Did Venom nearly make a billion? Doesn't sound familiar tbh and it would make Sony's lethargy in gearing up a sequel more baffling.
Probably right, but I don’t know how many more successful films they’ll get out of him. A few sure, but the universe seems too limited long term without benefiting from larger exposure. Same would apply to pretty much every solo superhero or solo hero character in general.
Over $800 mill. I don't know what we're count to "nearly a billion"Did Venom nearly make a billion? Doesn't sound familiar tbh and it would make Sony's lethargy in gearing up a sequel more baffling.
If Morbius is successful, I'll eat a shoeWe are never going to get a 22 movie epic out of just Spider-Man characters. I think we can most definitely agree there. But for a limited continuity and mini Universe, I think they can at least keep it going for a few years. It really is going to depend on how many viable franchises Sony can build off of here. Right now, we have both Spider-Man and Venom as valuable franchises to this point. We will see how Morbius does. We already know that prior to the halting of that project the Sony was attempting to branch out with Black Cat and Silver Sable. I imagine they will go back to that idea. Probably will get fast-tracked if Morbius is successful.

Yes, and Kraven too right? It’s not just lack of a long term though, I don’t think all of these films are going to be blockbusters. In that sense it might not be that big overall, especially as Spidey has already had 7 solos and is no longer a fresh property. Doing him in the MCU was something different. The Sinister 6 is the only event status film that I think could go big, but even then it won’t be as big as it would have been within the MCU.We are never going to get a 22 movie epic out of just Spider-Man characters. I'm sure between 50-75 mill, but I still don't think it'll gross 200 mill WW.Before I make a statement like that, I want to know how much Morbius is going to cost to make. Because it's not going to make Venom I think we can all agree there. But is this movie going to be closer to Venom budget or is it can be closer to Joker budget? Because if it is closer to Joker budget, that it honestly does not need to make that much in order to be profitable

Morbius is a lesser character, I don't think the quality will be there (I'm picturing it being a Screen Gems level film), and I think they're going to forego the horror elements that might be in a secondary audience.
EDIT: Now I see Morbius has a summer release date? Nah I'm sticking by my shoe
Same here. I will say though qualitatively we can have an argument about what the quality will look like on Spider-Man films going forward, from a financial standpoint this could be the best thing that could have happened for Tom Holland personally. Sony in order to keep him as Spider-Man is going to offer him the Sun, the moon, and the Stars. Sony no doubt is seeing the backlash that we are all seeing everywhere on the internet. I think Sony knows fans are not happy if they lose Tom Holland as Spider-Man. More so then Marvel Studios and Kevin feige, I think Sony values Tom Holland as Spider-Man. So I see them offering Tom Holland as much as it will take to keep him in the role as long as they can. This means Tom Holland may command a higher asking price from Sony due to the divorce.
People saying "Holland will want no part of this!" have to consider how valuable an IP like Spider-Man is for an actor. We've seen Chris Hemsworth's pretty much every non-Thor movie flop.Yeah but Venom is a well known character and had Tom HardyI don't disagree with anything you're saying here, but at the same time I don't think any of us saw Venom making as much as it did. So while I tend to agree with this statement, I'm not willing to make that bet LOL
YupYeah. And I think Holland has a good relationship with Sony. He loves Spider-Man, so I doubt he will start phoning his performance unless the material is truly wretchedPeople saying "Holland will want no part of this!" have to consider how valuable an IP like Spider-Man is for an actor. Watts may walk, and I'm fine with that.
Oh yeah that too. I’d have to watch that.I get the feeling that Sony has an event movie plan here for Maximum Carnage. I think that is where we may see that Tom Holland and Tom Hardy team-up movie that's been teased. So if that's the case, then we have two event movies they still can do. But I agree outside of those two and maybe some type of Spider-Verse crossover that brings back Toby and Andrew, I fail to see what else they could build towards
Yeah but Venom is a well known character and had Tom Hardy
Morbius is D list and has Jared Leto
Take the bet...
At this point I don’t know how they are going to make Uncharted work. All the game fans seem to think it’s a joke of a casting even though they like Holland. And beyond that video game films have had a hard time with the general audience. This would be a Tomb Raider type film and could go for that level. The ideal of course would be Indy level, but I have no idea how you pull that off with Holland as the lead. Not saying it can’t be done, just that I can’t see it yet. Of course I’d love for it to work. One of the best game series out there and it would be very disappointing if the film was half-hearted.Yup
Holland doesn't have that many prospects besides Spidey right now either? His next biggest thing is Uncharted and who owns that? Sony.

Even now? A few years ago there was no contest at all, sure, but now I see GA friends who all seem to know him. But then I guess all of those guys would probably have heard of Leto too.Leto is probably better known than Hardy.
Oh interesting. I didn’t realise he was a big Hardy fan and had said that about Venom.I think we can probably pretty safely assume that Tom Holland would much rather stay in the MCU, but I doubt he’s gonna rock the boat by talking smack about Sony publicly even if he’s disappointed by this development (which he probably is).
Also he wants that movie with Tom Hardy. He’s a Hardy fan and has already said he wants to be onscreen with his Venom (he was also bummed when he found out they’d both been at the same UFC fight at Madison Square Garden but he hadn’t run into him).

I have very little faith in Uncharted. No one asked for Uncharted: The Early Years (except Tom Holland, I guess), and even people who like Holland think he’s totally wrong for this. It just sounds like a whole misconceived project from inception.
I've resigned to the fact that the Uncharted movie won't be for me. Not saying it'll be trash, but as a fan of the games I don't think I'd enjoy itAt this point I don’t know how they are going to make Uncharted work. I’m not sure I’ve had this situation where a property I really want to do well casts as lead someone I really like and still manages to get it completely wrong. My expectations nosedived after that, and it’s a shame as there aren’t enough good films in this genre (would be one of my favourites if there were).I've resigned to the fact that the Uncharted movie won't be for me. I kind of see it as an error of judgement from him too. You have to go for roles that you can excelYea I worry Uncharted won’t do Holland any favors. And this Spider-Man development might not wither.
