Ohh my prediction was right on the money, booyah! And thanks, I was to lazy to jump over to BOM, I thought this place'd be moving fast to get some updates It's too bad Trek didn't have bigger numbers than Wolverine OW, it deserves it, but legs, it surely will have.

Fox may say that 68% drop is within their expectation, but personally I think they had to be disappointed because it's a pretty big decline. I just hope it will make Fox reconsider rebooting DD and F4, and think twice about more sequels for X-Men; I want those rights to return to Marvel in the near future.

Oh yea i think I remember reading that quote before. Im in the same camp in doubting Fox would shell out that huge amount of money for this. For one thing, the main draw for the studio in developing Wolverine, as opposed to a team X-men movie, was so they could save money.

I cannot believe that this costed more than $165 million to make. I wonder if that is with or without marketing.

As Young is co-president of production, I would imagine it is simply the production budget. Personally, I think Young’s statement is marketing. I don’t believe this movie cost more than The Last Stand. I think he is simply talking up the movie.



Anyway, next week should prove interesting, as there are no new movies opening that are competing for similar demographics as Star Trek did this weekend. Unfortunately, for both X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Star Trek, Terminator Salvation looms in the distance. This month is ridiculously packed. Given the rest of the summer, you would think the studios could have spaced out some of their tentpoles a little more.

Star Trek made 76 million (updated estimates) and I saw the midnight showing Ace (in IMAX ) That movie deserves all the praise, It's terrific, the best movie I've seen in theaters in 2009 so far

But like I was saying yesterday, I don't think ANY movie this year is gonna do mega money, including Transformers 2. Just don't see it happening this year. I'm thinking all these big movies will have OW around the 70-90 million mark.

Yeah, it's gonna have amazing legs too because of great word of mouth, the excitement in talking about this movie with friends reminded me of TDK when it first came out. Wolverine on the other hand was more of meh-meh it's pretty fun, nothing special etc. I'm so surprised a sequel (Wolverine 2) was greenlit after an 80 million opening. and then it drops 68% with horrible word of mouth and reviews. "Fascinating."

I respectfully disagree.

I know bad economies push people to the cinema, usually.

But this year is just completely different I feel. This recession is a whole new type of beast. I don't think people will be splashing too much cash on multiple trips to the cinemas. I don't think there will be as much repeat viewing for instance.

I told you about my experience with Sith before ain't I? That was insane, especially that opening scene on Coruscant!!

My point is...I keep hearing this talk about you being a peacemaker and being someone trying to stop arguments...and yet all Ive seen you do is attack those who think Wolverine is a crap movie. So...prove that you are unbiased and truly trying to stop the arguing.

But you cant...because you are not playing peacemaker...except that in your mind "making peace" means everyone agreeing with your biased view.

So...lets pony up with the proof, or lets not play that tired "Im playing peacemaker" card anymore.

With regards to box office, it fell 59 per cent overseas, not 68 per cent as in the USA.

Also, remember X3 fell 68 per cent or thereabouts without something like Star Trek coming along. So for Wolverine to fall 68 (or 59) per cent with Star Trek isn't too bad in the grand scheme of things.

Those of you who hate the film can go right ahead. But trying to use these box office figures to justify your hate as being a pandemic of negativity (sort of like swine flu) is futile. Are you so insecure that you need box office figures to validate your opinion?

I watched again on saturday, the theater was packed... Wolverine still #1 here in Argentina (it has way more theaters, than Star Trek)
