Playstation Spider-Man (PS4) - Part 3

You can believe that's the reason. I'm not so sure. 'Puddle gate' demonstrated that Insomniac aren't above twisting the truth for the sake of PR.

Two other highly requested suits were the symbiote and superior suit. Insomniac were very quick to come out and say 'they won't be in this game because we feel they deserve their own story.' And that was it, people stopped requesting them. If they simply said 'there are legal issues surrounding the suit we don't wish to discuss' things would have been different. It was beginning to look like they just didn't feel like including the Raimi suit, but they were too scared to admit it.

"The game is a huge hit. It sold incredibly well. It got terrific reviews. Its been nominated for all kinds of game awards. They released two DLCs since. People are still loving and playing it. Pray tell what damage control did they need to do here by lying about this?"

I already explained. Their recent tweets may as well have said 'we'll make the suits WE want, and you'll like it.' I'll give Insomniac full credit, best Spider-man game, and great game in general, but there were a few bad moves on their part that could have very well hurt the success of a potential sequel.

Again your line of reasoning defies all logic.

The game doesn't need any more PR. Its as successful as it can get. It already has a stellar rep. There's no PR boost needed here, any more than there is a need for any damage control. If they wanted to pump their PR and make themselves look even better they could have said "Oh yes, we did it for you fans because you asked for it". That would have been a PR boost showing they listened to the fans and gave them what they wanted.

Instead they just flat out said they were always going to give it to us, rather than pretending it was because of listening to the masses. There's no valid reason to believe they are lying.

The worst part about this is that it has taken Sam Raimi's good name and has now associated him/it with toxic negativity.

Why is the suit referred to as the "webbed suit" though?

Probably legal reasons. You'd notice in Insomniac's and PlayStation's social media posts about it they never directly call it a Raimi or Maguire suit. Or use any words such as movie or trilogy to describe it.

They could make a documentary film on what it took to get this suit in the game and I'd find it hugely fascinating.

1: You can never have enough good PR. Every sale counts.
2: There are definitely areas where the game could have been better received. The suit selection is one, and I'd say close to half of the audience weren't happy about Mary Jane.

I could be wrong, but Insomniac lying is not out of the question. What looks better? Saying 'we weren't going to appease the fans, but then we finally realized it was in our best interest.' Or 'we were actually going to do it all along.'

The graphical downgrade claims are unfounded. Digital Foundry reviewed the technical aspects of the game and provided evidence of changes made in the game not congruent with any downgrade.

You seem to be forgetting or undermining the importance of one fact. Insomniac was unable, most likely to due legal reasons, to say anything regarding the Raimi suit. Even as much of an explanation of the very legal reasons themselves were not allowed. There's no reason to think they would lie. They were upfront about the symbiote suit, superior suit and even the Miles suits because there was nothing to prohibit them. But that right there shows they're willing to divulge information. Cause honestly they are within their own right not to say anything at all...especially when giving out the info on those suits is a spoiler for upcoming games.

And the Tweet to which you're referring, I see no entitlement on Insomniac's part. That tweet was an honest, direct statement in response to people trying to make claims that Insomniac wasn't listening.

So my first major cutscene with the Raimi suit was during the apartment fire, where Spider-Man saves May and Miles. It looked wonderful in motion, they did a great job with the details. Perfect unintentional homage to the scene in the first movie where Spider-Man and Green Goblin fight in a burning building.

Why is the suit referred to as the "webbed suit" though?

I played the game a little bit earlier...just doing free roam and some bases, but yeah, the Raimi suit looks fantastic.

The worst part about this is that it has taken Sam Raimi's good name and has now associated him/it with toxic negativity.

I'd watch that documentary too.

But I really don't think this is somehow souring Raimi's good name. It's not a detractor from the greatness of the first two Spider-Man movies, imo.

1. If that was the case, then they would be saying they did because the fans asked for it. But they aren't. They have nothing to gain by saying they always intended to include it. But saying they did because the fans wanted it makes them look like a company that listens to their consumer demands. Again logic.
2. There's always areas that can be improved on in any product that is really well received. The Arkham games had several areas that needed improvement, but it didn't hinder their mega success.

Insomniac lying about this isn't logical. They have nothing to gain by it. Saying they did it because the fans wanted it, that would be something to gain. But they didn't say that. So there is no reason to think this is a big fat fib.

I really hate how Insomniac's only solution to introduce difficulty in this game, is to throw everything including the kitchen sink at you. It makes combat just not fun anymore, when you have to dodge bullets, rockets, fists and goons with jetpacks in the span of 2 seconds.

You're just repeating yourself now. As I already explained, saying they intended to do it all along sounds better than admitting they were ignoring the request up until this point. When they tweeted: 'listening doesn't mean following,' that could easily be interpreted as intentionally ignoring the request. But hey, maybe they really were planning it all along. Either way, I thought the Raimi meme campaign was funny, and I don't think the people requesting the suit were out line (except for a few death threats and obscenities.) If it was a struggle for Insomniac to include the suit, they may have given up without the Raimi campaign behind it.

The Arkham series did lose money for some of the decisions made by Rocksteady. They also gained money by listening to many fan requests. Insomniac too owes some of its current success to appeasing the fans.

I’m actually kinda relieved the Raimi series ended when it did, I don’t think I could handle this kind of scene

If I have to repeat myself, its because you keep repeating the same baseless theories. Your chosen interpretation of their tweets is just that. Your own interpretation. There's only one way you can interpret a tweet that says they had been planning the Raimi suit from the get-go. There's no other way to interpret that other than what it says. They have no logical reason to lie. There is nothing to be gained by lying. There is no damage control required on their part over this. You're making blind leaps and assumptions based on nothing. It doesn't even make sense from a theoretical standpoint.

The Arkham games did not lose any significant money based on any decisions that Rocksteady made. If you are going to claim they did, then post the proof along with it. Rocksteady listened to fans. Insomniac did listen to fans, too. But not regarding the Raimi suit. That was always happening, whether fans asked for it or not. Its certainly not the first suit they gave us that fans never asked for. Fan favorite or not.

Too many entitled ungrateful people. A $60 game was advertised, never mentioning to include this 1 suit, and you decided to buy.

You are not entitled to anything more.

Not even 1 out of the 3 suits I wanted the most made it in (Future Foundation, Sensational, Superior) but I'm grateful they created an exceptional game.

People are complaining that if it WAS kept a secret this whole time, that they didn't communicate right. What were they supposed to do, say Sony/Colombia movie license haven't been approved? That would be throwing their partner under the bus.

All the crying even started before all the DLC suits were even completelt revealed. What a bunch of spoiled babies. Equivalent of a crying child who demands their christmas gift in November.

Just saw this video with the rami suit and like spiderman 1-3 music that I thought was cool.

I think the Raimi suit makes it 38.

I think you are right I think the game had 27 before any thing was added and I think one other suit came out in a patch + this one to get it to 29 and than 9 more from getting 3 in each of the 3 dlcs.

Insomniac Games Confirms That The Raimi Suit For MARVEL'S SPIDER-MAN Had Been In The Works For Months
After a long time Insomniac Games has finally released the clamoured "Raimi suit" for Marvel's Spider-Man, which had been in the works for months and its release had nothing to do with fans begging for it.Read more

Marvel's Spider-Man
was released on the 7th of September after what seemed to be an eternity, and fans of the web-headed superhero could finally experience one of the best video games in the superhero genre.

Developer Insomniac Games managed to squeeze in a myriad of references to previous games based on Marvel's iconic superhero, as well as some very nice references to the Spider-Man movies that have released over the years. Not only did Insomniac Games add a bunch of references, since they also included a very generous bunch of suits for Spider-Man to wear; in what has become some sort of a tradition for Spider-Man games in general.

One thing that fans soon realised, however, was that Marvel's Spider-Man featured a bunch of suits from the comics and the latest movies from Marvel Studios that the superhero has appeared in, but there was no sign of the classic Spider-Man suit from the critically acclaimed Spider-Man movies directed by Sam Raimi.

The lack of the "Raimi Suit" in Marvel's Spider-Man made a bunch of fans go on a begging spree; asking Insomniac Games to add the suit to the game pretty much every time the developer revealed new DLC. Today, Insomniac Games finally revealed that the "Raimi Suit"(now officially called Webbed Suit) was becoming available for free.

As it turns out, however, Insomniac Games adding the Webbed Suit had little to nothing to do with fans constantly asking for them to add the suit to Marvel's Spider-Man; as James Stevenson, Community Director at Insomniac Games, replies to a Tweet by Greg Miller clarifying that the suit had actually been in the works for months—even before the base game released—but they couldn't reveal it just yet since the developer wanted to release this specifically for the Holidays.

It really is an interesting turn of events, and it is kind of sad that fans were that vocal about the Raimi Suit not being in Marvel's Spider-Man, when Insomniac Games had it planned all along; they were just waiting for the perfect time to release it.

Yup. Today's release was ultimately in the works for MONTHS and started before the base game even released.

But as you note, due to the complexity, we could say absolutely nothing. Greg Miller on Twitter

So, what's everybody's final verdict on the 3 DLC Episodes? I'd probably rate it 6/10 overall. For the most part it felt really lackluster. MJ and even Miles got way too annoying, Screwball is my most hated gaming character in the last 10 years, don't even think I hated anyone this much before. Combat lacks any fun, because the game throws whole armies at you, and in order to get away unscathed you have to throw your whole arsenal at them, which just turns everything into utter chaos and doesn't make me feel like Spider-Man anymore, I'm Gadget-Man. And I really don't care for what they did with Hammerhead.

Literally the only good thing that came out of this was Black Cat and maybe 2-3 suits I actually like to use.

I missed out on sleep last night playing around in the Raimi suit. It really is fantastic. I was listening to Elfman’s score while swinging around the city in it and I got incredibly nostalgic. It’s definitely in my top three suits now.

In the meantime I downloaded the Silver Lining DLC so it’s all ready for me to play when I get home from work later. After I beat that I’ll probably give New Game Plus a try.

I've only completed the Heist at 100% so far but I rated that one 6.5 so if the other two aren't any better then I'm probably gonna end up giving it around the same score as you. I'm currently about 40% of the way thru Turf Wars. I don't hate Screwball as much as you or what seems to be the entire Internet lol. Yes her voice is the epitome of annoying but the challenges themselves are not nearly as difficult as Taskmaster imo. I found myself laughing at the absurdity of her rather than wanting to throw my controller. That said, she's still quite annoying but at the same time her gameplay was honestly a nice break up from the rest of the story.

I totally agree with you about the difficulty. Insomniac's idea of making things more difficult isn't about a greater challenge imo it just makes Spider-Man feel weaker which is not my cup of tea.

What difficulty setting do you use? I stick with spectacular. It has just the right amount of challenge for me but also keeps it so Spidey is able to whoop ass when I get into a rhythm. I found Ultimate to be annoying though I'm gonna use Ultimate on my NG+ playthrough to get the trophy.

Edit: I absolutely loved Felicia and it looks like she makes a return in Silver Lining :ilv:

Insomniac Confirms That MARVEL'S SPIDER-MAN Will Not Feature THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Movies' Suits

While, after much fan intervention, the iconic Sam Raimi Spider-Man suit was recently added to Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man; James Stevenson, who serves as the Community Director for the studio, recently confirmed that neither of the suits from Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man movies will be added.

Following the Raimi suit's addition to the game, Stevenson revealed that it took months of effort on the studio's part. We can only speculate as to why the TASM suits won't feature in the game, however the amount of time and effort required is likely at least a factor.

The first Amazing Spider-Man suit is arguably one of the least popular incarnations of the outfit, while its follow-up is one of the most popular - but nevertheless; we won't be swinging around Insomniac's NYC suited up as such anytime soon - perhaps in Marvel's Spider-Man's sequel.

No

What do you think of Stevenson's comments? Would you like the TASM suits to feature in Marvel's Spider-Man 2?

Her challenges are not difficult, but I'd rather redo some of Taskmaster's annoying challenges, than have to deal with Screwball's bs. She's basically just an annoying Youtuber, but at least I can ignore them when I am on Youtube. I don't really have that option here when I want to unlock all the suits. The character is so grating on my nerves, that I intentionally fail all the photobombs for additional points. I just spam R1 as soon as I can, to save those precious seconds so can get out of the challenges faster.

Honestly, I am on the default difficulty, Amazing. But it's still a pain in the ass when I have to dodge 5 different incoming attacks. And the jetpack enemies seem to be so fast, that I barely have time to react. I'd see my Spider-sense go off, and immediately after I'd already get tackled by an enemy that was off-screen. Then of course that screws up my whole timing, my web-shooters are malfunctioning, 2 rockets are locked on to me and a fat guy is right on top of me, ready to stomp my head into the ground.

Overall the entire DLC felt like a chore to play through. I actually hope that Insomniac is done now and will only release the occasional new suit. I want them to put all of their energy into the sequel, instead of giving us another mediocre season of Story DLCs.

And I just got destroyed by a single jetpack enemy... I'm so ****ing done with this.

Wow. I won't argue with you about Screwball. Although I don't get the same amount of hate towards her I can totally understand how many people do hate her and with a passion. I also find the youtube trolls annoying so it makes sense to me that people are gonna hate her. I think that was Insomniac's intention but maybe they took it a little too far lol.

Hrm. Not sure what to say about the combat. I remember you posted a video on here a while ago with you taking on a sable base and you seemed to be able to kick ass just fine. I dunno. I find the combat in the dlc to be challenging at times but so far it hasn't been too much to handle. It gets crowded for sure though.

I don't know what it is, but enemies in the DLC, at least to me, are more annoying than anything I faced in the main game. Maybe it's because the timing of their attacks is slightly off. For example...

Spoiler, since you are still on the 2nd DLC.

Silver Sable destroyed me the first time I fought her. Her timing was different from everything I encountered before and because it threw my timing off, I couldn't recover from her relentless assault.
