No, it isn't, because again, they were made by different people. It is more like saying Prototype is a spiritual sequel to Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, or MUA is a sequel to X-Men Legends 2. Essentially, in creative design, it IS a sequel, or if different wording makes it easier to understand, the 2nd installment in the Beenox series. Saying they don't deserve to make a second game is pretty unfair too, because with the restrictions Activision puts down, who could possibly make a perfect Spidey game straight outta the gate? If they did some things right in SD, which you yourself admitted, why not give them a chance to build on the weaker aspects?
Spiritual successor is probably the perfect word for Edge of Time. Much like Red Dead Redemption is with Red Dead Revolver. Taking the "better" parts, but not saying it, in any way, is a true sequel.
I still stand behind with what I said about a SD 2 though. Shattered Dimensions seemed just like an one-off, and at least wouldn't feel like wanting a sequel, and that's how I felt as soon as I finished the game. It wasn't like Assassin's Creed or Arkham Asylum where I wanted a sequel at that very moment or even wanted a sequel down the line. It was a fun game, sure, but nothing momentous to make me want a sequel for it.
Wasn't Prototype Activision anyway?
Activision definitely has some gems, I'll give them that. And they don't usually make yearly games for every franchise they have, and Prototype shows it. Sure, Prototype 2 was shown off in 2010, a year after the first installment came out, but they're still polishing it up and releasing it next year. Maybe Radical Entertainment have been standing up for themselves and insists that they take time for the Prototype games, lol.
Also, calling someone else out on whether they played Final Fantasy, did YOU play SD yet? :P
