Should they make another Punisher movie?

I personally believe that The Punisher with Thomas Jane was a mediocre film that built up the potential for an awesome sequel. I waited for a long while for that day to come, but instead we got the heart wrenching fail that was Punisher: Warzone. I think that they should do something that hasn't been done before and continue with a sequel based off of a movie that has since had a reboot. If they continued the story with Castle in New York doing what he was always meant to do than I know that Thomas Jane could pull off the role with ease, and with fanatic as he was about the Story and the character I see it going well. Under proper direction, with the right setting and gritty realism, we could see a Punisher film that could climb its way to TDK proportions.

the thing is that The Punisher, with a great script and support, could be as good if not better than TDK.

Some days I even think that Jane's Punisher or even Daredevil Director Cut is better than TDK. Or maybe Im just drunk.

If Marvel can recast Edward Norton, I say forget about Thomas Jane ever returning

The thing about continuing from Jane's Punisher is, does he really need to come to NY? I know it's in the comics so it's almost sacred but NY is pretty safe and clean compared to a lot of other cities now. The NY of the 70's in the Mayor Dinkins era is not the same city it is now. Why not have each movie in a different city? New Orleans is pretty bad, so is St Louis, Detroit, and a bunch of other places. We don't have to stay married to the NY idea since they didnt start there.

The Punisher and NY city are almost synonymous with one another. Setting it in another city (as was done in Thomas Jane's Punisher) just gave it a feel of a different action here and not an authentic Punisher feel. That's why I say that it should be in the NY of the 70s. Either that, or the film makers need to pretend that NY has deteriorated and gone back to that level of violence and crime that it used to have. The Punisher in Florida just didn't feel right.

Almost is the operative word there. The Punisher has operated in pretty much every state in the union and gone overseas many times. Hell even last year there was a great road trip including Louisiana. Would I love to see the Punisher in NY? Sure, I am a New Yorker, I loved seeing Spider Man being filmed in my neighborhood (Aunt May's house was across from my bud Tim's place), but I'm not married to the idea at all.

If they can film in another city and make it authentic then I'm all for it. Fantastic Four, Incredible Hulk, lots of SM2 were not filmed here in NY and it didn't look like NY no matter how much they dressed it up and tried. The Hulk looked like Toronto. I would prefer a movie set where it's filmed, be authentic rather than try to name check NY to make the Marvel fans happy and look nothing like the city.

Don't get me wrong, I think the Punisher could be great in another city, as long as that city capture the Dark essence that the comics had. That was the problem with between Jane's Punisher and Warzone. Janes's Punisher DID capture the realism, but the captured the realism of Miami...a Happy Havana Nights Party City! Then Warzone came along and tried to looks as dark as it could, but NONE of it felt REAL! You cross that level of Darkness with that level of Realism and we will get OUR Punisher film.

From what I have heard Thomas Jane wanted to do a sequel, but only if it was done right and true to the comics. The studio was going to give him a ******** kid friendly script so he bailed. Sometime after that they decided to go the completely opposite direction and he wasn't even asked to return. That Man still echoes of The Punisher to this day and will always be my first choice. I can't even watch an episode of Hung without wondering when he is going to kill somebody.

Take Thomas Jane, drop him into any dark Noir setting, NY, Chicago, Detroit, and with the proper gritty realism you will have a blockbuster.

I think Punisher being set in NYC is as important as Spidey, Luke Cage, and Daredevil being in NYC imo

FF, Iron Man, Captain America, and the countless other heroes in the Marvel-verse that are set in NYC could have their change location and I think it would still work

But Punisher, I dont know I just feel that New York City works for him really well it's hard to explain. It would be cool for him to switch location but NYC works

The scripts weren't kid friendly, they were just **** and Punisher: War Zone was indicative of the direction the movie was heading when Jane was on aboard, so he bailed. Simple as that.

If that was the case than it sure doesn't explain what was written in his letter as well as the other reports I read around that time. Despite that, had War Zone been what was pitched to Jane, I couldn't blame him for quitting. While I may find flaw in Jane's movie, War Zone was unbearable to watch.

Lol, I think you read it wrong. He said in his letter that he watched a buttload of action flicks while his daughter slept on his lap and that he had to eventually make a mix tape of explosions and gunfire just to put her to sleep.

Nowhere did he say that the script was kid-friendly. He just thought they were **** and he didn't believe in where the film was going.

Its very possible, for some reason I thought that was what i had read but it has been a while since I read it. I also remembered some interview that came out around the same time that said the same, but again it has been a while.

In either case he was right in not returning for the piece of **** that was War Zone. If they wanted to make some money, and have a great Punisher movie, they need to get Nolan or Favreu, two Directors who have made comic movies worth watching, and stick Thomas Jane back in the mix. The controversy of his return alone would get people interested, and with the right script he would stand alone as The Punisher in everyone's mind.

Jane has shown himself to be a pretty good director. I say Marvel should give it to him.

Jane directing a Punisher film could certainly be interesting. Perhaps he'd have a hand in co-writing it as well.

wait when people say Jane has proven himself as a director are you talking about Dark Country?

A newly married couple (Thomas Jane and Lauren German) takes a honeymoon hell-ride through the Nevada desert after hitting a mysterious car crash survivor under a starlit sky. When their injured passenger suddenly turns on them, the couple instinctively fights back with lethal force, and attempts to cover up their crime from the local police. But there's no escaping fate, and with every move they make the pair only manages to wind ever deeper down a darkened path.

Also, it has a heavy Twilight Zone/Outer Limits feel. So, if you like either of those shows, you should dig Dark Country.

has anyone checked out stuff from The Town? i didnt know Jon Hamm was in it...anyway theres a scene with him and a shotgun and i cant help but think Punisher.

I'm surprised no one is talking about them possibly making a Punisher tv series...

Jon Hamm could pull The Punisher off. I've seen pictures of him compared to some MAX covers. Looks ALOT like him. I can definitely support him for Punisher.

It's mind boggling that the Punisher-probably the easiest CB character to translate to the big screen-has so many failed attempts.

I think that in CB form, he's one of a kind.In movies form...he's dime a dozen.

That said, I hope what i've heard about the character coming to the small screens is true.

I think The Punisher will work out alot better in a TV show than a movie. They can definitely flesh the character out better. I really hope we get a lot of MAX influence in the show. Especially pre-Punisher stuff. :D
