Playstation Spider-Man (PS4) - Part 3

Went and saw Into the Spider-Verse today. Excellent movie. I'd just like to point out that the MJ in that movie had maybe 60 seconds worth of screen time and even with that small a role she trumps the hell out of the MJ in this game.

Even though game-verse MJ was a big help and actually DID stuff? Seriously, that's my only minor complaint about the movie: MJ was just in for fan service and for Peter B.'s subplot for a second. She otherwise might as well not been in the movie. Aunt May was a LOT more of a help win the movie than MJ was.

So I'm playing Silver Lining and, after having done Screwballs challenges, I came to a conclusion.

I don't hate her. In fact, I have absolutely nothing against her. I don't even find her annoying. Maybe I developed some kind of resistance to her lingo and screeches, I don't know.

What I truly, utterly, absolutely HATE...are her challenges. And because I'm a masochist and have to get every single medal that's available, the fact that we need to get those photobombs to get a perfect score is maddening. The game doesn't help when it throws so much crap at you at the same time from everywhere and you have to attract this madness to a particular spot to get the points. If you're quick and strategic enough, of course, or you'll either die or lose by timeout.
The Taskmaster combat challenges approached fun territory. Screwballs' not only approaches frustrating territory, it camps and sleeps there.

I'm fine with the character, it's the way the challenges were made that infuriates me.

So I think the first 2 dlc where like 7 out of 10 type and I am only about half way threw dlc 3 but I think at least so far its better like more like a 8 out of 10. The main game though was like a 9 out of 10.

Helping the hero win and being the active action heroine doesnt by itself make a good character. The ps4 MJ is a good example of that.

As for Spider-verse, it isnt really MJ's story. It's Miles' and Peter's. So MJ is a periphery character and naturally, we get just the periphery. With the screentime she got, I think they did a very classy job. Mainly with how
she was strong enough to divorce Peter after they couldnt agree on having a child, and giving a public speech after Peter's death

Ps4 MJ gets plenty of screentime and it doesnt do her any favors

I admit I may have done a dive off Avengers Tower while playing What’s Up Danger to recreate the scene from Spider-verse.

About 70% through Silver Lining, this is the best installment of the DLC so far definitely.

Doc Ock and the Raimi suit just feels so right.

I know. I wish there was a way you could have worn it in the final fight so you’d get the half torn mask.

Finished all the DLC. Was very meh on it in terms of quality. No where near as good as the base game. I'd probably give it maybe a 6/10 total. I will say I do think that it does leave Peter in an interesting place that'll be really good for what the sequel is probably going to end up doing. Excited to see what they do with some stuff.

I think it was a mistake to divide it into three small parts, it would've been better as one large expansion where all the characters interact with each other more.

DLC Yuri spoiler: They should've left Yuri the way she was after the main story. If they desperately wanted to possibly add a new villain with emotional ties with Peter, they should've slowly built this anti-hero vigilante Yuri throughout the sequel.

The friendly banter will be gone. She's a criminal now.

As for Screwball, I didn't mind her this time around. The challenges in the 1st 2 DLCs were pretty easy to Ultimate. It was a little more challenging this time around. It's almost like 2 developers made this game though... what was the point of Taskmaster if they were just gonna do Screwball challenges? I get that his story will be in the sequel, but gameplay-wise, he's also Screwball.

Yeah, taken as a whole this dlc is pretty great imo, a lot of nice story beats and hints at the future. Just a nice addition to the main game.

I ended up liking Silver Lining more than I thought I would. The conclusion was pretty satisfying but I'll agree that this could've been better perceived as a one piece of content, instead of three.
I think they just wanted to keep you playing for a longer period of time.

I'd give it a 7, though. The difficulty was kinda wonky and they lost balance of how to present the challenge. I also don't like how they transformed Hammerhead into Silvermane, but overall it was a fun DLC.

A funny thing: in the post credit scene I was wearing the Into The Spider-Verse suit. I didn't know what we were getting so it felt perfect.

Oh my God these underground Hammerhead Sable caches are a *****! They throw everything and the kitchen sink at you.

I hate using non web gadgets, but the main way I beat the first one was spamming spider drones with the nanomesh suit power.

Those tech suits are the absolute worst. It's easier to take on Fisk and Demon thugs on Ultimate difficulty than it is to fight the Hammerhead goons with Sable tech on Amazing difficulty. They're way too OP.

Just finished first dlc now heading into second. Glad I waited to do them until they all were released as it seems they are all connected.

Just have the last mission to do for Silver Lining, got everything else finished. Nice little thing saved to do soon for Christmas Eve night!

Overall I found these satisfying, but I'm sure it all would have been better taken together at the same time. Interactions with Black Cat in the first part was a highlight, not much stood out for me in the 2nd part, maybe the visits to the bar with no name, all the Sable stuff has been a lot of fun in the 3rd part. She has been great in this game and I'm glad they're giving her more to do both with story and in gameplay. I've enjoyed how this has been taking where things ended in the main game and pushing them along a little further for when it gets picked up in the inevitable sequel.

Just beat the last dlc still need to do some side stuff on dlc 2 and 3 more on 2 and if I can find like the last 3 sercert photos to. At some point in time I need to do a new game + playthrew still and also I may play dlc 1-3 again like in a row now that they are all out and there is no waiting for the next part. DLC 3 was a lot better than 1 or 2 just more interesting side missions and gameplay over all than 1 or 2.

I just completed the Scales of Justice missions. They were good, liked what they're doing with...

Yuri. Now this may seem completely ridiculous, but I think I'd like to see Yuri become this universe's Punisher. It certainly feels like seeds are being planted for it.

Yuri becomes a vigilante called 'Wraith.' Making her the Punisher would be ridiculous.

Yeah I am about the same. I enjoyed the story elements, all the added audio bits and pieces, but the new game play additions were a mixed bag. I grew tired of the challenges and bases, and some of the new enemy types were just irritating to fight.

On the brighter side, some of my favourite things to do were the relatively "low effort" side quests with great voice-work like collecting the paintings for Hardy's con-man dad. I hope Insomniac continue to be inventive like this, and hopefully add more variety to the game play loop.

Agreed 100%. This would have been better served that way. The 3 pieces feel really thin; the stories truncated, the side content repetitive. As one chunk I think certain plot-lines could have crossed over and some things would have had a better chance to breathe. Turf Wars suffered the most, offering no pay-off to Black Cat and then cutting off abruptly.

Yes. I didn't really understand the Screwball hatred, in fact I thought she was at least more interesting than Taskmaster. I get it now though. The challenges became insufferable. I won't deny I gleefully swung over to her location when they were done, looking for a little pay-back. What was I greeted with? A high speed chase with a medley of those torturous challenges. I was in disbelief, sure someone at Insomniac was trolling me.

I collected all base tokens... before these new ones. 100 hit streaks are hard to come by with so many cheap shotting b*stards.

Agreed. Yuri's turn wasn't given its due. That said, I'm mildly disappointed with it, nothing more. There's plenty to look forward to. And the #BlackRaimiSuit movement as well.
