Spider-Man: Edge of Time - Part 1

This is just Shattered Dimensons rehashed all over. The combat looks the exact same, even the dumb web fists come back.

I knew Beenox wasnt going to be able to create a fresh game, they are just slapping a different coat of paint on top of SD.

This will be, yet again, another mediocre Spidey title. Maybe they'll get it right next time.


This sums it all up:

One of the biggest things Activision and Beenox stressed was that Spider-Man: Edge of Time is not a sequel to Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions.

I, respectfully, disagree. Don't get me wrong, the Edge of Time story -- an Alchemax Scientist goes back in time and kills Spider-Man, so Spidey 2099 reaches back and tries to help Amazing avoid his doom -- has nothing to do with Shattered Dimensions, but I'm telling you that after seeing this game in action, Spider-Man: Edge of Time is most definitely the next iteration of what Shattered Dimensions was.
 
Wow, this screenshots look good! However, I'm not too thrilled about it possibly taking place in just one place. I have some doubt.

No **** it looks just like SD's combat. We all knew this. I don't see why people say it looks just like Shattered Dimensions cross the board tho. It's a sequel in every sense of the word except Beenox's. Of course it's gonna reuse stuff, COD does it, Splinter Cell did it, Assassin's Creed does it and the old Prince of Persia did it.

This game changes locations and possibly layout of the game, a sequel in every way.
 
I don't get what is wrong with it using Shattered Dimensions as a template. They'll improve upon the combat, it doesn't look like its free roam but who knows we've only seen like a minute of it. The game does look like it is more story driven which is sweet. I'm interested in seeing what they do with the whole picture and picture aspect.

That's just it. Beenox claims it's not a sequel but the two titles are almost impossible to tell apart.

I'm going out on a limb saying that the majority of us didn't want another SD, but that's what we are getting.
 
Bad comparisons too dtud. Looking at the difference in quality between AC 1 and AC 2, i'm going to go out on a limb here and say Edge of Time doesn't even have 20 percent of the changes that AC series sequel had.

I'm already iffy. This did the opposite of what I wanted. I'll still keep my eyes on it, but I just don't care right now.

I love Amazing Spider-Man's new look though.
 
The more I think about the Alchemax thing, the less I care. If it's like one huge hub world with each area having a different look/feel, then I'm all for it.

This sums up pretty much how I felt.

I didn't hate SD by any means but I don't want to play through another one, which appears to be whats happening.
 
The combat looking identical made me cry a little, to be honest.

Yeah it was a pretty bad one, put it was just to point out that sequels reuse stuff. AC2 had 450 people working on it for 2 years, of course there is gonna be more stuff to it than Edge of Time will ever have. I get where people are coming from, and it annoys me that Beenox is pretending its not a sequel, they can't just ignore their previous work. But its not unusual for a follow-up to expand on what the first game did. And what do we know, EoT may have better tuned controls, making the game feel a whole lot better while playing it.
 
No idea why they didn't just go with the same crappy looking Amazing Spider-Man model they had in S.D. \:

Yeah, that's the part that has me worried. I mean, I'm excited, but I didn't really want to spend an entire game inside a facility.

If it's as detailed and varied as Arkham Asylum then It won't be a problem. However I highly doubt it would.

Aw man, I don't wanna spend a whole game inside a freaking mad house. :(

Nah just kidding, but they said the locations will be diverse so hopefully it won't all look the same. Although I have to admit the Alchemax news is kinda iffy, do they even exist in 616?

One thing they should work on are the transition animations, it was very obvious in SD where an animation started and ended and it looks the same way here.

Still, I'll keep my eye on this game. Some of it has me very excited while some of it still has me in the dark.

I'll see how I feel in a few weeks.
 
dtud, I still have faith, I just have a small bit of doubt. I'm skeptical, I guess you could say.
 
The combat still irritates me. I don't want web hammers and all that stuff! Web attacks like the ones in Spider-Man 2 (movie game) but with alot better fluid animation would have been so much better. Throwing and pulling guys around etc.

I'm really looking forward to the boss battles. Beenox know how to handle those for sure!

The fact that it is concentrated in only one place also puts me down, but they said it looks like an entire city in there.
I decided to give the benefit of doubt on this one.

that definitely isn't promising, with games like Assassins Creed, those can be done in a year due to the fact that it's a series so the gameplay is gonna carry over from one game to another due to continuity. The Spider-Man games are never a series, each is it's own standalone game, it's pretty bad on Activisions part to cut corners by taking their previous game and condensing certain aspects of it, slap a different name on it and expect people to embrace it. Since this is Beenox's second Spidey game, it's already looking like their direction is having multiple Spider-Men and the merging of different universes/dimensions/worlds etc.
