I loved everything about the movie (except Spritle and Chim-Chim :cmad). I enjoyed this more than Iron Man! I'm so sad this didn't do as well as it seems like it should've. I was one of two people in that theater today. Although, a grandfather and grandson walked in at the last hour or so of the film (what's the point of coming so late? Why bother?). I might go see it again just to support the film. Did it for TMNT, I'll do it for Speed Racer. And isn't it funny that I'm taking drivers' ed right now?

Now theres a thought,... go see it again.

Of course I'm doing it more for selfish reasons since it will be a long wait for me for DVD,....

I really loved this film, been a long time since i've found a film so entertaining as this one. Was a great week for me as i got to see Iron Man and Speed Racer within a space of a few days.

I havent heard any of the negative reviews but then again i dont pay much attention to them, but for me this film was an easy 8/10!!

I dont expect a sequel, not due to box office numbers or anything, just saw it as a stand alone movie really. But they can easily take the characters elsewhere.

my roommate is eptoleptic(sp?) and we were wondering how bad the flashing lights are.

The failing of this movie saddens me a little cuz I actually thought the colorful cartoon look was an interesting style and I remember watching SR as a kid - well, I´d watch anything with a cool car in it, I actually watched a cartoon about a teenager who turned into a car! - but make a movie for kids that lasts over two hours, with such a thin premise? The Wachovskis lost it.

I liked the movie. But it should've been a half hour shorter and with less spritle. Other than that i really enjoyed the visuals.

heh, i uploaded that video along with more. TT was one of my favorite cartoons in the fall of 84. I would LOVE to have it on dvd there was only like 12-14 episodes. if shows like captain N the game master can be on DVD why no love for TT?

I like the Racer X shoes more for some reason but Mach 5 are pretty cool too. It be easier to just get both. :woot:

the thing is, both the shoes are awesome, but the racer X shoes look like normal shoes. so not much of a fashion statement. mach 5 are more bold. so i guess, if you want a subtle way of saying you are a fan, racer is cool, but i figure if i'm gonna spend $90 on shoes, might as well make everyone else recognize. even though if there were no relation to the film, i would propably pick the racer X shoes also.

i loved this movie, enjoyed it more than IM actually. I never expected brillian story or acting, just average stuff with crazy races and i actually got a good story. The last race was really great, its a shame that this wont get a sequel, i'd love to see more of Racer X and Speed.

From what I have heard from here, and other sources. This is a franchise that never was,no one's interested. Not only in America, but Europe also. The concept was just not interesting,I find it odd. Since it was advertised heavily in America, from what I am told.

I'm starting to think Hancock will be the next failure, simply because superhero movies can be very..sentimental to some. If someone else tries to get into that circle, people can get offended.

Speed Racer did not fail because it's concept was not interesting. It failed because the film itself did not interesting the majority of people. It was not appealing, and did not have enough flare to attract people. The attention that it gathered from the marketing turned people away instead of bringing them in. Even the so called "revolutionary" CGI that was used turned people away. Had the movie had a much different tone/atmosphere, and a better marketing strategy, it would have pulled in more than an outright horrible 18.5 million on opening weekend.

I think Speed Racer was just released at a very bad time. I could imagine kids wanting to seed this movie but parents wanting to see Iron Man, Prince Caspian etc. Speed Racer would have been the perfect end of the summer movie. Summer is just to crowded

EDIT:

I must have been high to support what I typed here. :o

Speed Racer was a film ahead of its time.

Speed Racer should have been released in April or August. Judging by it's opening weekend and losing to What Happens in Vegas (despite opening in hundreds of more theaters), we know that no matter what date, it would not have made huge record breaking numbers (maybe a 35 million opening weekend at most). However, it would have made alot more and had better legs, and being sandwiched between Iron Man, Prince Caspian, and the other new (albeit smaller) movies that still took money away surely didn't help. Had it been released in April or August, it probably would have made more in the domestic box office. I don't think it would have been much of a change in the international box office, though.

I love people that keep trying to make excuses for Speed Racer failing so bad, time of release, marketing, high gas prices, maybe people just weren't interested. We've had three out of the four big budget movies open big in May (two were huge openings), people were obviously going to the movies, Speed Racer just didn't connect with audiences.

I agree. Audience would go to see a movie they like, and they just don't like SR. SR may be sandwiched between IM and Narnia, but IM wasn't a sure-fire hit due to the relative obscurity of this Marvel superhero, and Narnia also underperformed (it only made 28 mil in its 2nd weekend). People simply don't like the movie, and that itself is the reason why it tanked at the BO.

I didn't even make some outlandish excuse for Speed Racer failing. If you see a few posts up, I clearly state why the film failed. However, I fail to see how you can deny Iron Man and Prince Caspian in terms of the money made. Iron Man had amazing reviews, and it had major appeal to the audiences. The money and reputation that it made took away from what Speed Racer could have made. Any chance of repeating relatively close to 18.5 million for the next week was demolished by Prince Caspian opening. Like I said in my earlier post, had Speed Racer appealed to the audience, it should have at least held it's own against Iron Man. However, it got beaten not only by Iron Man (landslide second weekend of 50 million) but also What Happens in Vegas (a romantic-comedy released in the summer that opened in several hundred less theaters, but still averaged more money per theater).

I didn't even like Speed Racer. I am just stating that had it opened in April or August, it would have made more than 18.5 million on it's opening weekend. The most it would have made on opening weekend (unopposed) would be 35 million at the most, but more than 18.5 million. It still would have bombed at the box office, but not as bad as it's going to now.

for everyone else, you can't blame timing because what happens in vegas is beating speed racer considerably and it's not even that high in numbers.

fans just need to cut their losses. why does every movie need a sequel? if you liked it, it's a complete solo story. it doesn't need a sequel. if you didn't like it, don't worry, it's will die a whimper death, and in two months, people will probably not even remember it.

people also need to stop support these box-office numbers. who the hell cares how much money it makes. if you liked it, good for you. but you won't see a dime of that gross. so i don't see the reason why people are so caught up with BO numbers. if you liked the film, dont' let BO numbers tell you otherwise.
