Should they make another Punisher movie?

I would love a period Punisher. That would be the ****

Too similar to Taxi Driver.

I didn't even have Taxi Driver in mind. I was thinking of Death Wish, which was a 70s movie and is probably the most similar to the vigilante concept that the Punisher started out as. A film set in 70s New York with gang warefare and violence doesn't automatically equal Taxi Driver. It depends on the plot as well as many other things. Otherwise by that reasoning, Death Wish or The Warriors should be far too similar to Taxi Driver as well.

Yes, if the Punisher movie with Jane had been made with Stevenson we would have the perfect Punisher movie!

No. It would be crap. Stevenson is good as the ruthless Punisher but is a horrible Frank Castle.

And Thomas Jane is beyond perfect. Every time I read a comic with The Punisher in it, its Thomas Janes voice that I picture, not Stevenson's.

There barely was any Frank written in PWZ and Jane was beyond perfect in your opinion.

But Thomas Jane wanted the Punisher films be like Taxi Driver. Having it set in the 70s would be great.

But we've had THREE Punisher movies that tried to set it in modern times and they haven't managed to make any of them that distinguishable from other run-of-the-mill action movies. Making a period 70s Punisher movie would look visually different and would be a retro, throwback to a different time. It's not just about what the Punisher has to deal with now, it's about the setting that he could be in and how well he would work in that era.

i wonder how many great things wouldve never happened if people gave up and dismissed something so easily.

Lucky man only tried flight 3 times huh? If those Wright brothers didn't get it right we would have to take the train to Japan or something.

Same here. For me, Jane's voice is for Frank what Kevin Conroy's voice is for Batman. Very defining and irreplacable. With all due respect to Ray who I like a lot as The Punisher, Jane will always be the best in my book.

I loved Tom Jane's voice a lot an am often inspired by it if I want to imitate the Punisher or something of the sort for kicks. It's perfect in my opinion and I'll explain why. Voicing Frank Castle and Punisher needs to be a balancing act and should be more than super deep voiced guy who eats nails and sandpaper for breakfast in the noir cafe. If you go with that approach, in all the happy flashbacks it will be weird to hear the gritty voice trying to be a normal father; if you dial it in you risk coming off angry and intense when you don't intend to be. TJ's voice was deepish, but not brutish deep, he also had a detached coldness, as if he was dead inside for ages. He was also able to magnificently work with inflections. Look at '05 game's response to a thug yelping "I have a family!" Frank's "So did I.." isn't an angry or badass response, but rather a sad and reflective one. To be the Punisher you must be able to be Frank as well, though with that being said, don't over do the light fatherly moments with Frank or you risk being campy and full of cheddar cheese.

Though this isn't objective as it should be; I haven't seen PWZ other a couple clips, so I haven't seen Ray Stevenson as Frank. I did like his voice though.

Much as I liked all three Punisher movies (yeah, I said it!), maybe a TV series wold be better for the character?

I always felt an animated series aimed at mature audiences like the old Spawn cartoon series on HBO would work great for The Punisher.

He might be one of those Ten minute short films Marvel have hinted at that they will put infront of Thor and Cap. Just ten minutes of Frank infiltrating some building or whatever... then at the end N Fury comes out and asks him to join the Avengers.

Well yeah but of all the choices that's the crappiest. When Marvel made the announcement of his requisition, I'd think they have more in store for him than just 10 minutes.

Surely if people want to see a guy with guns and knives, there are other movies to go to. Like The Expendables

a 10 minute short with The Punisher would be great, it shows us the direction Marvel wants to take him and how well they can do him.

I think that would be a waist. You can take a 10 minute edit from any of the 3 Pun movies and get an idea of a kickass Castle. We've seen that already. If rather they get their creative team working on something more than a 10 minute short. I hope they use those shorts on someone we've never seen.

So? Thomas Jane played a better Punisher as well. Having the cold and detached countenance and he acted more like him as well. That ending line is better then anything said in War Zone.

But Thomas Jane wanted the Punisher films be like Taxi Driver. Having it set in the 70s would be great.

He wanted it to have the feel of 70's crime films like The French Connection, Death Wish, Taxi Driver and more.

What made those films great was that it showed a seedier, darker side of New York. And that is still possible to accomplish, even now. It just takes the right vision and Marvel willing to put up a budget to actually shoot in New York and some of New Jersey to accomplish.

What I want the new Punisher film to be is a throwback to the previously mentioned kinds of films. A film where Drama came over action. And when there's action, it's exhilarating(French Connection car chase) and you can clearly see what's happening(Taxi Driver or Death Wish or Dirty Harry). It seems nowadays action movies are either a throwback to dopey 80's action films with gratuitous violence and one-liners or Bourne wanna-be's with action sequences that you can't see.

The new Punisher film should be violent, yes, but not War Zone 80's action movie violent. I also think the humor should be very limited. It should be very serious. No one liners. The action should be watchable and not choppy and shakey. The villains should be deplorable in every way, characters you really hate.

It would actually be cool if they did a Punisher story set in the 70's. Maybe for the 10 minute short? If they did that, adapt Tyger in some capacity. Not sure if the story could be told in 10 minutes. Maybe 20? But that, to me, would be the perfect introduction to Frank Castle. It would show that he's more than just the comic book version of Death Wish.

But then the question is, do you continue the 70's in a feature length film, or do you update it to now, and make Frank an older guy?

Isn't Law and Order shot in New York? That is probably one of the few modern shows that has that gritty, seedy New York feel, particularly Law and Order: Criminal Intent. If Dick Wolf can have the budget to film in NY for that show, why not Marvel?
