Everyone is not claiming that the movie is a bomb. It's a big success because of it's opening weekend...but it is having s**t legs and it's not bias to point that out.

It's s**t legs will lead to the next Wolverine movie having a decent sized drop from this one, so I hope fox doesn't up the budget.

So this has passed 300 WW now right? I forsee it finishing at around 330 million WW. Where is the person who told me I was dreaming when I said it would hit 300 million EASILY? I wanna laugh at them.

For sure it wasn't me, I was just the gut pouring scorn on a Deadpool spin-off :)

:hehe: Yea I know it wasn't you man. But a lot of people have told me I would be wrong recently, now they have been proved wrong I must round them all up and laugh at them!

But not you drmick, not you!

Meh, this movie will struggle to even get to 175 million domestic. ST will ultimately crush it domestically. Not surprising, but sad nonetheless.

You know I was so surprised how many people were saying there'd be no spin-off either way (successful or not). I remember comments along the lines of "It'll never happen, get over it" or "Maybe in a couple years time it'll get a green light" but no, as soon as the movie is released they make the announcement. I can say that yes, I am quite pleased to see Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson once more, but strrreeetttcheed out.

I enjoyed the movie a lot more than I expected to (I think I've been starting out my posts on here with that :p ) but I think one of the many faults of the movie is that it just looked very low budget. I hope they atleast up the production budget for the next one.

I think that this movie has done rather well so far. I voted 250 million +, so I was right! YAY! :D
But I have to say, if Gambit isn't in Wolverine 2, I'm not gonna pay to see it. He's the only reason I watched this movie in the first place.

You do know the poll was for "Domestic" returns right? :oldrazz:

I was actually gonna modify to ask if it was for domestic or WW. I didn't read the fine print. I thought it was for overall. :p

WO is NOT a bomb! Anybody who implies such is either a fool, kidding themselves, or just trying to antagonize those who enjoyed it. With that said, it is and will be perceived as somewhat of a disappoitment, in all respects. I equate it a lot to Superman Returns, with the exception that SR got a much warmer reception from critics. But based on box office returns and the popular consensus of the movie-going public that formed as a result, these two films are remarkably similar. Now how they each got there was by different roads traveled to be sure, but the end results will be the same. This is why people should be more cautious in their expectations for sequels and spin-offs, you could be setting yourselves up for a BIG letdown. Remember, all the talk of those follow-ups was immediately right after WO's impressive opening weekend. It's been pretty quiet on that front since it's equally significant second weekend drop, if I'm not mistaken. I'm not saying they won't get made, I just believe the game has changed, and I wouldn't be placin' all my chips on sequels/spin-offs being a sure thing anymore. Besides, don't forget that it is clear now WO will be a weaker performer than all three previous films, which is a HUGE reversal in trend for the franchise. As I pointed out earlier in this thread, it will come in behind the last two X-movies by around a whopping $150M WW, when each is adjusted for ticket price inflation. I'm just sayin'... proceed with caution.

But it was rumoured the budget for this one vastly overtook those of the first three movies, yes even X3. A bigger budget, naturally, doesn't automatically warrant a smoother or better movie, just needs better direction.

It needs better direction and less interference from Tom Rothman and his stooges. Also, some additional quality control from Marvel might not be a bad idea.

I refuse to believe this movie cost more tha X-3. I honestly cannot see how this movie cost more than...170 INCLUDING marketing and everything.

They just tried to make a blockbuster on the cheap, make a quick buck, that much is obvious. They used a smaller SFX company, which is clearly visible. There is no way in hell this movie cost more than X-3 I don't care what boxofficemojo says.

The movie may not have cost as much as The Last Stand, but it wasn't made on the cheap. X-Men Origins: Wolverine is most likely the second most expensive X-Men movie, second only to The Last Stand.

Well maybe that was the wrong way to put it. What I meant was I think they cut a lot of corners in the production of this. There is no way a movie in this day and age should have such shoddy special effects. They even cheaped out on the marketing though, did you see those god awful posters? All shoddy photoshop work.

Yes, the promotional material for the X-Men franchise began declining after X2, in my opinion. Perhaps they cheaped out on the marketing because other costs of the movie were so high... or perhaps they are just cheap.

Yea maybe.

But seriously, some of the official posters of this movie were appalling. It's like Fox went round their offices and started rounding random people up who have used photoshop before.

I don't know what the studio's attitude is towards its movies anymore, but it needs to change.

According to this http://www.boxofficemojo.com/showdowns/chart/?adjust_yr=2009&id=vs-xmen.htm , WO's production budget was $150 million and TLS's was $210M. X2 was made for $110M and X1 an incomprehensible, if laughable, $75M. Going by these figues, even when adjusting for inflation, both of the first pics would STILL have cost less than WO. Although as somebody else poited out on here, WO is supposed to be getting some sort of kickback for filming in Australia. So it and X2 would probably end up in the same vicinity, but X1 would still be trailing.

When the no-name actors signed on for the first X-Men, they signed two-picture deals. Halle Berry renegotiated for X2 but they'd still have been a low-budget cast. For example, Hugh Jackman mentioned being paid "hundreds of thousands" for the first X-Men and when Halle Berry signed for the Bond film (released during X2 filming), she was paid $4m, her highest paycheque to date. For X3, most of the cast were on new contracts and the costs would have been much, much higher. Then back to Wolverine where only Jackman would have been paid a lot. (Marvel were rumoured to be offering only $250k for supporting actors like Micky Rourke and Scarlett Johansson).

Yeah , its definately not more expensive than TLS, but, definately cost more to make than X1 and X2. I still think it will will make a healthy profit though, dvd is a factor also.

Agreed. It's like they're just annoyed by their own franchises.
