I'm honestly not hyped with the idea of seeing most of those villains on the big screen.
But my point was mostly about how those Sony spin-offs can affect the MCU Spider-Man movies. I mean, I'd love to see Kraven, Venom, Carnage, the symbiote and Black Cat in the MCU movies eventually. I feel like they're setting up the Sinister Six there, but Sony still seems invested in that SS movie, so that's weird.
I'd be more hyped about seeing Green Goblin, Dr Octopus, Venom, Sandman, Lizard, and with characters like Rino, Scorpion and Shocker having a bit bigger roles than they had previously.
But again, my point was mostly about how Sony Spider-Man Cinematic Universe can affect the future MCU Spider-Man movies. Which villain could top the hype of Mysterio, for instance?
I can see your point. I mean, I would love to see several of these villains make it into solo MCU Spiderman installments. At the same time however , given all the other MCU films which are in the pineline , it would take forever to get to Green Goblin, Ock etc in the MCU.
Additionally, given that alot of them have already appeared in previous Spiderman franchises, I could see Marvel wanting to stick with villains which haven't been done already.
That's why I'm
now more open to spin off films . I was against the idea during the Webb era because it just wasn't practical at that time with that franchise. The landscape is different now with Spiderman secure, for the time being in the MCU, and audiences open to seeing different types of comicbook films.
I'm open to Spin offs now,
provided that:
1) they
don't close the door to Goblin, Ock, etc in appearing a Solo Spiderman , i.e. that the films don't place the villans in universe in which Spiderman doesn't exist.
2) that the films are good.
As far as villains in solo MCU Spiderman films, I don't think the idea is so much ,who tops Mysterio in the next film , but which villains are compelling enough to present Spiderman with a threat that challenges him as a character. In terms of who that villain is , I couldn't say. Its ultimately up the the writers I suppose.
Marvel took a character like Vulture who kept being pushed out of several Spiderman films in the development stage, and made him one of the best villains of all of the Spiderman live action films. At the same time, they took the Prowler, who i've always been underwhelmed by and frankly felt was lame, and made him a spooky menacing threat in
Into the Spiderverse.
So I think that they couldn't take another lesser known villain, to the GA at least , and make them a compelling , threatening , foe.
