Sequels Spidey in Detroit?

In this economy...the people of Detroit could use the extra cash.

The Oakland Press says that director Sam Raimi may be coming back to his home state, Michigan, to shoot scenes for Spider-Man 4. Here are excerpts from the article:

Raimi is slated to begin production on "Spider-Man 4" in 2010, in fact and, he said, envisions shooting some of that movie in Michigan.

"I'll be looking at Michigan for our second-unit photography on the new 'Spider-Man' film," he confirmed.

The extensive infrastructure needed to crank out megabudget productions like the three "Spider-Man" movies he already has made has, for the most part, kept him in Hollywood, Raimi pointed out.

"Producers are always looking at the bottom line, and if they can get the same looking stuff somewhere else cheaper, they're going to shoot there," Raimi said.

Such was the case with "Spider-Man 3."

"It was cheaper to shoot in Ohio because the streets we were shooting on had storefronts that looked a little bit more like New York than Detroit did," Raimi explained. "But if the incentives Michigan has now had been in place, we would have had the money to adapt a set in Detroit."

Spider-Man 4 is expected to hit theaters in May of 2011.

At the risk of looking slow, does this mean that Sam IS infact directing this? Sorry but I only remember him being a bit coy with the whole thing claiming he'd love to direct but would be happy to just produce!

It was confirmed a while back that he and Tobey Maguire are coming back for Spider-Man 4 and 5 (to be filmed back-to-back). They're also giving Tobey some vacation time now and then during filming so he can spend time with his daughter Ruby Sweetheart.

See I remember hearing about Tobey but I dont remember Sam being confirmed as director. Either way this is good news to me!

IMO, one of the major studios could buy out one of these factories, (say the old Stroh's brewery near downtown) and build a new production studio campus..
already, a nearby suburb is luring a major studio..

There are a total of 3 deals on the table for studio's to come to my hometown. In fact, they already closed on an $85 Million dollar studio in Pontiac, MI.

This will be full circle for me - I was an extra in the first Spider-man film being in the World Unity Festival scene, and now I can be a part of Spidey 4. Good stuff.
