The first half for the movie is rough. It leans way too much into awkward, forced comedy. Too much Mr. Harrington and Mr. Dell. I didn't care for those characters. Homecoming had enough of Mr. Harrington, who had a lot of his scenes cut that was enough.
The other issue is that most of the action is in the back half. it's good action and all, but I think they could've spread it out a bit more.
I liked Gyllenhaal's Mysterio. I can't say much more than that. It's a good update for the character.
Zendaya's Michelle is OK. I still I don't get why she needs to be "MJ" other than that she's a friend and love interest to Peter.
Basically in this universe, Tony Stark is Peter's new Uncle Ben. I don't love it, but that's just how it is now.
Also the movie definitely took some direct lifts from the Insomniac/PS4 video game.
I think once it hits the second half, it generally worked for me and felt more like a classic Spider-Man story. That's what I wanted more of I hope they can do more of in the future for live-action Spider-Man.
