Neal McDonough would make an awesome Jim Corrigan / Spectre

This is the kind of moral ambiguity I was talking about, with The Spectre torn between vengeance and redemption. A Spectre flick would have a really original narrative, going from grotesque poetic justice meted out on murderers to an exploration of man's capacity for evil, reflected in Jim Corrgian's own struggle to accept his role as judge, jury and executioner. If they made a number of films the story would have to end with Corrigan forgiving himself and his father (everyone go read the Ostrander run seriously!), finding mercy, grace and relinquishing The Spectre mantle.

Exactly.

You really get the whole metaphysical nature of the character. A film should certainly deal with Corrigan's abuse of power when he was alive, with the arc detailing his redemption and achieving a certain level of grace. It'd be epic and darkly poetic. I could definitely see Caviezel as Corrigan. But this being Hollywood they'd probably sanitise all the more noir and philosophical elements of the character (not to mention his melting a killer's flesh like a candle!) Clive Barker was born to write this film, all his novels deal with similar themes of vengeance, atonement and metaphysical horror.

I don't know if it was ever part of Corrigan's lore as I mentioned it. I know that he hated God, expressed it and was punished for it as well as choosing to come back after he died, but I don't recall a version of Corrigan who was punished for believing he should be the one to mete out punishment.

In my version, he does just this, he goes beyond the basic human right to use power in order to fight for survival or protect others, and decides to punish evil, and God basically says "You see where it got you? Now let's see how badly you really want to be the avenging angel" It costs him. Dearly. The cast was Corrigan, Clarice Winston, Nathan Waylon, quasi-mentor Dr. Kent Nelson, and various gangland personalities. And of course The Wrath.

Sounds like you'd have it rated R.

Of course.

Oh yeah. Neal McDonough's definitely got the look to make it work.

And here's the answer to your question 3dman:

There's nothing wrong with wanting to put a thread in its proper forum! But that's not what I was angry about, initially, was it?!!:oldrazz:

Depends. Can I write it? :)

Hey, I like the way you write, if you think you can pull off a big movie like this. You can start the petition if you'd like. Be my guest. I will be the first to sign.

I found this on some site. Guard, is this your handiwork?

Nope. That's a manip of Quaid as Green Lantern. But not mine.

It's great though. When I saw it I was immediately reminded of your casting choice. Spot on.

i've been thinking that Jim Caviezel can be a good Spectre. there's a haunting quality about Caviezel that i think is important in anyone who will play The Spirit of Vengeance.

I can see him as Jim Corrigan (with or without goatee). Caviezel is such a kick @ss actor. Quaid or McDonough for Hal Jordan. Although Quaid is getting too old.

One of my favourite characters in comics, one od DC's finest. Go for the original sort of incarnation, make it a drama/horror.

If you're looking to go younger, Jim Caviezel would have what it takes.

:)

From Spirit of Forgiveness to Spirit of Vengeance.

Yeah, I love that guy. I believe him and Quaid were both in Frequency. A movie, that I absolutely love.

I want a Specter movie....i want it very Badly......But I want it to be a more modern one.....

Ie....Crispus Allen.....

Start it off with him being a cop....hopefully in Gotham....basically set him up...and his family and stuff....and his killing..... then him becoming the Specter. Have it be about him wanting to use his powers to avenge his own death but at the same time the Specter is trying to teach him a lesson type of thing....and of course have it end with him having the to make the decision to punish his own son for crimes...thus proving he has severed his ties from humanity and fully become the Specter.

So basically....a translation of the Specter 3 issue mini Sereies that followed the end of gotham Central.

As for who plays him? I dunno....I really like the idea of Neil mcDonough......I guess neil could still play the Specter with DB Woodside of someone playing Crispus Allen.

I really like this character and I think it can be done well. It has all the mixings of a good Hollywood flick... but what priority does it have at DC?

If I had it my way, the film would be in production right now, before any crappy superhero movies come out and destroy the superhero hype that has been so popular lately.

Yes, because The Spectre can't exist without KINGDOM COME or SWAMP THING...

well he's played the son of God, so God's Vengeance wouldn't be that big of a stretch.

What about Mel Gibson for Jim Corrigan?

While I think a character like the Spectre lends itself better to a TV series type deal, a movie with a big budget might be cool.

Every movie I have seen with Jim Caviezel, has been great. I am confident he'd rock as the Spectre if he did get the role. I really wish it happens and he's the main character.

So I've dusted off my old partial draft of THE SPECTRE. It felt thin for a while...the lack of a villain, even with Corrigan dealing with his own demons, made for a somewhat flat, albeit eerie, storyline. I toyed with Azmodus for a while, with a storyline that dealt with a former Spectre having tricked James Corrigan into assuming the mantle, but I've moved away from that, and made it more worldly, and otherworldly at the same time. I was looking for a way to make it more interesting...and I think I have found a way to do so with the inclusion of two additional characters/mentors. A fellow named Blood, and a plucky lad named Nelson (Could spinoffs be far behind? :)). I'm also going back to the main villains, and giving them a bit more relevance, both to the themes of the story, and as human beings.
