Something isnt right about this whole thing

The cynic in me suspects something is up. There is so much hype generated from this news, I wouldn't be surprised if it helps sales.

Fox did not leak X-Men Origins: Wolverine in an attempt to entrap fans or generate hype for the film. Think about it…

The studio would have no basis for its lawsuit as it would be responsible for making its own intellectual property available for download in the public domain.

The studio would face God knows what criminal charges for staging a fraudulent crime, wasting the time and resources of the FBI, MPAA, and other law enforcement officials, while obstructing the investigation by withholding information about the true nature of the leak, among other things.

The studio would open itself to legal action by every employer and employee disrupted by the investigation for things such as mental duress and monetary losses. This investigation is causing people time and money.

The studio would open itself to legal action by ISPs and their users for obtaining personal and otherwise private information via fraudulent means.

...and given our legal system, I'm sure that's just the tip of the iceberg. If this were a staged event, heads would roll.

I think it was leaked by Marvel. Did you see the cover for the April 1 issue of Deadpool? If you ask me, it looked an awful lot like Marvel was needling the climax of XOW-- and the leak occurred almost simultaneously with the release of the comic. Someone at Marvel has been naughty! :wow:

I don't think this is a publicity stunt but they do need to be careful with the accusations or they run the risk of being sued again.

i really marvel would get the rights to THIER characters back, fox is annoying me with all of this nonsense with them screwing up these movies.

Here's my theory on 2 possible suspects for this leaked movie.

1. Maybe Marvel leaked the film in the hope that it would sabotage the box office take and therefore cause FOX to give up on the whole X-MEN movie franchise so that the rights would revert back to Marvel.

2. Maybe Warner Brothers paid someone who had access to a copy of the film to leak it on the internet in retaliation for FOX suing WB over the rights of the WATCHMEN movie.

Despite Watchmen fanboy whining and rushing to bash the film, Wolverine will blow by Watchmen's domestic take in 10 days even with the leak. Mark it down and be prepared to be even more frustrated, bitter and angry.

10 days sounds about right. If crap like "Fast And Furious Whatever" can take in 72 million on an April weekend, Wolverine will be just fine.

Great point

who woulda thought Vin "Videogame" Diesel could bring in $72 Million???

This is fishy....

Anybody getting this error message when you login to your computer??

"Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfull the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Office Outlook and set it as the default mail client."

What does this mean.......... because it looks there is some pending email trying to be sent out and I don't even use Microsoft Outlook.

Just by watching the leak, there are TONS of clues pointing to the source of the leaked print. If FOX really wanted to locate it, it would be easy. My educated guess? The company that did the SFX of two scenes finished on the trailer but unfinished on the leak (Sabes chasing Cyke, the power plant crumbling).

Sooo, was the no spoilers allowed regarding the leaked footage embargo lifted? Or did I miss something?

This is not exactly a spoiler about the leaked footage. It's just a Deadpool pin-up that... uh... says something.

I disagree. They would only have the footage they needed to work on, not the entire movie. Each person would only get a scene or two, at most. Why would they get the entire movie if not every scene of the movie had FX in it? That's stupid even for Fox.

In that stage of post, the only people who would have access to the entire workprint would have been the editor, the director, test screening distributors, and any execs who requested to see it. My money's on the latter two possibilities.

That's not from the leak. It's a comic cover. Make of it what you will.
(just don't post spoilers from the leak)

I was reading a discussion on another forum, and someone there apparently did some post production work on Wolverine - they said they never got the entire film. Just the scenes they needed to work on.

plus more CGI companys work for for this movie.

:funny: I don't envy you mods in these gray areas...

Yeah, I figured. :yay: My sound mixing friend gets to SEE entire movies while working on them, but I got the sense (I could be wrong) that they used projections. He's also really good at keeping secrets, as expected - they finished the post for the last Sopranos episode a full 3 months before airing and he didn't tell a soul about it. :funny:

Yeah, this hasn't been a fun week. I don't like being the mean mod.

I hope they catch the guy who leaked the movie - after Hugh is done kicking the crap out of him, I want my turn.

I had a friend who worked on some banner ads for FF4, and I remember Fox was really stingy about getting him clips of the film to use in the ads. I don't remember the specifics, but I do remember they were a real pain about it.

I agree with this. That's what I mean about it needed a longer runtime, to flesh things out more, give it some more depth and emotion.

Sorry, I wasn't avoiding your post, I just forgot about this thread.

Secondary characters:
-Pretty obvious - characters like Colossus, Kitty Pryde, Callisto, Quill, Arclight, Multiple Man - they don't need to have development. They are there because their powers will becomes useful over some point in the story.

-Sure, the movie could have been longer to allow for more development.

I agree. I mean, it's one thing to have a cam bootleg of a movie floating around, or even a DVD-quality Academy screener, but it's quite another to have it leaked so early in post by someone on the inside. That breaks all of the trust that these companies have with their employees or anyone associated with moviemaking, and it's unfair to the filmmakers because their work is shown in an unfair light. If they had wanted to show unfinished footage, I'd rather have it in an official form (DVD bonus feature, etc) since then you'd know that someone signed off on it.

If this was a Chris Nolan movie, he would have blown a gasket. That man does not like showing unfinished footage.

It's not quite as bad as violating HIPAA laws, but it's the same idea.
