Ok, villain and story debates aside, I've been pondering this...

With Iron Man and Hulk 2008 under their belt, Marvel has now branched off and become its own studio, in effect, and just goes to Paramount or Sony/Columbia or whoever for distribution. So, how does this affect SM4? Is Sony still tied to Spidey because of the first films, or was that a 3 picture deal and now 4 is under Marvel's total control? If it's the latter, SM4 has a better chance of being what it SHOULD be, rather than the calculated, focus group, marketing poll driven committee project that was SM3.

Anyone know or have any hints as to what level of involvement Sony will have with SM4?

Sony still has the rights to Spider-man. I dunno the exact details ( i'm sure some other hypster can explain things better) but either they renewed the rights or they have the old agreement with Marvel which basically means that in order to keep the rights Sony would have to keep making Spider-man movies within a particular timeframe.

I believe Fox has a similar agreement with MArvel. Hence why they're going for all their half-assed attempts like rebooting Fantastic Four. They want to keep the rights ( and therefore the $$$) to these movies

Sony's been saying for a long while that they want 6 Spidey movies.

IESB reported that Sony renewed their rights to Spider-Man last year, so Sony has all the time they need to produce two more pics after SM-4.

they want 50 :woot:

maybe 6 with Raimi and Tobey?

Well, maybe Sam, but Tobey might be about 40 by the time Spidey 6 rolled around. Not necessarily a bad thing, but Hollywood usually frowns on such things.

Bale's going to be 38 by the time Batman 3 comes out, Downey Jr. is 44, Ed Norton is 40 etc.

So long as Tobey isn't out of shape, I don't think there'd be a problem.

Hugh Jackman is 40 (planning on doing more Wolverine)

Michael Keaton was late 30's/ 40 when he was doing his Batman

the list could go on and on...

Tobey is only 33... as long as he stays in shape and keeps his baby face - I really wouldn't panic!

I can't help thinking that he was way out of shape in SM3! People can say what they want, but are they forgetting the technology we own today? Anything can be edited with the help of CGI and all the realism is gone! I love the FAKE action scenes we get today, but it's disturbing when someone looks fat and when he puts his costume on he's suddenly becoming muscular and has the body of an athlet!

Tobey should look like he did on SM1! Nuff said. So get your ass to the Gym and start working!

Those characters are all clearly older than Spider-Man is supposed to be. Marvel is so obsessed over Spider-Man's appearing youthful they had him make a pact with Satan to make him swinging bachelor again.

Tobey was not in shape in the second movie and not in the third movie

^Yeah, in SM2, he was starting lose all the toned muscles. LOL...I don't get it, though! If I had ripped/toned body like that, I would work hard to keep it that way!

He had a problem with Seabiscuit. A problem in his back because of all the horse riding I think.

I do think Sony should put a cap on how big the budget for SM-4 should be -- somewhere around $150 - 200 million -- and no more. More than that and they risk compromising the profit margins.

I would say Raimi should end his involvement after six . they could reboot in a few years with new crew, etc. That would keep everyone happy.

Maguire has a babyface but he does need to keep up with his physique to maintain it.

By the numbers SM3 spit out, the budget will probably be around the 200M mark.

In terms of involvement, All that really means is that Raimi has the executive producer's off his back. I think this will be both Sony and Marvel's side.

I think part of the problem with SM3 was Arad's involvement, he was pretty gun hoe about Venom and "raising the stakes" in all the extras on the DVD.

I think the elements that are helping Marvel studios are the fact that the comic book writers themselves are having more of a say in how a movie's story should play out. Maybe Raimi should be in closer contact with the writers instead of the execs.

Tobey is a vegan... I doubt he will be able to really pack it in those key areas in that short time frame these actors have to get into shape for a role. Not that he needs to. But he has to do something. Getting rid of the double chin would be a start. Plus the wrinkles are starting to creep up but the makeup can probably take care of that. I do think 40 is too old for Peter Parker... but if Parker is meant to be a 32 year old in the script then they may be able to pull it off. The guy HAS to get into better shape though.

Being Vegan is not an excuse. I know vegan body builders. Given the time and schedule, he can do it in as much, if not better time then someone on a regular diet.

They are paid to provide an image, he should get into shape... truthfully, its not his fault; the studio or the director should be the one tell him to do this.

I'm sure its one of those things that because its not in the contract he's not obliged to it.. and because it hasnt been, I'm sure it would cost more to make him.

I'm also sure there's some negative opinions about such things in hollywood as many actors in the past have developed eating disorders etc because of demanding directors/studios.

Being in shape is different as it is also benefiting the actor that has to do it.

I'm sure the studio had a hard time being insured for Bale to be in the machinist.... I mean, he could have killed himself going down to such a weight.

I guess what I'm outlining is how this is not such an easy request but There are definitely strong arguments to say that Tobey should get in better shape.

I like the idea of Parker becoming a teacher so 32 works for me .

Me too^^
And I've said that before. He really should be a teacher. Show how he has grown.

I really wish Marvel would make a deal with Fox & Sony like they did with Universal to have creative control over their franchises while Fox/Sony distributes. Better for everyone, the fans get good movies & the studios get more money because people will actually want to see the movies.

lol

Interesting 32 year Peter parker, but in a way Tobey doesn't even look 32.

I don't know about that. This isn't 2002 anymore. Have you seen his pictures recently? As long as he can keep the weight/belly off I think it can be done, but he wasn't in shape these past few films that's the bottom line.
