Should they make another Punisher movie?

I hate 2004's Punisher. It's a decent action flick but with Tom "Angel's face" Jane in the role of a supervigilante ruthless and bad...And a villain played by John Travolta in a way ridicolous.

Ah, if they used Will Patton as the villain...And if they mix the screenplay with Michael France's one (who is more faithful than that piece of s..t!).

War Zone was more faithful and have a good Punisher (Ray Stevenson is Punisher) but awful acting, awful screenplay, awful dialogues, awful ending.

The score for both are really good but i hate both of them. Two fails for a Punisher's fan. I ever think a real true Punisher can't talk very well about one of the two because are both extremely bad. I actually still wait to see the true Punisher on the big screen. No a only-hard violent movie with no plot and awful acting. No a sunny adaptation with an actor who's looks like my undefended next door and faithful to comics like Man-Thing's movie was.

I hope Marvel Studios can bring Punisher justice.

Im not even going to get into how wrong and fail that statement is. Most people I know love the 04 film.

And I am a big Punisher fan, so dont tell me what I can and cant like. The 2004 movie was awesome.

Oh yep, a movie that ripped off Mad Max's movie is my dreaming movie! Wow.
Frank Castle's family death? Mad Max.
The John Saint's bomb? Mad Max.
Jonathan Hensleigh said pratically he have based his movie on Mad Max

A movie about an FBI agent ? Frank has only a chid and called...Will? The all parents are still alive in the movie? Where's Sicily's saga?

John Travolta's villain is "Howard Saint" and not Bruno Costa? Tampa and not New York? (ah yes, Castle has punished in Florida in the comics, yeah...But it's not an excuse. Hensleigh said he can't filmed in NY and they filmed in Tampa!).

No, i can't love that movie, imho. It's a decent movie but when i think it's a Punisher's movie i start to hate him. Punisher appears only in the only 10 minutes, stop. I can't support all the whole ridicolous storyline about Joan, Dave and Bumpo. Yes, was in the comics but in the comics is better!!!

The Russian, the final fight, the "suicide scene" and Will Patton's Quentin Glass are the things beautiful about the movie. All the other things are s..t.

(And PWZ: Ray Stevenson, the score, the final fight are the only things good of that whole movie. So 2004's is more decent but still bad, imho).

With the budget they had, they would have had about a week of filming in New York.

As an adaptation of WBF and Year One, I think it's pretty close to the comics.

I'm glad to hear most of you actually enjoyed the '04 film. Again after watching it, i'm trying very hard to understand why this film was so critically maligned. Just goes to show you cant trust critics all the time. Warzone i can understand, but not the '04 one.

Yeah, it's pretty close and decent. Not that close, but still good. Only as a Punisher fan i want a true Punisher's movie. And i still wait.

this, all your complaints are pretty stupid IMO. just because they pay homage to Mad Max, which is basically The Punisher on the road, it makes the movie bad?

sure they didnt do Vietnam but he was Marine vet in the movie. his son's name has NO impact whatsoever and my only complaint would be the Costa thing.

i dont see the reasoning behind your distaste. it was an origin story that saw him becoming The Punisher.

Costa crime family, Saint crime family who really cares haha

thats my opinion at least. I am one of the few that really liked John Travolta in this movie.

i never bought jane as punisher i liked ray better

jane is too pretty boyish imo it is like aaron eckhart playing punisher

ray has that beaten up man look to him

Well, he did actual go down to Florida to kill the Costas in the comics, and this movie for the most part based around the Year One story line, where Castle doesn't become the Punisher until like half way through the final issue.

Yeah, he was an FBI agent, but he was also a former soldier. Another plus, the movie had him using 1911 colt .45 pistols.

I don't get the Jane = pretty boy complaints. The dude has got some wear and tear to his face, and had that stone cold killer look when firing his guns.

I hope Marvel Studios can bring Punisher justice.

You should really speak for yourself and stop trying to appoint yourself spokesperson for all Punisher fans.

id love Tom Jane back but would be more than ecstatic if Jon Hamm gets it...but lets get Jane back.

I liked the 2004 movie and I really like Jane as an actor but it just wasn't my vision of what Punisher movie could have been. If we could take the best from 2004 and the best from PWZ I'd be happy. Hopefully Marvel will do Frank justice.

Does anyone know how to start a petition to get Jane in the new Punisher movie?

petitions dont work and it is not really worth it lol

he was good but not so good to warrant a petition lol

Yeah I just really want him back D:< I thought he was the 100% perfect Punisher. He looked tough and he also made you feel for him. Exactly how I pictured he would look and sound in real life.

Does anyone else hope that there is a family massacre scene? One of the many things that made me mad about War Zone was that it only had an extremely brief flashback. I wanted to actually see it again :/

I hope in the next one they show it and make it good like the 2004 one did.

You're a sick puppy to want to see a family get massacred.

I didnt mean it like that :/ it just provided so much emotion and made us feel for him more so then in War Zone. Im no sadist.

A better idea would be trying to organize an email campaign or something. Maybe check out the forum on Jane's website and some other comic and movie sites and see if there's any interest.

Still, I have my doubts that the online presence for this would be sizable enough to make much difference. But you never know!

1. Petition never works.
2. Marvel Studios reboot all characters when the rights reverts to it.
3. They surely ignore 2004's movie and War Zone and give to Punisher a 4th chance.
4. They surely casts someone other as Frank Castle. Someone like Hamm or Butler.

Yeah, man, he had a Charles Bronson/Clint Eastwood coldness to him when he was handling firearms. He had the vibe down. Stevenson's Frank would've worked if better written. The guy through the majority of the movie is like a shark going after one prey to the next, but there has to be something the audience can respond to and connect with. Frank's a butcher but he's also got to have some kind of humanity to him too. I think Jane's Frank had that, plus he had dark humor. Stevenson's Frank barely talked.

well i paid for something resembling an 80's man flick so i enjoyed every aspect of The Expendables haha

I paid for the same thing. And I'm pretty sure I didn't get it. But anyways...

I hate 2004's Punisher. It's a decent action flick but with Tom "Angel's face" Jane in the role of a supervigilante ruthless and bad...And a villain played by John Travolta in a way ridicolous.

I don't get this "Pretty Boy" insult towards Jane. Are you even really a Punisher fan? Frank Castle is a good looking, handsome man. As is Jane. He's NOT SUPPOSED TO look disheveled and worn yet. It's an ORIGIN film! It's the road to being a ruthless vigilante. Go read Punisher: Year One and stop pretending like the story doesn't exist. He's the Punisher ONLY for the second half of the last issue. Must be a crappy Punisher story then, right?

Michael France's script was set in Florida from the get-go, if i'm not mistaken.

How was War Zone more faithful? The story takes place 5 years after the death of Castle's family, so naturally he'd be worn out and dead looking. That's it! Nothing more. Jigsaw was a parody of himself, all the characters who appeared in the MAX series were their characters in name only and therefore a huge waste of opportunity. It wasn't faithful at all. If you wanna argue that it was somehow faithful to the color palette, I'd concede defeat. Other than that, you're crazy.

The War Zone score was generic action movie music. The 2004 film had a great score that really complimented the action and drama, and was moving on it's own.

You're also crazy if you're trying to say I can't enjoy the 2004 film. Because the film was great and it only gets better on repeat viewings.

John Travolta's villain is "Howard Saint" and not Bruno Costa? Tampa and not New York? (ah yes, Castle has punished in Florida in the comics, yeah...But it's not an excuse. Hensleigh said he can't filmed in NY and they filmed in Tampa!).

Hensleigh was right about filming in Tampa. They had no choice. It's damn expensive to film in New York. They got a great deal to shoot in Tampa and that's why they took it. That's film making.

The Punisher is the Punisher in the second half of the last issue of Punisher Year One. Go read it. The movie accurately adapts that.

It was, and he was the one to convince Marvel and Artisan to have the film set down there. Hensleigh did look for other locations to shoot, but it all came back to the money and Tampa was what was affordable.
