Spider-Man (PS4) - Part 1

Yeah those challenge videos really don't do it justice and miss a few things. The mechanics are fairly simple, but they all add up and allow for a ton of flexibility. There's times in the game were I did nothing but traverse the city for no reason and while there are fast travel options, I never wanted to used them.

The vaulting off of ledges Spider-Man does in the gameplay looks very similar to Sunset Overdrive.

I've marked the part where he does it:

I think Sunset Overdrive would have been a success of it came out on ps4 rather than X1. It looks so fun, I'd grab an X1 just for it.

It sold over a million copies and got pretty good reviews across the board. I would consider it a success, but yes, releasing on the PS4 would mean the potential for more sales.

One thing I hope the developers improve upon is the amount of content. Sunset Overdrive was pretty short; outside of collecting stuff, I beat the game (all main and side quests and some collection hunts and races) in about 16 hours. There are three things you can do in the game outside of the story missions and few side quests:

Find/collect items (if you see it, just walk over it; no puzzles)
Challenges (races and weapon usage)
Save civilians (from either a cage or being chased by bad guys)

While it's all fun, there is definitely a lack of stuff to do. Hopefully Spider-Man fixes that problem.

For an open world game, yes., especially when you consider how little there is to do outside of the main quest.

So just to confirm, will there be alternative suits to pick from?

Yeah, they've confirmed.

I hope some of them are available from the beginning, still not a fan of the suit we've been seeing.

It's crazy to me how last week this game just had to beat the shoddy games before it, and now it has a kick-ass movie to live up to as well.

Stoked!

Possible hands-on demos as well?

On Saturday, viewers at home can see an hour of upcoming Disney games including the PlayStation 4 exclusive Spider-Man game, Kingdom Hearts III, and Star Wars: Battlefront II. The livestream will showcase new trailers, interviews, and special guests, it's unclear if D23 will get to go hands-on with all/any of these games (we imagine Battlefront II will be playable due to a playable build being featured at E3) but we'll be sure to bring you all of the latest news coming out of D23 this weekend.

Can we expect any new footage to be shown? Or will it just be variations of the segment we saw at E3?

I would hope we see something new, pretty lame if they didn't.

we'll know when they show it . I only know what they put out and tell outlets reporters. and if I'm on good term with those people and they (those out let reporters) feel like telling me .

But they'll show what those people that make the demo for the event's will show them. hopefully it some thing new. but it's still what they tell them info wise that's more important.

I'm skeptical, because while it could be new footage it could also just be a new interview according to that site.

Hopefully it is new footage but I have my doubts. No one has confirmed new footage, just that the game will be at D23 in some capacity.

They hyped up an extended gameplay demo (the E3 one but with more mobs to take down etc) so I guess that's what we get on saturday.

I highly doubt they show something new.

If we get gameplay I think that sounds likely. Of course I'm always happy to be proven wrong in cases like this. :cwink:

And Insomniac *loves* their alt outfits. Character customization was such a massive (and fun) part of Sunset Overdrive. I expect good things from their Spidey alt suits, even if I don't like their official version.

It'd be so funny if they took EVERY Spider-Man design featured in movies, games, comics, animated shows, etc etc and created a customization system for fans ala Sunset Overdrive. Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro briefly touched on the "create your own Spider-Man" but that was more in line with what the suits special abilities were.

Who are you guys hoping to show up in this game? I know I've talked about this briefly before w/everyone but I feel, given all the information we have, I really feel like no one is off the table. Insomniac is really trying to drive home something original.

I want to see

- The Lizard (my favorite villain)
- The Spot
- Tombstone
- Hobgoblin (You have to take advantage of the open world)
- The Alien Spider-Slayer would be cool too
- Smythe
- Mysterio

Those are just a few to name.

I've thought of this before!!I so seriously doubt it will happen but I would potentially faint if it became true. The possibilities would be just...

oh my god i need to sit down

So Playstation just uploaded an alternate playthrough of the Days Gone E3 2017 demo that they showed behind doors at E3.

I think the chances of getting the alternate playthrough of Spider-Man (that was shown behind closed doors at E3 2017) at D23 just went up a little.

I agree. This has become a major event in recent years, so the idea that they would show something that is currently online is hard for me to believe. I understand the different audience demo at the event and such, but I'm certain we'll see new stuff.
