The Dark Knight Rises Should WB bring in Frank Miller?

There's not?

The idea of a city overrun with freaks where the hero is hunted ring any bells?

Because that's basically what Nolan began setting up at the end of THE DARK KNIGHT.

What specifically? Dark Victory? People hate Robin. Death in the Family? Same and dead Ledger. Three of a kind? No way would it be a good adaptation. Hush? Again no Robin and it’s too far into Batman’s career.

how about an original story by Nolan

wow, cant believe nobody's thought of that :whatever:

People that hate Robin are usually *****e bags though.

Here are the facts, Nolan's going to be finishing Inception in 2010. There isn't a story from the comics Nolan can easily base the third film off of, meaning like some said, it would have to be completely original. It took Nolan two years to make The Dark Knight after the Prestige, but remember the story was developed long before then. If we want to see a new Bat film by 2012 or 2013, WB needs to start early preproduction (developing a story) right now. A writer with a firm understanding of Batman needs to be brought in to work with Nolan as he's starting Inception to ensure a safe release date. Miller is the first person to come to my mind.

Umm.. isn't that the whole point of david goyer or do some of you simply block his involvement out of your mind. At this point Nolan's brother and goyer could be working on the script. As much as some of you like to believe chris nolan is a one man show he's not. Frankly I wouldn't want miller anywhere near this franchise.

David Goyer is going to be pretty busy to fit Batman 3 in. Directing Magneto, writing The Flash, Scanners, The Invisible Man, Super Max, and Y: The Last Man.

No, I don't want Miller anywhere near these films.
He's become a parody of himself. Batman torturing children? The Joker with a Nazi henchwoman? A holographic President?
Miller's lost it completely.

He's not doing the flash, Magneto is probably not happening along with supermax. Besides he will make time for this film. He made time for begins.

Who says Nolan is even coming back?

As for Frank Miller, I didn't know it was 1987 again

He's already played an integral role in the development of these films. People forget that without Miller, the Nolan films would be nowhere. The third movie is going to need an original story, Miller could help create that.

Didn't Miller want to change Alfred into a black mechanic?

Miller's recent work on Batman doesn't give us any hopes for wanting him involved with the Bat-Films in any level. That is why we are so reluctant about him. Yes, he did amazing work back then, but he hasn't done anything compared to that work in these years.

alright Frank and Nolan have their own interpretations of Batman. You dont want to "cross the streams". They are both very different from each other. Now if Burton was in charge again it would work out better. But Miller has never been a realistic writer and that is what Nolan is usually going for. So it just wouldnt work.

Miller's Batman Year One is still probably the most realistic version of Batman I've read in comics. The scene with the 3 kid burglars on the fire escape is more realistic than anything seen in the Nolan films.
That said, I agree that I wouldn't want Miller working on the next Nolan batman film. I get a big kick out of All star, but it seems Miller's best days writing BM are behind him.
As for his screenplays past, Robocop 2 was alright, RC3 was awful.
There can be a big diff between someone's screenplay work and their comicbook stories in quality I think. You can never tell how it's going to turn out. I thought Sam Hamm's SP for Batman 89 was awful while I thought his 3 part story in Detective comics in 89, 'Blind Justice', was one of the best Batman stories I ever read.
Miller was at the top of his game when he went over to do Robocop and the movies paled to the first one. Imagine how bad his screenplays could turn out now that he's way past his comicbook prime.

Frank Miller, the guy who wrote and directed the spirit and is currently writing all-star batman and robin. Once again, thats why they have goyer, miller isnt necessary. I'm sure the Nolan films would be somewhere, because they drew on a lot more than year one.

Like it or not, Frank Miller has played an integral role in the creation of modern Batman. Year One and The Dark Knight Returns are considered seminal works.

Is this Frank Miller himself? Or perhaps his PR person. :cwink:
In all seriousness, of COURSE the bat-generation received a great boost with Year One and TDKR.. but that was years ago and something tells me ole Frankie's mind isn't what it used to be. Compare the dialogue within YR1 and TDKR to say.. All star Batman. Or even The Spirit (which BLEW HARD) He doesn't have it other than the 'Goddamn Batman'.

I agree with bringing Jeph Loeb on board, but the trio of the 2 Nolans and David Goyer are more than enough for a satisfying ending to the Nolanverse.

Telling you man, Loeb sucks just as bad, if not worse.

What specifically? Dark Victory?

I don't see why they couldn't just come up with a decent story that does justice to the idea of a city overrun with freaks. It could have elements of many story arcs just like BEGINS and THE DARK KNIGHT did. It's not like THE DARK KNIGHT is based on any one story arc. It's a hodgepodge of ideas from the comics.

People hate Robin. Death in the Family? Same and dead Ledger. Three of a kind? No way would it be a good adaptation. Hush? Again no Robin and it’s too far into Batman’s career.

I have one response to this. Read more comics.
