I don't really follow the comics, so I have no clue what is going on. I'm hearing about all this break up stuff, what is it?

And I'd like to follow it through the volumes(much more easier to follow and efficiant), so what volumes should I get? I don't want to have to go way back, but I want enough of the story for me to understand and follow.

***SPOILERS***

Basically there was a Civil War event in the Marvel Universe. This led to Peter Parker unmasking which led to Aunt May getting shot in revenge for years of being Spider-Man. Peter and MJ make a deal with the devil so that Aunt May is saved, but their marriage never existed.

Civil War, Back in Black, and One More Day are available in trades. The current continuity starts in Brand New Day volume 1. Unfortunately, ASM is in continuity hell, with NOTHING making sense and everything being unconnected to a past that happened...but didn't happen. The whole situation is due to rediculous editioral mandates set by Joe Quesada.

Oh damn that just sounds... messed to say the least. I really wasn't interested in Civil War, but I might just have to get it.

Who shot Aunt May?

I think it was Bullseye. Whoever it was, the Kingpin hired him.

It was just a flunkie hired by the Kingpin

... but to say that nothing makes sense and everything being unconnected to the past is ridiculous...

Well, isn't this funny, I just found a random issue of Back in Black that I had, haha.
