I don't see what's so great about the Punisher and justifies three movies. Use the energy for better characters.

You would think he would be the easiest comic book character for Hollywood to get right. There have been better Punisher movies then the actually Punisher movies. For the record, I enjoy the last two. Dolph's not so much. I really think if they had a decent budget and stayed true to the character and didn't make it a cheesy gorefest, it could be successful.

I forget if I responded here...but I'll respond again...No.

This franchise failed 3 times to take off...only the 2004 Punisher was even watcheable; the other two were disasters.

The truth is, Punisher seemed cool to me when I was 13 years old...but now he seems like a nauseatingly typical revenge/ vigalante story, with a heavy emphasis on gratuitous violence and grim darkness over any actual depth.

apparently you three have never picked up a Punisher comic let alone a MAX one.

Here's the thing, Kick-Ass was made independently. Lionsgate swooped in and bought the distribution rights, so the marketing was really the only involvement they had with the movie.

Tom Jane pretty much nailed it in an interview a while back. The character strives for realism, but the studio suit only see "comic book" and feel the need to stick goofy **** in the movie.

I think if you combined the Max storylines In The Beginning and Up Is Down Black Is White for a Punisher film (R-rated or higher, dark, gritty and serious in tone of course), you'd have the ideal live-action Punisher film. Even The Slavers would work excellently.

I think if Marvel could get someone like Michael Mann to Direct, David S. Goyer to write ( The First Blade Movie just screams Punisher Max to me for some reason) and Garth Ennis to co-write and Produce it We'd have the perfect Punisher film.

Personally I think Gerard Butler would make a fine Punisher (I know I'm gonna get flamed for that) even though I'd like to see Jane come back.
