Should Thor (the character) be CGI in a live action movie?

Yes again, just because most of us are against the idea of wrestlers as Thor doesn't mean football players and any other sports figures could take up the mantle...
Can we altogether give up the idea of sport stars playing heroes?

How about we let the actors do the acting?

^ Can he act?

Well, I've seen him as a guest on various talk shows and he definitely is outgoing and charismatic. To my way of thinking Thor is pretty much a one-note character. All about silent masculinity and butt-whipping. If the right acting coach gets Turley I think he'd probably do well...as long as they don't try to make Thor too complex and 'new-school'.

Sorry, bud, but when you are casting a rock-jawed, 6'5" character usually the kinds of men who fit the bill come from the testosteronial world of sports. That's just the way it is.

I don't want to see another "Sabretooth" in a Marvel movie, esp. one that gets a solo movie for himself. Acting is ALWAYS crucial in a movie.

I'm not saying he can or can't act. Judging by his looks, however, someone in Hollywood needs to go find out.

As said before, what about Brad Pitt (Troy). Just seems like a strong possibility in my opinion. He can act and kinda looks like Thor.

Also as said countless times: NO WRESTLERS. NO SPORTS STARS.

You can find people who can be Thor without resulting to people who can't act their way out of a paper bag.

I'm beginning to hate all threads made about Thor. They make people act crazy..... I mean crazy than usual.

*a wet paper bag :hehe:

Also, Brad Pitt is the only guy I could ever think of for the role. I remember it Troy being better then I expected, he really looks like he could take on being our Nordic god, only thing though, he's 5'11".

But there are ways that he could be made to look taller then he is, just look at what they did in LOTR with Gandalf, seemed realistic from what I remember. Plus we are only talking about an extra half a foot, more or less, a lot of Hollywood trickery could be employed.

I'm not a fan of Brad Pitt as Thor. Not even a little bit. I'd hate to see Thor looking all manorexic. Brad Pitt could be Donald Blake though lol

Isn't Pitt pretty buff?
If anything he could definitely fit some muscle mass on himself.

I agree, Pitt could bulk up. And there's no denying: with long hair, he looks just like Thor. With it short, he looks like Blake. And Brad is great at accents and such.

No Brad. He's waaay to pretty and famous. We need a relatively unknown rugged meatball who can kick your ass with his stare alone.

He can add a decent amount of muscle but beg enough to be THOR. Have y'all seen his godly biceps? If it were that easy for somebody Brad Pitt's size to grow to HHH's, I'd like to know that secret.

Much like with Cap, I will gladly relinquish a bit of size for an awesome actor.

However, Brad Pitt doesn't qualify :o

In case you haven't noticed, most of the actors they pick to play superheroes aren't as bulky as they should be :csad:

On looks alone, I think this guy could be a perfect Thor:

his name is Johann Urb

Never seen him in any movie, so I can't tell if he can act or not.... but lookswise, he's the guy, IMO.

With all of the whining Pitt did during his bulking for Troy, I don't think anyone in H'wood is gonna ask him to do it again.
He whined like a little kid, and slept like 14 hours a day during his training.
Gotta remember, he's 44 or 45 now, will be 47 when the movie comes out...
can't imagine him being able to stay or get into shape for any sequels, he would be around 50 for the second one!
I suppose the same thing can be said of Downey, but remember, Stark only need to be able to get into the armor to do his thing. Thor is represented as a heck of a specimen of manliness and such.
As much as Marvel may be going with established actors for their movies, this may be one where they have to go with a YOUNG, relatively unknown for the role.

No CG on Thor, well lightning ok but nothing physically made cg.

Yeah, but this would be absurd. More absurd than Cudmore's Colossus. And it'd be ridiculous if they put him in the kind of suit they had Jones' Juggernaut in.

If the use the current costume design they could pad it up a bit and no one would know.

Thor threads do make people crazy.

A) Asgard is going to be all CGI-anyway, so to pretend that Thor is going to be pure from Beowulf is silly.
B) Brad Pitt would have been a kickass Thor about 10 years ago. His whining off-camera doesn't keep him from being a big bulky kickass Nordic God. I don't think personal beef should be a casting criteria. Turning 50 just might...
C) Thor is not a one-note character. Read more comics.
D) Being 5'11" does not keep you from looking 6'5" on screen. Please quit this foolishness of trying to find actors who are comic book height.

I think it's interesting how some posters feel that Thor MUST have bodybuilder-level biceps. The vast majority of comics characters have been drawn with godly biceps, I'm not sure why Thor deserves some extra special consideration on this front. Similiarly, if you want godly biceps, then you need your actor to become a body-builder... to basically spend a year training, just physically, for the part. Not sure that's effective or necessary. Pretty sure its not going to happen.

People, we need to remember movies like Troy and 300. Did they hire wrestlers to play all the parts?

No. Instead, they hired high-quality actors and had them train to get super buff. I'd say the 300 crew was buffer than the Troy crew, but both movies had actors who got RIPPED to play their parts.

Now it's true that you can't cast SMALL Hollywood actors to play Thor, but you also don't need GIANTS. Thor is just a big dude without being uper big. You want super big? Go see Juggernaut or Hulk. In the comics, those two guys always dwarf Thor in size. But Thor's power was never to be really gigantic... it's to be super strong, fly, and control weather as a god of thunder.

And if you want a GOD of thunder to come off as likeable and believable on the big screen, you need an actor who can do more than basic soap-opera-lite wrestling-level acting.
