Homecoming Sony E-mails on wikileaks

I think that WHATEVER leverage Sony could ever have with Spider-Man, after these Sony leaks they shouldn't have anymore.

Sony, you don't know NOTHING about making movies in this genre. I'm sorry for the bluntness, but it's true. You guys suck at making comic book movies. Period. Let the professionals handle it, and if you have any hopes of doing it right, HIRE A TEAM TO DO THAT and please Amy Pascal, stay OUT of the creative decisions.

Did you all noticed what I did? TOM ROTHMAN was the guy suggesting these actors. TOM ROTHMAN, from the same mastermind behind Wolverine: Origins. Jesus Christ, may the force be with Kevin Feige and Spider-Man.

ALSO: Make sure to watch #MeetTheMoviePress tomorrow:

Hot COMIC BOOK MOVIE news is coming at ya at 9am tomorrow on #MeetTheMoviePress. Watch it LIVE or be late to the party...

It might be Spider-Man related, here comes a new challenger, perhaps...?

There is nothing wrong with the names Tom Rothman suggested. Most of those guys are probably the best choices to play Peter Parker right now.

But the steaks are so high since the Sam rami days and I wonder if this is still the way things are done with these kind if movies?

Agree.

I know the press liked the footage but as I thought, they were kind of in a note taking mode. I also find the international audiences to be reserved.

I think what will really help is when the characters have musical themes that define them. I think about the fact that I don't know what cue is uniquely Spidey's. we had that on the first 3 movies, Dark Knight has it, I don't think Avengers really does but we have this cool super group. I have an idea around a music driven footage event.

Let me bake it with Lia and Andre.

CA2

A little more context:

- Screened it for WM on 1/31

- Everyone loved it – some thought it was better than Avengers; some thought it was a great follow-up (not sequel) or next movie to bridge the gap til the next Avengers

- They were definitely more excited about CA after seeing the screening

- Tonite it screens at Toyfair

A sidenote – not competitive to ASM2 theatrical but just a comment on how Marvel works with WM:

- Marvel started showing WM pieces of Guardians of the Galaxy early – last month. WM wasn’t super excited after seeing the initial content so Marvel has continued to show them more and more. Now, WM is totally fired up about Guardians and has gotten Hasbro pumped up about the toy line. Marvel completely turned them around.

Let me know if you have any other questions. lex

FW: FW:
We possibly should consider 5-8th. It is the 2nd weekend of Avengers which will probably be worth about 100mil BUT if we stay on our date, Avengers holds at 50+ Pitch Perfect opens to 40-45 Let say Mad Max opens to 40-45 that adds up to 130 to 140. We need close to 50 to meet our goals . That weekend is only worth about 170 mil. The weekend of 5-8 is worth about 180mil.

Will be hard to move Cameron's movie again after such a short period. And what about monster trucks? Same audience isn't it?

I don't know if we should be holding the movie til 2016. We've got to do right by the movie but I think we need it next year.

If we would consider moving Pixels back to 2016. The best options would be 4-1 or 4-8 the sexier date would be 5-20-16 2weeks after Captain America and Batman Superman( one has to move?!) 5-20 would be a week before Alice in Wonderland and X-Men but we would get Memorial day weekend which certainly is one of the biggest movie going weekends of the year.

Hopefully in short time sony does sell off spidey or at least that one half of film studio.

Talion seems ignorant of the context in which those names were mentioned by him. From the timeline of the emails, it seems like those names were mentioned while they were working out a deal, which means they could very well have been talked about for MCU Spidey.

my favorite part in all of this is sony (of all studios) constantly making fun of WB and how they don't know what they're doing for their DC characters, and all these months later.... oh how the tables have turned.

Best thread I read in a long time.

God what a joke Sony is.

Hey guys, is there anything about the purported alternate goblin fight in there? Ya know, the one where Spidey was about to beat Harry to death.

On a side note: Gawd!!!

I like how the beginning is pretty much "How do I even use reading app." I don't understand why one feels it necessary to track down every single Civil War tie in to understand Spider-Man's role in the story. Just read the Spider-Man tie in issues and the main book. The rest is fluff for their purposes.

Rothman and Pascal

the answer is: YES THEY DO NEED IT, AND I AM TELLING YOU THEY WILL MAKE THE DEAL-- not right away maybe, but if they BELIEVE you will never give them the other thing, then they will make the deal for spidy in capt. why wouldn't they???? trade spidy in capt for hulk/widow/thor/or capt in spidy. ****ing STICK. they will fold.

Agreed. Rothman is literally our "Man in the Shadows" here, I sincerely hope that Kevin Feige won't let his bad influence getting anywhere near this project.

I've found some very poignant piece of evidence how good Jeff Sneider is at this game.

Take a look at this:

As I did with brooks barnes, I denied we are in any negotiations with Marvel about licensing Spider-Man back to them. He is NOT writing anything right now.

Hi Jean and Charlie, just wanted you to be aware of this email I sent to Elzer in April 2013, which he subsequently denied. I'm still hearing these now well-publicized rumors that Sony will let Marvel borrow Spider-Man... but for Captain America: Civil War rather than Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Kevin Feige addressed the speculation today at the Marvel event and said it was just a rumor.
I'm told Sony definitely plans to license out the Spider-Man character for Marvel's use in exchange for use of a similar major character, or at the very least, trailer placement for Sony movies in front of Marvel movies...
Does Sony have any comment about the possibility that Spider-Man could appear in a future Marvel movie, or does the studio have no plans to license out the character?

Hey Steve, so I spoke to a well-placed Marvel source this morning and I'm told that Sony has signed a deal to license use of the Spider-Man character to Disney/Marvel for use in "The Avengers 2." Furthermore, I have a source who previously witnessed Andrew Garfield leaving Marvel with a stack of "Avengers" comic books under his arm.
I'm told that Fox has also agreed to license characters from its X-Men universe, as well as the Silver Surfer from Fantastic Four, for use in The Avengers 2, so this would be part of a larger story.
Please let me know if you can confirm. Appreciate any guidance you can offer on this one.
Best,Jeff

Yeah, he seems to just be relaying rumors he has heard, one of which happens to be of spiderman. And Andrew Garfeild...
Wonder if those other rumors were possibly true too. Not that they would happen, but that Marvel was discussing or working on them. Jeff knew as much about XMen getting leased as he did spidey!
Maybe it means Marvel is actually considering it... I doubt it it: Inhumans.

2. if we have spiderman in cap 3. what is our fee
and our back end. need script approval, casting approval of sm and aunt may and consultation of
mays house in queens and any other spiderman locations we may need in future movies. also approval of new spiderman costume> how long is he is the movie? how closely does it follow the civil war story line? does the world find out who spiderman is? are there any other characters from the spiderman universe they are using? can we use one of the marvel characters in our future spiderman movies not produced by marvel.can we use cap to set up ss? can drew work with the russos to get this done? are we renting him out?

3. current state of spiderman merchandise...where were they in 2007, 2011, 2012 and
2013, 2014....we need a base to measure this by?
will it increase the value of not just spiderman but the other characters as well. can we put a value on this? what is the cap america merch? avengers? iron man?

4. how can we put a box office value on allowing spiderman to be in cap? what is the good publicity worth to them and their movie and what is the opposite worth to us? can we put a box office value on putting spidey in their movie? not free.

5. how do we participate n the process. read the script. meet the russos. early cuts of the movie
various approvals

one time spiderman movie:
have to commit to a release date in 2017 which means we need to be shooting in winter 2015-2016

we finance the movie entirely and approve budget
we retain casting script director and budget approvals

marvel isnthe producer of the movie only and disney gets the merchandising and they help us like they did but even more so

we market and distribute the movie.....they have no approval of the marketing budget.

they have consultation in marketing materials because they are really good bu they dont have a tie breaker

would we have to dismantle ss?

can drew goddard write the sm original?

who would direct the sm movie?

what do we do with matt tolmach and avi?

they can not put spidey in future spiderman movies or team ups.

we need to keep animation rights for a theatrical relaesse spiderman move to be directed by lord and miller

we need to be able to make spiderman movies after this movie

we need to be able to make the girl team up movie

is it possible to put spidey in worlds without other characcters once we is with iron man and cap

can we have him in cap and then 6 months later in ss

comingle everything

we have a right to co finance any movie that spiderman is in and get a production credit

we get to make future movies with our characters and theirs in a collorative way but we dont need their approval

marvel produces a bunch of spiderman movies for sony the way they do for disney....all spiderman dominent movie are financed snd marketed by us event though disney will have the mrech on eerything

we can put the marvel and even disney logo on ours if we can put sony on theirs

morale and publicity

persception

xmen and fantastic four

Pardon if I'm out the loop, but was that info out before? It seems clear to me that Phil Lord and Chris Miller were INDEED contenders for the Spider-Man director(s) chair(s). Did that fell off? If it did, why aren't they attached to direct Flash but only write? Do you think they writing the Flash means that they are off the race for Spider-Man? Am I missing something here?

Nah man, look at the dates. It's one month away from the date that the live action Spidey film actually landed in 2017. This is from November, 2014, when the deal was in the verge of been done.

Then there's this, that for all that is sacred, I don't know HOW all of us here have missed up to this point:

As for those Spider-Man directing rumors, Lord and Miller play coy but hint that anything that was possible before the hack is still potentially on the table.

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articl...he-lego-movie-directors-stole-the-oscars.html

I know that Latino-Review said that Drew Goddard is the guy directing Spider-Man, but what if that's not what is actually happening? Why Lord/Miller didn't sign to direct the Flash? All I'm saying is pretty much what Lord/Miller said about this, "anything that was possible before the hack is still potentially on the table".
