Single Issue-Must Haves

I'm not knocking you at all Phaedrus45, but are the past two issues you just recommended actually good stories, or did you say they are must-haves solely for the fact that they are the first appearance of Dark Avengers?

The Thor issue is a classic, although pretty dang expensive to get. With the Wolverine Origins issue, it's more for the fact that it's Daken's first appearance. As you can see, I'm spending this week focusing on the Dark Avengers. (And, I always consider first appearances by A and B list characters as a Must Have.)

Must Have of the Day, featuring another first appearance of a Dark Avenger, The Sentry. You can still get this comic for a decent price, under 20 bucks.

My final Dark Avengers first appearance Must Have of the Day, featuring Bullseye! Wow, I was surprised I actually have this issue. About two years ago, I got a Daredevil collection on ebay for about 100 bucks, and it included all of the Frank Miller Daredevil's and many comics before it. Luckily, most of them were in Fine condition or better!

So far, the only comic I don't have that I've mentioned is that Ares appearance in Thor. My Thor collection pretty much goes from issue #202 to present.

I love how he's using darts. I wonder of there was debate as to whether to call him Dartboard! or Dart-Man. Or Look-at-how-stupid-I-am-I-have-a-bullseye-on-my-head-just-for-the-cops-Man

This is the issue that made me a Reed Richards fan. I was a Fantastic Four fan for years before this, but i always related to Ben and Johnny.

But THIS issue...man, watching Reed fighting for his family in a no-holds-barred-one-on-one brawl with Doom practically had me cheering!

Years later, now a family man myself, i appreciate it all the more.

Doesn't this cover tell you enough about how undeniably awesome this issue is?

Must-Have of the Day, continuing the Fantastic Four theme. I bought this issue last year for 20 bucks...and, even though it's only in VG-Fine condition, it was just cool to own it:

Probably the book that made me a alpha flight fan cause only a madman or a comic book genius like Bryne could have come up with this. Snowbird and some dude flight in a blizzard and you get 20 pages of this

Must-Have of the Day, featuring the death of Guardian. I remember reading this issue when it came out, and my jaw dropped when they killed him off. I was sure within a few issues, he'd be back...how could they kill the leader of Alpha Flight in the first 12 issues of this new title??!!?? Definitely, one of the most shocking deaths I've ever read, and for me, a classic ending.

Those were my feelings exactly. And this happened after Phoenix died, so I don't know why I was so surprised. His "comeback" a few issues later was really well done, also.

And, by the way, Guardian had the red uniform, so it was bound to be him.....

Must-Have of the Day, featuring what I consider to be the real kick-off to Marvel's new love for their Cosmic roots. Before the first Annihilation event, this title came out almost two years previously. Wonderfully written, and re-introducing and re-inventing the character of Drax The Destroyer, this was a great 4-issue miniseries.

I remember getting this in the later 70's... great issue.

Later in life, you realize what a genius Steve Gerber was at the time...

Those first Man-Thing issues are dang expensive to get your hands on. I'm still missing 8 issues, not including the Giant-Size editions. (Those Giant-Size comics from the 70's are even more expensive!)

No kidding...

I finally got my hands on a complete Werewolf by Night set (including the Moon Knight appearances... which I originally bought at the time, but were lost in the shuffle of youth), including the Giant Sized ones, circa 1987, and here I am 22 years later, and I find them to be missing...

Luke and peter are in civilian clothes at the disco( it was the 70's) they even had on polyester suits. Hmmm this must be where Raimi got the idea for that god awful Saturday night fever routine in Spideman3( only it was much better in the comic). Some Arson criminal dudes set fire to the place and Luke and spidey save everybody. They then go after the dudes and the cats set fire to a tenement building. Luke and Spidey fight em and the fireman come to put out the blaze, but Some of the firemen get hurt in the process. i think it was Luke that at the end of the book says "those guys are the real heroes we just wear the funny outfits." Before 911 a real salute to the real courageous heroes of the world.

Oh, Man! I'm seriously jealous of you right now. I have been looking at those old Marvel Horror titles from the 70's, and they are all too damn pricey for me. I'm hoping when the Emerald City Comic Convention comes in April, that one of the stands will have a good deal on them. Whenever I look on ebay at them, they go for a high amount, or their condition is pretty crappy.

Must-Have of the Day, featuring the first appearance of Red Sonja. With both characters now being owned by separate companies, you won't see them teaming up much anymore. This first appearance is still pretty reasonably priced if you look around. Online, I found a Fine copy for only $12.00 today.

Lol, about 15 years before the infamous "one punch" Batman used on Guy Gardner, Swamp Thing actually used on BATMAN, in this very issue. :woot:

Excellent Berni Wrightson art.

Here's another great issue from that run:

Berni Wrightson does a full page shot of the werewolf that STILL haunts my nightmares 35 years later! :wow:
