The Amazing Spider-Man Spider-Man Gets a Set of Parents and Another Villain

Yeah, it is funny seeing people write an entire novel based on the little bit info we've received. As usual, Sony releases something about an actor, without adding their role in the film. And we go nuts with speculation, and the Sony exces. spend weeks on end laughing and pointing at the ones on SuperheroHype getting it wrong. More information will come, we just have to wait for it.

Speculating...on a superhero message board?! SAY IT AINT SO.

This is strange news indeed. But they could be just trying to **** with us and throw us off on this thing. Khan could just be another AMH sort of thing for all we know. He could just be playing some sleazebag role. Possibly a boss of Connors or someone at Norman's company.

So I guess Norman will be appearing in this then? They still have to cast the other three guys.

I don't mind the idea of the parents, just don't make it a huge thing. But who knows, it could be good. So I'll wait before I start stating what I would like to see.

I thought it would be regarded as common sense that Sony will make a big announcement as to who the villain is instead of this blink and you'll miss little tidbit that so many here have been going ape**** over.

Speculating is one thing...writing a novel sized post that states what the entire film will be (and its sequel) based on this news...is a bit crazed. :o

Scott and Nicholson (Law & Order: Criminal Intent) will be Parker’s parents, who leave their son an orphan.
I need to see a pic of these two side by side, I want to see Peter's parents made flesh. Had I not been banned from Google, Yahoo and Bing. I would look their image up myself and place it here.

Two good actors I might add.

@KAW - Urm, you've been banned from Google, Yahoo and Bing? :|

He hasn't been banned, he just cant be bothered to search himself. This has been addressed before to hilarious effect I might add.

I'd wait for confirmation until getting angry and even if there IS confirm you have no idea how this villian will be used on the big screen.

look at batman begins, the makers had the choice of using;
joker
penguin
riddler
mad hatter
clayface
poison ivy
freeze
bane

but when with carmaine falcony and ras al ghul and look how that turned out.

Why do people keep saying that Nolan went with some obscure villain in Batman Begins? It couldn't be further from the truth. Ra's Al Ghul is one of Batman's biggest enemies, and certainly more important than any in the above list aside from Joker.

They look like the Perfect Peter Parker Parents. Whatever the hell that means. I hope they have a wild love making scene...so we can really see where Spider-Man gets his moves from.

Here's my stance on things...

Ok, to those people who are thinking he might be just a minor side character...wrong. The Hollywood Reporter article specifically says that it's "another villain". Now, I liked Spidey 62's suggestion that said he might be an Bolivar Trask type person, working with Peter's dad. My theory is that he's the one who sets up their deaths. I don't think he'll become this "Proto-Goblin" creature, much like how Mendell Stromm in the first Spider-Man never became his alter ego Gaunt. I don't think it's anything to complain about.

I seriously think "Van Atter" is a codename for Curt Connors. Maybe Sony wants to make secret the villain, like Fox has keep mysterious the Kevin Bacon's villain identity (X-men: first class) for long time.

I'm starting to think that this might be true. They may be afraid of fan backlash because of the change.

Now, remember, Rhys Ifans is also playing a villain. He makes the most sense out of the two for the Lizard character. Remember what Marc Webb said in the press release?
"Rhys' incredible ability to embody both warmth and rage makes him the ideal choice for this character."

Clearly sounds like it's for Connors. Now, it COULD be for another villain too, but take into consideration the numerous Lizard rumors and this Billy Connors audition:

It just all points to the Lizard.

the likes of riddler and enguin are far more recognizable than ra's al ghul who I'm sure up until BB the general audience didn't have a clue who he was.

maybe van adder is apart of the flashback sequences that have to do with his parents? just a thought

No one knew who the hell Ra's Al Ghul was, all I kept getting was..."Who's That?" He's not even on Batman's low rent villains radar, he's an unknown to the general audience. You don't need a well known villain as long as you have Superman/Batman/Spider-Man in the film. And hopefully a good/great movie at hand.

Khan, best known for his work in Slumdog Millionaire, is playing a villain named Van Atter, joining Rhys Ifans as the movie’s bad guys. Parisse, who appeared most recently in couple of episodes of AMC’s Rubicon, will be the villain’s wife.

The question is whose wife. Is this statement saying Van Adder's wife or is Parisse being cast as Mrs. Connors. I would think Mrs. Connors; but looking at the context of the article, it almost as if they was trying to imply Van Adder's wife. So what villain are they referring to?

My guess is Annie Parisse has been cast as Martha Connors as well, but the way the article is written makes it unclear.

We'll know soon enough, I suppose...

the good thing about using lesser none villians is the villian can serve the story rather than the story being shoehorned to serve the villian. I don't have a problem with lesser known villians, I do however have a problem with made up villians (vultress) because spidey/bats/superman etc have enough villians and don't need villians being created when there is a sea of villians to chose from.

Looks like Van Atter will be Proto Goblinish after all.

From http://blog.moviefone.com/2010/12/07/spider-man-proto-goblin-irrfan-khan/

Khan doesn't seem to even know his character's name yet, but he did have this to say: "He's a character who, I think, was not in the comics or perhaps a minor character. I've read some pages, but the whole script hasn't been made available to me." On whether he's done any training: "You don't do training for action. You're waiting for action. You just strap yourself into a harness and go." So there ya go -- at least we know he'll be in a harness at some point.

'Spider-Man' hits theaters on July 3rd, 2012.

Again, this continues to be nothing more than speculation. Mendell Stromm had to harness up in SM1 so he could be thrown across a room.

The general audience didn't know who he was, but it doesn't change his importance as a character. Ra's Al Ghul is one of Batman's biggest foes, whether the general audience knew about him or not. The only reason Penguin & Riddler were more recognizable was because of the 60s TV Show. It doesn't make them more dangerous or important than Ra's.

They didn't know who Two-Face was before Batman Forever either. Does that make him a minor villain?
