Far From Home Spider-Man: Far From Home General Discussion and Speculation - Part 2

https://io9.gizmodo.com/spider-man-will-no-longer-be-shared-by-marvel-and-sony-1837416155

When contacted by io9, a Sony representative said it’s their belief this dispute is simply over a producer credit and negotiations are ongoing. They further clarified that Feige has contributed to other Spider-centric movies that he did not receive a producer credit on. Other sources tell us the Deadline story is completely accurate.

Spider-Man Could Leave MCU if Disney, Sony Can’t Reach Financing Deal

One source said that a deal might still be reached between Disney and Sony. Disney is believed to have expressed concerns that Feige was spread too thin due to other Marvel projects plus original projects

not with this trending on twitter. Everyone is talking about it and not just fans. And they are all blaming Sony. It's definitely going to make a dent. And if they have to recast, it's game over.

Another correction: most negative reactions, again "most", are from marvelites online blaming Sony.

I’m gonna feel bad for Tom if he gets screwed over by this in one way or another. He’s just a gung-ho kid playing a dream role who wants to keep doing it.
He's the only one I feel bad for in this.

I wouldn't be surprised if this sticks if legal battles are waged over every little minute detail of what can and can't be mentioned lol

Happy
Vulture and mysterios ties to iron man
Edith
Fury
Happy Hogan
The "blip"
Everything that happened in civil war, IW and EG

Etc... etc... lol

Because no one wants another Amazing Spider-man debacle.

The MCU will survive without Spider-man. None of the announced projects deal with the fallout from Far From Home.

I can’t say the same for Sony only being allowed to use Spider-man and not name drop anyone. Maybe they can finally get around to revealing the secrets of Spider-man’s parents they seem to think the audience cares about.

Exactly. I don't see how they can use Tom's Spider. They might have to reboot.

Holland is Sony's pick. Disney wanted and almost chose Asa Butterfield. He is tied to Sony. Why would they have to reboot? Smh. A lot of misinformation being spread online with this news today.
And Sony has him starring in Uncharted. They retooled the film as an Origin story so that Holland could star in it. Hes their golden boy at the moment. And Holland seems very excited about the role. He isnt going to walk away from that, and the role of Spiderman out of some brand loyalty to Marvel and Disney.

And Holland is only 23. It would not be a good look for him to give Sony the finger and walk away from Uncharted which is in preproduction, and walk away from Sony who already has plans for the Spiderman character. Hollywood wont care that he did it out of loyalty or love of the MCU. Theyll see it as a kid being petulant that cant be trusted to fulfill a contract when things dont go the way he wants. That's not the sort of reputation a 23 year old actor wants to get stuck with.

I'd be perfectly fine with the events of Civil War and the stupid ass Accords never being mentioned again.

This whole thing is now playing out in public because they reached an impasse. Marvel deserves to get more than the 5% first-day gross they were getting under the original deal but not the 50% of total profit. Seems Disney was more wanting to compensate Feige for all the work he does than anything else since they don't want him burned out by working on so many projects. Sony needs to acknowledge Marvel's work they do for them by giving them a bit more of the profit but were smart to reject Disney's 50% offer.

Also, I do find it rather odd this news came out so shortly after they announced that FFH would be getting a director's cut with an extra 4 minutes of footage. All of this feels really calculated, but I'm not sure on who's part.

That means nothing at the end of the day. Twitter is nothing but a bunch of negative nancies and whining about something. To most people they will see Tom Holland in another Spider-Man film and they will say oh it is a sequel to the last one. I like the last one. So I will go see it. It's not flopping. Venom got nothing but negative Twitter buzz basically its entire existence and it laughed all the way to over eight hundred million dollars

Most people are aware of the deal now. It's not just fans saying this. If Tom is involved, it won't flop but it's not going to make a billion. And that is just for the next movie, the ones after that are going to diminish.

I would agree it will diminish but the amount that were talking about a diminishing I think people are grossly overstating. This last movie made over a billion dollars it's not suddenly going to drop with Tom Holland to a sub 700 million dollar worldwide movie. It's still going to probably fall somewhere around the 800 million dollar range, which Sony I have no doubts would be very happy with if they keep making around that dollar value. Assuming they don't do something stupid like balloon the budget up to three hundred million dollars like with the Amazing Spider-Man 2. We're just too emotionally invested in these things to see this objectively

SMH. Spider-Man reboot #3 in 3... 2... 1...

Good luck, Sony. You will need it.

I swear if it’s another damn reboot I’m not watching a spidey film to the rights are 100 percent back

it could diminish if disney just says screw it and moves a phase 4 movie to it's second weekend or something

7 of the top 10 worldwide trends are Marvel related. Including Andrew Garfield, lmao.

Even Sony's stock took a dip after the news. Several petitions have been made.

Behold, the power of a Change.org petition...

Also, the small dive is barely going to hinder Sony after how well they've been doing these past few months.

In the end I'm hardly surprised. Big corporations aren't going to play nice. No doubt Disney got greedy and wanted too much. I doubt they hurt much on this agreement with the merchandise sales they had coming their way.

But I always expected Sony to be ready to break things off as well. The moment Venom did well I knew that was the end of this sharing arrangement. The second Sony figured they could survive on their own and create their own Spider-Man cinematic universe then they would be off to the races.

Sadly that's how it goes. At least Spider-Man was in some big movies like Civil War and the culmination of the MCU's biggest moments. If that's where it ends...well that's that. It is more than I ever expected. Funny enough I'd been so busy with work that I was going to see Far from Home this weekend...motivation kind of died there. Not much point now.

Sony needs MCU more than MCU needs them and Sony at this point. The two movies relied on events that took place in the MCU, his whole relationship with Stark plays a big part. He will have to make everything on his own and not mention Stark or his tech. No Happy Hogan either, I hope Holland continues. I still expect something to be worked out they have a good thing going in terms of the character be liked and the stories. Marvel already have a bunch of plans with future movies and characters that have not interacted with Parker, so the loss won't hurt them there. He was great with the original core, but with MCU entering a new phase with new things they can hold out longer than Sony.
