Spider-Man: Edge of Time - Part 1

The story is the one thing still drawing me to this game. Has me very excited.

I like the idea of what Anti-Venom does, but I'm not a fan of the story with the two timelines, the gameplay, or graphics. Mostly, for the latter two, because it's way too similar with SD and it's not even a sequel.

Really? I know the graphics aren't as amazing as your mass effects or uncharted etc, but they don't seem bad to me, just about standard for any current gen game. And the gameplay from SD had a lot of potential. It wasn't the controls or the fighting that bother me in that game but just the level structure in general, how it felt essentially like a beat em up. The open setting in this game makes me think that might have been improved for this game. And not a direct sequel is fine with me. Did SD really need a direct sequel? That story was so weak anyway. Something different works fine for me.

That said, I haven't made my mind up about this game yet, but so far it at least has my attention.

I've said it before, but how do you make a brand new game in 1 year?

You don't.

That's why these games are so similar...there is no time to change them up.

The reason I'm not excited for this game is because it's looking to be a part of the usual Activision formula of create a game and then milk it to death with yearly iterations that don't improve much (if at all) over the previous release until the franchise is left in ruins.

But people acting like "oh Anti-Venom? pff...this game is pure trash now" are being ridiculous.

The game was prob gonna be trash regardless but the fact they are using someone like anti venom when they could of used Osborn or Octavious just makes it even more so. I mean jeez how many symbiotes have to show up in these effing games. Why are you people not sick of them yet!?

It's not that the graphics are bad or even cringeworthy, lol. I just wanted to see something new.

So....with that logic, every Spider-Man game from Beenox will look the same?

What I am saying is that I think they should've made the entire game look more slick, perhaps a game that looked like Noir, but with colors, or maybe something like Ultimate. I'm glad they're trying to make the entire game look more like 2099, but it doesn't look as "natural" as it did in SD.

I think the Spidey's look pretty good. The thing i'm underwhelmed by is the enemies. They all look the same. I know this is the case in a lot of games, but it's just one of those things where the little extra effort to make them stand out makes the experience feel that much richer.

@Pat, i'm sick of fighting symbiotes and having them used like Zombies, just a throw away enemy to beat on with nothing interesting to them but I don't really object to the main Symbiote characters, depending on how their written. If Anti-Venom is written as an interesting, conflicted character then great. If he's just another mindless, monster then lame. I don't think Anti-Venom is the character people should be lamenting though, he's just a puppet to the big villain, some new, future scientist guy. THAT is the villain that should have been Osborn or Ock, one of the biggies. I don't care about his henchman, but the mastermind could have been someone actually significant.

Yes. That's what I've been saying since the beginning. Until Activision gives Beenox more than 12 months to make a game, they will all look like SD clones with small variations.

What really? Anti-Venom? I'm still optimistic about this game (just to be your opposite Anno ;)) but that trailer did nothing to me. But well, I'll guess I watch it again in the morning when things aren't as fuzzy.

Not that I have anything against Anti-Venom or the story in general. But just judging from the trailer the game overall looks so, standard. It seems to lack flair.

what i dont understand is why everbody just wants this game to suck? Better yet why everybody is saying this game sucks before we even know enough about it or have played it?

My only pet peeve is still those damn Web Shapes powers. Web fists and web hammers. He's sporting Webshooters, not a Playdoh dispencer on his wrists.

Well, to me it's not the enemies really. It's the whole feel to the look of this game...looks too similar to SD, which I can understand, but they didn't even look like they tried better, lol.

Plus...I hate Spidey 616's suit. The webbing just looks ugly.

Yes. That's what I've been saying since the beginning. Until Activision gives Beenox more than 12 months to make a game, they will all look like SD clones with small variations.

I don't want to believe that though :csad:

Now, I wouldn't mind if they do something such as Noir, and add color to it, or maybe a slicker version of Ultimate...but something to make it seem more different than SD. And how they tried to make this game look how 2099 did in SD doesn't count because, as I said before, it doesn't even look as slick as SD showed.

I dont hear anybody *****ing about ag or gta looking the same as there previous games why should this be any different? Plus this also allows them to make a better game then there last one. sandbox has been done to death and I cant even bring myself to play anotherone.

Lol...GTA is in the same franchise/series. Edge of Time and Shattered Dimensions are not. So, there's one difference with your logic.

And...I'm pretty sure we won't be getting a "better game".

I just found this on Marvel...

What the hell? Why is he so thin all of a sudden? What's going on...?

sd and eot use the same engine so in a way they are the same. O.O

Yeah I think it might be better since they're using the same engine they can focus on polishing up other parts of the game.

So...the Mass Effect games, the BioShock games and Arkham Asylum are the same since they use the same engine? Lol.

And no...they may create better graphics, or even gameplay...but we will never get that solid A+ Spider-Man game unless Acitivsion does something different and that is to let Beenox get some extra time to work on such game, and maybe, just maybe, create a script before they think of what villains to use first.

And...perhaps Anti-Venom gains some fat/weight after he sucks the radioactive blood/"poison" from Spidey?

He Is Legend reference...had to, haha.

No I'm saying that I don't hear anybody whining about gta or ag looking the same, all these games do is keep adding stuff and ploshing thats all I'm saying. we are attacking a game we haven't even played, I think we should give it a shot.

That Anti-Venom is much better than the brute AV.

I think its great that they are using a character that hasn't been done to death. And if we don't get green goblin in this game I'm going to kill someone.

There's nothing wrong with two games looking the same, if they're sequels. If they DON'T look similar, THAT'S when you get into shaky territory. Arkham Asylum and Arkham City's henchmen guys look pretty much the same. ALL of the God of Wars look and work similar, and they're all GREAT games. The POINT is that each game improves upon the last one and makes certain aspects of the sequel better from the last one. And it's already been announced that they ARE doing that. They're listening to what we found wrong with Shattered Dimensions and trying to fix those things. That doesn't mean they're going to completely revamp all the graphics, because then it might as well be an entirely different game, instead of a sequel.
