Should they make another Punisher movie?

The prospect of a Punisher TV show is intriguing. If it's on cable, I probably won't watch it. Like, if it's on TNT, FX, or USA whatever. The shows on those channels tend to be all about flashy editing, and every episode is the same damn thing, Burn Notice and Justified especially. The overall season's plot moves very slowly, while each episode is just a variation of the same thing.

Put him on HBO, though? You're gonna get a great story that plays out prominently throughout the season and is the main focus. I'd prefer to see that.

Yes, HBO and Showtime are the logical places to put a Punisher series, everybody ****ing knows that. So, people don't need to come in this thread to say what has already been said ad nauseam.

That said a Punisher series on FX or AMC would not suck.

I thought the first half of Justified was cool, until i noticed every episode had that same moment "I bet you won't be able to pull your gun and shoot me before I pull the trigger!"/"I reckon we'll find out" moment.

Same thing with Burn Notice. Sure, we find out who burned Michael Weston, but EVERY episode up to Season 3(when I stopped watching), with the exception of ONE episode per season, was just someone begging Michael Weston to help them with something, and every episode was just a rehash of the previous.

But as I've not yet watched anything on AMC, my thoughts on that are non-existent.

You better rectify that. Breaking Bad and Mad Men are great, Rubicon is a slow burn but good nonetheless, and The Walking Dead is premiering on Halloween.

Not sure how it'll work, but if they do a Punisher TV show, I doubt Jon Hamm will be cast as Frank, because he's doing Mad Men. But who knows what can happen between now and then. Regardless, i don't see Jon Hamm as Superman at all.

I agree, he's a much, much better fit for Frank Castle than Superman. I don't even think he looks like Superman, plus he just looks a little too old for Supes, IMO.

Me personally,I liked Punisher War Zone because it finally showed the true character-violent and bloody.As far a TV series,it would have to be HBO,Cinemax or AMC.Also I wish they would make another movie.

AMC would be a nice place for The Punisher. He's a good character that is best, IMO, in an episodic format. Doing him in a 90 minute film will always feel rushed. If it were in a TV episode format, we'd really get to see Frank work. We'd get to see him set people up, gather intel and do all the Punishery things we know and love. Get Micro in and you've got a damn decent show on your hands. Hell, that might even be a decent jumping off point for bringing Moon Knight or Daredevil into the Marvel television universe.

Agreed. People say Hamm is busy with Mad Men, but eventually the show will wrap so maybe when one ends he can start on the other. Either way Hamm needs to play Frank.

Hamm would be a decent Castle. Of course, with Hamm's very statuesque and strong jaw line, he looks like a lot of heroes. Either way, I would like the Punisher to continue on TV. And to be honest, I wouldn't mind if Stevenson continued the role. He was a great Punisher, its just such a shame the film he was in was less than good.

Yeah, Stevenson was awesome. He was the only reason I even enjoyed war zone. But he's playing one of the warriors three so if he were to return, TV format would be the best way. If not him Chris Meloni or maybe Paul Logan.

Jane was a decent Punisher, but I preferred Stevenson simply because it felt like Stevenson's Punisher was older and had really seen some ****. I enjoyed Jane, his Punisher brought some emotion to the character. I don't know. I enjoyed both Punisher films a lot.

I loooooved the Tom Jane one and I know very little about Punisher. I still haven't seen War Zone though.

If you do see War Zone, don't expect an amazing film. It's a super fun, violent rampage of a film, but its not the best made film. Take it for what it is

It's both hilarious and annoying at the same time, all the complaints are basically what you would expect. Jane doesn't look like Castle, Castle being depressed and drinking, Florida instead of New York, changed origin, not dark or gritty, etc... and besides the origin (and even then, read below), most of the complaints can be answered away. It's worth a read, though.

These have always been incredibly ridiculous criticisms of the film. Always. And it's always caused me to roll my eyes when someone tries to say that the '04 film would be better if Stevenson was cast in that one instead, simply because he looks like he's seen some ****.

As Tieri said, it's about a man's loss and his reaction to it. Castle is a normal looking guy, athletic in build, and handsome. Then his family is killed. And his road is a long and dark, disturbing one that takes a toll on him. This contrast is of utmost importance. Atleast to me it is. It shows that, even though Frank does what he thinks is right, it's taking a negative toll on him.

And on a superficial level, I boggles my mind that people who criticize this film fail to notice that it's an origin film. He's not gonna be sunken eyed and detached from the get-go. There's a path he has to follow first.

Obviously, people who complain about Castle being depressed and drinking haven't read anything Punisher related pre-Ennis. Has no one read Year One?

In regards to Tampa, i find their use of this locale interesting, given their budget. In John Boorman's POINT BLANK, the film, an adaptation of Richard Stark's The Hunter, takes place in L.A. The novel takes place in New York. There's a huge tonal difference between the two, but Boorman uses the skyscrapers and all the concrete to create his own world with it, a rather startling contrast to how L.A. really is. I really think Hensleigh succeeded in doing the same thing with Tampa. What with all the rain they had, he managed to create this real seedy, miserable look to it that really worked to the film's advantage.
