The changes to all the supporting characters still bother me (Betty Brandt especially), but I can learn to live with it. What I can’t wrap my head around is why they didn’t just name Zendaya Mary Jane if she’s going to be this world’s MJ. It’s such a weird choice.

The reason I am betting was to avoid push back from fans who would not like the changes made to Mary Jane. So if you give her another name, then that minimizes the push back. The changes to her don't bother me, personally.

I didn't mind the action sequences in Homecoming, but with a character like Mysterio I definitely think they should step it up in that department. Visually you can do so much cool stuff with him and going by the end of the trailer it looks like they may do it afterall.

I see the international version of the trailer has Flash saying "what's up loser?" whereas the other version of it he says "what's up dickwad?" Is it because the latter word is too vulgar for international audiences or because it is just an American phrase which international audiences won't get?

Wish we saw a front shot of Mysterio's helmet.

they could've just came out and confirmed it, but purists would have gone nuts and they probably don't feel like dealing with that headache, so they're probably still going with the "shes not mary jane but we're making reference to the character" nonsense. I agree though, they just need to own it and move on.

Should've just called her Mary Jane Watson from the get-go, controversy be damned. Now we're stuck with this mindboggling decision.

I was indifferent to her in Homecoming, so hopefully this movie changes my mind.

Personally I'd much rather they called her Mary Jane than what they've done with her
Slightly changing the perceived look of a character is way less of an issue than completely changing a character's name, backstory, personality, AND looks

Zendaya would've been a great MJ, and the racists wouldve gotten over it eventually (or rather they'd have shut up eventually).... but instead she's just a half-step, a reminder that Disney, and therefore sometimes Marvel, has no balls

Other than that though, trailer looked great, Mysterio is a perfect adaption of the comic costume, Happy and Aunt May looks great, and Samuel L brings a fun dynamic with Tom Holland

They should have just made her MJ instead of wishy-washy pseudo-MJ netherworld she's in.

But then this is also a universe where Marisa Tomei is Aunt May, Ganke is named Ned Leeds, and Tom Holland could kick Flash's ass without superpowers.

I'd have zero problem with Zendaya as MJ if she looked like this.

I've always been a weird Spider-Man fan. For most, Green Goblin, or Ock, or Venom, etc. were always the favorite villain of choice. I've always been a Mysterio guy. I've basically been waiting for this moment my whole life, LOL! Well, at least since they started making Spider-Man movies. So far, not disappointed. Mysterio looks great and I cannot wait to see what kind of twists and turns they do with him. I really want them to go far with his illusion capabilities

I can kind of understand that, but I would’ve preferred they were just up front about it. Rip off the band aid and move on. I can get behind the changes, it’s not like MJ has been perfectly adapted anywhere ever and USM’s variation of MJ was very different than her 616 counterpart.

The whole noncommittal thing is just strange.

I was just thinking she was Liz Allen and you reminded me she is Betty Brant. Yeah, I don't like the supporting cast and the changes they've made to a lot of them. I hate that kid as Flash and is Flash especially.

And yeah, Zendaya is pretty much Mary Jane. Maybe in the next reboot we can finally get this moment.

Fundamentally, I agree with you guys. She might as been MJ since that's basically who she is. But it's honestly a whatever thing to me.

Im kinda on the same page. I was hoping for the most faithful live action adaptation yet but it's not at all. They should've used Spectacular Spider-Man as their template

Flash has been a waste too. I like how he's a Spider-Man fan boy but why would he be after him stealing and crashing the car in Homecoming?
