Just having a thought here. This 4 spider-man movie interests me...

Has the Spider-man franchise become an exact replica of Superman's in the 80's.

- Hugely successful first movie - both critically and commercially. A true triumph.

- Hugely successful second movie. Some may have their problems with them (less so spider-man 2) but they both built upon a great franchise.

- Movie number 3 - A disappointment in alot of ways.

- Spinoffs (Supergirl, possibly Venom)

Let's just hope Spider-man's newest adventure doesn't become Spider-man 4: The Quest for Peace

Do the public want another Spider-man movie and could they get excited about it?

Yes, for the most part, I do think the public wants another Spiderman movie. However, I don't think they are going to be lining up around the corner, camping out to see the 4th installment. They will go in a little more skepticle than before. More aware of the possible downside of the franchise... especially, with other franchise ushering in a more modern, mature approach to telling classic comic stories. The bar has been risen.

So in essence, yes the public will come see, because it's Spiderman; but I wouldn't expect Spider-Man 2 BO numbers, yet alone Spider-Man numbers. I think we will see a continue slide slightly downward.

I think SM4 will still make close to 300 mill regardless... would not be shocked if SM5 bombs out right though... expecially if it is as bad as SM3. Plus the fact that it might be back to back... which never does well financially.

what usually happens is that the 1st 1 does better than expected, and sometimes even break records, while the 2nd of the 2 does worse. like what happened w/ the matrix 2 & 3, and PotC 2 & 3 (even though the 3rd pirate movie did fairly well)

Did anyone else hear about Sam Raimi liking Morbius possibly for the fourth film????

MORBIUS!!!!!!!???????????????????????????????????? After screwing Venom over and giving us a dancing Peter Parker he's thinking about Morbius!????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Yes Raimi has talked about Morbius, but don't worry.
Morbius has 0 chance of appearing in Spiderman 4.

Oh Christ...:whatever:

I usually agree with you most of the time, but freakin calm down. Despite the fact that I like the character and would be interested in seeing in a future movie, he has very little chance of appearing in SM4.

Fixed.

I have no doubt. The disappointment in SM3 is largely in the comic book fan base, imo. I doubt the average film goer really cared that Venom wasnt in the movie much. Besides, SM4 has attracted some major writing talent. It wont be written by the cast, a la SM3 and Superman 4.

Ah, touche.

Yeah, I suppose your right. To be quite honest 'Spider-man 3' satisfied me enough and as I recall, the audience I viewed it with was pretty enthusiastic during the screening. However... the franchise has to burn-out sometime, and I wonder if this onslaught of no.4 and no.5 will be it's downfall?

Exactly.:word:

Yup, the people you didn't like it were comic book fans mainly. BUt you think that's gonna stop the GA from seeing freaking Spider-Man on the big screen again? They'll see it, they don't care like we do.

I'd bet SM3 hasn't ruined it's chances with comic fans either.

They're still going to see it to see if it is an improvement on SM3. That's the wonderful thing about comic books, they have plenty of villians to use, most of which are fan favourites.

the grizzly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????????????????? Lol

The hell you'd get the grizzly from?

Haha....I think it was a joke. I'd be cool with Morbius being the villain. And if I remember correctly when Morbius appeared Spidey got 6 arms and was also dealing with the Lizard. I could see that happening if they really are making 4 and 5 at the same time.

But for the record I HATE it when they shoot two movies back to back. Unless it's like LotR or something. Unless they do it like Donner did for Superman one and two...But honestly I think the time to do that was with Spider-Man 3 and 4 and make 4 about Venom. Oh wellz.

Raimi is good with horror...so Morbius kind of sounds right up his alley. In fact I'd be cool with Morbius being the only villain of a Spider-Man movie, he has enough history.

I dont know about that, but I do think that theyve confused peter parker with clark kent in each of the movies. He's a quiet pushover

Everyone's thinking about how they think about it, not the GA. They don't give a ***** about this stuff like we do. They don't know what's tru to the comic and what's not. All they want to do is watch an enjoyable film. Sometimes God bless them for the no nit picking like we do.

Okay;
Spider-Man 1 was not well-received by a great many critics, first of all.
Spider-Man 2 didn't face the myriad of problems (such as the director getting fired & a major actor bailing mid-production) that Superman II did.
Spider-Man 3 may have been widely lambasted by fans & met with lukewarm reception by critics, but I wouldn't compare it to Superman III by any stretch of the imagination. Spider-Man 3's problems-what caused so much hate among the fans anyway-stemmed from pressure to wrap up the franchise. Superman III came across as though nobody involved in the production cared.
I won't speak on Venom b/c I'm holding out hope that the studio will come to their senses & 86 the whole concept. There isn't much you can build on from this.

And Supergirl was just an abomination.
Now as for whether or not the public can get excited for a 4th, sure. Nobody is stupid enough to follow the path of the last two Superman films with made-up villains & ridiculously cheesy plots. Give them a reason to get excited & they will come. Consider this, for all the naysaying & bashing "Spider-Man 3" received, it still managed to pull down almost $900 mil worldwide-significantly more than the long-awaited "Superman Returns", which pulled down less than half that. Fans get excited for Spider-Man.

It just needs good marketing.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

they need to show enough to get you pumped
without showing the entire movie in trailers/tvspots

Exactly.

I just want a teaser and a theatrical trailer. No new footage released every damn month. I pretty much knew the whole film going in.

so is it true that Tobey signed on the dotted line for $50 million for two more films?

dang!!!

I think he should have pared it down and gone for more money on the back end, might leave more money for special FX for the initial budget..

‘Spider-Man 4’ To Begin Shooting In 2010, Says J.K

The fourth film in the blockbuster “Spider-Man” franchise will begin shooting in 2010, actor J.K. Simmons told MTV News at Sundance, revealing that he’ll continue in the role of Daily Bugle publisher J. Jonah Jameson. “I saw Sam [Raimi] at his Christmas party.”

The news appears to confirm earlier reports that Sony was looking towards a May 2011 release.

Both Sam Raimi and Tobey Mcguire are expected to return, but have yet to formally commit. Kirsten Dunst is also up in the air, although the actress has voiced her willingness to continue as Peter Parker’s love interest.

Given the blowhard, fast-talking nature of his character, you’d think Simmons would be lobbying for more screen time, but according to the actor, the status quo is fine with him.

“We’ve definitely brainstormed ideas for Triple-J, but I have no desire to make Triple-J more of the focus of those movies,” he said. “The amount that I did in 1, 2 and 3, is just exactly right. Like be the wolf. Come in, blow in, do a week, blow out, be the comic relief, and hit the road. And let Tobey and everybody else do the heavy lifting.”

So, what do you guys think?
I'm glad J.K is looking forward to it, and of course he'll be back.
The 2010 filming was predicted. It seems that we'll be getting it in 2011, indeed.
