SO...... Bryan Singer has apparantly made a big budget "Chick flick" where an invulnerable superhero swans in and tries to steal a woman away from her child and a good decent man. How is that even supposed to work? How is anyone gonna be able to support a superhero who seems to want to steal a kid`s mother? Or at the very least destroy the kid`s status quo/family unit etc. What is the dvd tagline gonna be "Truth, Justice and the Adulterous way!" LOL.

Let's hope that's the case, it's a strong storyline.

Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves here, none of us have seen the film yet.

Imagine, just imagine someone you truly loved disappeared for many years, or someone left you. Okay, so you get on with your life. You meet new people, you maybe fall in love again. But you only get on with your life because there's a void that needs to be filled.

Lois has got on with her life but that doesn't mean she doesn't still have feelings that were left behind in that void. Feelings are the most human of things. We can't ignore them and sometimes we can't forgive them. They just are.

Yeah if we are made to feel for superman and/or lois then it will work but the danger is that they have a child actor who the audience really warms to. And so the audience is left feeling for the kid and looking at the superman/lois fling from his perspective ie that of a kid whose parental stability is about to collapse.

if I didnt know what movie you were talking about, I would have thought this was "Castaway" with Tom Hanks. Speaking of which, there are eery similarities between the two except that Supes didnt grow a big honkin beard while he was away and befriend a volleyball....

You don't know that. It was a long trip and that ship may have started talking back.

First, I doubt she and this new guy are married. Second, they'll probably depict them as 'having a kid together' (or at least THINKING it's their kid together), but not really being in a relationship anymore, probably having broken up by the time Supes arrives. Of course, they may later find out that it wasn't Richard's kid at all, but Superman's, which will, if nothing else, bring Supes and Lois closer together while also successfully disolving any remaining relationship between Lois and Richard.

Just my two cent theory.

its not like superman flew in and was like
yo lois ditch this non-super powered loser and lets go to bermuda
theres emotion between the characters
it appears to me that this is something thats going to divide the audience. on one side people are going to be like OMFG SUPERMANS A HOMEWRECKER ADULTERY OMFG HORRIBLE MOVIE. then there are the other who understand the characters and despite all his wonderful powers his emotions are still human, and he still loves her.

you know what would be awesome? If superman did just fly around, macking on married chicks, and then dumping them on an island somewhere and never looking back. He would be like, the most pimp superhero ever :o

I did not get this impression of SR after reading the novel, from what you are expressing here with your words.

The novel contained alot of heart & soul with the added romance.

But in no way did I get the impression Superman was after tipping over Lois's applecart or Jason's.

Chick flick - yeah the film might be, the novel was similar to something to that.

Adulterous? Homewrecker? Well if that is the way your mind sees it then that is how your mind thinks.

In no way did I ever read a line or something similar to where Superman was attempting to destroy Jason's (the kid's) status or family unit - from what you are stating.

Superman if anything just wanted to help and be there for Richard,Lois and Jason - and that He did, and they returned the favor saving his life as a matter of fact.

The book was clear that Superman knows Lois has moved forward with her life - just as many others have as well.

He really did not even want to put the suit back on tbh or go back to metropolis - He wanted to farm, nothing more.

Read the novel for yourself or better yet - Pay the money to see the Film.

Over the top comment in my humble opinoin..the film is not even out yet and I do not care how much hype and info everyone think they have why anyone would make a stupid prediction like that is just silly.

That would have been all kinds of cool.

Nope, they are very much in a relationship when he comes back.

It would be homewrecking if Superman says to Lois, 'Hey baby, ditch that bum. You know want me. Hell, I'm Superman."

While Superman/Clark is in love with Lois, he knows that he can't do anything about it.... especially since she seems so happy, successful, has a kid etc... You can be in love with someone and not be a homewrecker. What will make him even more universal in this movie is the fact that despite being an alien with god-like powers, he is human like the rest of us... and thus there is an emotional element to the movie.

Where did this chick flick come from?

I know someone said they read it in an interview, but can anyone provide the link for said interview? I just find it hard to believe a director of Singer's caliber would say something like that about a Superman movie.

Again, this sounds like more griping and complaining. The term requel is old, so now it's chick flick.

I don't get chick flick from this at all, and I'm a chick. I have read the novel, and I didn't get chick flick from that either. I am also an avid romance reader, so if it was there than I would know.

Again...Singer is not going to turn Supes into a homewrecker. They recognize the sensitive nature of the topic and it's being handled carefully.
