Far From Home Spider-Man: Far From Home General Discussion and Speculation - Part 1

Jessica Drew was born in Transia from an American father and a French mother while raised by an Englishman named Herbert Windham and an anthropomorphic cow. It's hard to truly say what nationality she is (although I maintain she would have had an English accent growing up). She would be a French citizen and, I believe, an American citizen at birth. She wouldn't be a UK citizen. That being said, I don't think her nationality is the most important aspect of the character.

According to Marvel Jessica's nationality is British but she's naturalized American. She has a British accent (confirmed by both Bendis and Dennis Hopeless).

Considering the rumor, it makes sense for them to cast a British actress.

That said, I just want them to get the right actress for the role. That's what I care about.

I recently read Evolutionary War, which had backup stories with Herbert Windham's life story. In that story, it explicitly says Jessica's father is an American and her mother is French. That being said, I just doublechecked and Jessica was born when we are introduced to her. At that time, the Drews are living in France, but it's possible she was born in the UK.

That being said, I maintain that she has a British accent because she grew up around a sentient cow who was trained on a computer system that I would argue taught British English.

That said, if they start Jess out with no Powers they could go with the angle that she had them and lost them somehow. In the comics the Skrulls kidnapped Jess but restored her powers so Veranke could pose as her. I saw a synopsis for the Captain Marvel movie (take it with a huge grain of salt but it seemed plausible)
[blackout]that stated a few Skrulls stayed behind on earth when Carol went to space. If (BIG HUGE IFF) that winds up being the case, it's entirely possible they go the secret invasion route in restoring Jessica's powers.[/blackout]

Anything is possible, but wouldn't that mean having to wait, like, another decade to finally see Jessica in all her superpowered glory?

Who knows when Marvel will be ready to give us Secret Invasion.

I think Capt. Marvel is the back door pilot for the Secret Invasion arc which like the Thanos/Infinity Stones arc will be threaded through the MCU for years.

Let's start with the woman in the back. They're looking for "An 18-26 year old actress of any ethnicity, preferably a character actor or comedienne." That's simple.

There are two other casting calls. One for a character named Jason, and one for a gender non-conforming student. Remy Hii's Instagram page is pretty much solid proof that he's in it. There's also Oli Hill, whose post is also clear evidence.

I think Remy is playing the likable Jason dude. "An 18-25 year old male, to play a high school senior named “JASON” who is described as “charming and insanely likable.” He also looks like a senior.

Oliver, I think, is playing the gender non-conforming student. "An 18-22 year old ethnicity to play a gender non-conforming student" Ok, I don't mean to offend anyone, but out of the two dudes, who looks more like someone who could be gender non-conforming?

Not really feeling the title, or the location. The web-slinging in the MCU really seems to be lacking so far and I don't think it will improve in this movie. I am stoked for Mysterio though.

The Russo bros got it down right imo. They understand that Spider-Man is an acrobat in the air. His swinging in infinity war and civil war is both stylish and aggressive. Homecoming I think did a bad job at this. They kept showing him making mistakes which got annoying after awhile.

I completely agree. From combat to web-slinging, the Russo's nailed it. I really wish we could get a Spider-man movie directed by them.

A little off topic, but I also think they portrayed Black Panther better in Civil War as well.

See, I actually loved the mistakes in Homecoming. Really added stakes and made you realize that this really is just a kid and things could go wrong at any moment. It's fun character building. I'm sure the difference is because the Russos have a lot more action experience and they skew towards those moments. I enjoy both, but especially the vulnerable, imperfectness of Homecoming. And I'm sure he'll continue to become more and more adept as these movies go on.
Spidey is at his best when things aren't going his way.

See, I actually loved the mistakes in Homecoming. Really added stakes and made you realize that this really is just a kid and things could go wrong at any moment. It's fun character building. I'm sure the difference is because the Russos have a lot more action experience and they skew towards those moments. I enjoy both, but especially the vulnerable, imperfectness of Homecoming. And I'm sure he'll continue to become more and more adept as these movies go on.

I didn't mind all of the mistakes he made per say, but the way that the film portrayed his mistakes as a reason to rely on Iron Man. I wouldn't mind a more independent Spider-man that was a little less cumbersome.

Was about to post about this. Little disappointed that it’s not an improved version like we saw with the Disney suit, but I guess it’s better than them regressing to something worse.

Don't forget that in IW, Peter technically never stopped wearing the "classic" suit - the Iron Spider was treated as a sort of add-on to it. So it would make sense that should he return from the Infinity events (as if that was in doubt), he'd still have the classic suit.
