Far From Home Spider-Man: Far From Home General Discussion and Speculation - Part 2

I kind of see it as an error of judgement from him too. You have to go for roles that you can excel
in. Spider-Man/Parker was a role that fit him like a glove by contrast.

I think it was a bad idea for him to pitch it and a worse idea for Sony to say “brilliant! Greenlit!”

I’m not sure yet how much range he has. He basically just is a British Peter Parker IRL.

I also thought Sony as an overall company would be a bit more protective of one of their crown jewel gaming products. But I guess Rothman and co answer to no one.

I'm sure between 50-75 mill, but I still don't think it'll gross 200 mill WW.
Morbius is a lesser character, I don't think the quality will be there (I'm picturing it being a Screen Gems level film), and I think they're going to forego the horror elements that might be in a secondary audience.

EDIT: Now I see Morbius has a summer release date? Nah I'm sticking by my shoe
Think it was mentioned in leaked mails that Spidey movies must have minimum 90M production budget so I'd expect Morbius to cost 90-105.

Got to work, and I hoped this was all part of a bad dream, but looks like it's real. Yeah yeah yeah...not final...yadda yadda yadda...

I'll just resign to this being the end. I truly don't care about seeing non-MCU or non-Spider-verse (the animated Oscar-winning awesome one) Spidey films anymore. It's like drinking the awesome glass bottle Mexican Coca-Colas freshly cooled and awesome, and then being handed a hot glass of flat Pepsi and being told, "It's just as good!"

Not me. Not me...

If they get off their high horses and work it out for the fans (you know, the ones who went all apey when we saw that Civil War preview years ago where he webbed the shield?), then I'll be happy. I just tend not to get my hopes up when it comes to expecting Sony to NOT be stupid, and then expecting Disney to NOT be greedy.

Personally I just hope Sony and Disney are at least able to keep enough of a dialogue going to prevent the Spider-man continuity from shattering. There's no reason why Spider-man can't have his own isolated adventures made by Sony while still having him occasionally appear in big crossover event Avengers movies on a case by case basis. Surely it's still in both companies' interest to have Tom Holland's Spider-man appear in Avengers movies and for the audience to view the Spider-man movies as connected to the MCU.

The only thing that could really bungle it all up is the question of whether or not Sony can make Spider-man movies that consistently meet the standards of the MCU.

Sony is being selfish, and hoarding the money to themselves. They are screwing over the fans with their low quality plot from movies like Venom and Spiderverse.

Honestly SM1+SM2+PS4+SpiderVerse are 10/10s. HC and FFH... Maybe 6/10? So I definitely don't care what happens here. Honestly it can work. Kraven's movie can be transformed into Spidey 3 then use Venom and Carnage in Spidey 4 then you have Keaton, Gyllenhaal and Hardy in Sinister Six and there's still chance to make a live action SpiderVerse movie. Not bad.

You forgot Avi Arad will probably be involved, but I admire your optimism.

Could Keaton and Gyllenhaal appear in non-MCU Sony movies or are they MCU property?

Well, I'm sure Mysterio and Vulture are part of the original deal. After all both would appear in Raimi's SM4. Plus these movies are Sony productions so why not?

I wouldn't see why not. If Tom Holland can appear in Sony movies, then I for sure see the villains being able to as well. They probably just can't mention things like alien tech or Tony Stark Etc

True and I don't say these movies will be great but ASM at least gave me two wonderful scores. HC and FFH left me empty.

I think this is Disney's fault if they asked for more money. Sony wanted to continue the old deal but Disney didn't want to do it. Why would Sony accept less money?

I guess we're ignoring SM3, TASM, and TASM2? Sony does have a good batting average when they're left to their own devices--VENOM is actually a pretty bad movie.

I also don't blame Disney for asking for more money since they could argue the franchise has become more popular than ever thanks to being a part of the MCU. Why give a ton of creative input just to settle for 20-30% of the profits?

So will then movies just continue without any references to MCU? Full reboot might be better than that.

This is going to be a matter of opinion to pretty much every poster on here, but I would prefer a continuation of the current series with just no references outside of Spider-Man related things. I don't want to see a full hard reboot of Spider-Man yet again in such a short period of time

Because the risk of rebooting Spidey for a third time this century, even if it is a soft reboot, are much more consequential for Sony than the risk Disney faces for Spidey dropping out of the MCU.

These are businesses. They are supposed to be selfish! If your pension pays out terribly after decades of hard work from you it’s because the companies invested in were nice rather than selfish.

Yeah. I think a continuation sans mcu references would likely be the best option for the brand in that scenario. It would take the least amount of reworking than a full reboot and they could potentially re-insert him in the mcu if it came up again.

This is very true, I must say. But there also the chance this could be another TASM problem. I also didn't care much for Venom. So on one hand, I really both Homecoming and Far From Home didn't do anything to me, so this doesnt really bother me much, but on the other things could go back to being even worse than before..

I must say, and im sure others wont agree, but I'm relieved a bit that I don't have to worry about Spider-man hanging onto Iron Man anymore. That makes me wonder what will happen next in terms of the universe Holland is in.
