Didn't sites reporting from the E-Mails say Sony was in creative control but Marvel would co-produce three new Spider-Man films. Wasn't the current deal broken off?

It's Latino Review guys

Meh. Latino Review is wrong lots of times, but they are also right lots of times.

***Breaking***

Did some digging around the net about the E-Mails and found Sonys release slate which includes dates for upcoming films even if they don't have names...

Looks like a female spin off is just rumour to come out in 2017 but S6 is out November 2016 and ASM3 at a TBC date in 2018.

i think that was already known...

I just remembered America dates are different from us Brits haha!

What is this Spidey summit of which people speak? Are Sony (and someone else?) meeting about the character to discuss the way forward?

According to one of the leaks, there is gonna be a meeting amongst the Sony Executives about what to do with the franchise. Sony japan in a previous leak mentioned how the offer from Marvel was "still on the table".

In my opinion, if the offer is "still on the table," it's heavily being considered. They're just not going to admit that yet for obvious reasons.

If Sony were to dismiss this idea, they could have done it a long time ago. That's why I'm almost positive it will happen.

I think the audience would flip if there was a spider man cameo in CW in the post credits.

If Marvel tried to get the character, they already have a script that includes him. Regardless as I said early Quicksilver was added into DOFP less than a year prior to release. CW still have 17 months before it's release, compare that to 25 months between SM1 and SM2.

Oh to be there at the midnight showing with all of the other geeks there. Amazing.

best one of those moments I've ever had was James Marsden in DOFP, my god everyone gave a standing ovation when he grabs Wolverine from out of the frame! GOD I LOVE MY FELLOW GEEKS!!!

My favorite moment was the Samuel L Jackson 'Avengers' initiative after Iron-Man.

That was AMAZEBALLS.

I think a deal that is similar to what happened with the Incredible Hulk between Marvel Studios and Universal Studios and what happened with the Indiana Jones IP between Lucasfilm, Walt Disney Pictures, and Paramount Pictures, but more beneficial to Sony Pictures.

While Universal Studios was a simple distributor for the Incredible Hulk and collected a distribution fee of 15% or less while Marvel Studios fronted the production budget, Sony Pictures would be a full production partner assuming 40% - 50% of the project and keep distribution rights in key territories such as North America and other English speaking territories, Japan, South Korea, etc. through their Columbia Pictures banner. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment would also keep home video and VOD distribution rights in key territories. And just like with Indiana Jones, Sony Pictures keeps full rights to previous films

Marvel Studios would assume full creative control of the Spider-Man character in perpetuity and assume 50% - 60% as a production partner. The biggest reason why Marvel Studios' films have been successful, especially in the Phase 2 set of films is because Marvel Entertainment has had full control of the characters it is making films on, not some other studio like 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures, or Walt Disney Pictures. And in order for Spider-Man to fully sync with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios would need full creative control. This means no more studio heads like Amy Pascal or corporate heads like Kaz Hirai interfering with the Spider-Man character the way they have in the past.

The Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group would assume marketing rights to future Spider-Man films and assume distribution rights in lesser international territories. The marketing division in Sony Pictures is pretty much a joke while the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group has really marketed the hell not only with Marvel films such as the Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Iron Man 3, and Guardians of the Galaxy, but other properties too like Frozen, Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent, Toy Story, etc. They are a marketing juggernaut and would do a far better job at making the film successful than Sony Pictures would. Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment would be able to bundle future Spider-Man films.

Disney Consumer Products keeps the merchandising and licensing rights to the Spider-Man IP as Sony Pictures has previously relinquished those rights. Disney-ABC Domestic Television and ABC Studios keep the television rights as Sony Pictures has also relinquished those previously.

Thank you. That's a much more eloquent and detailed explanation of exactly the deal I've been saying they should make for a while! It seems insanely obvious. As long as Marvel Studios has creative control, the films will increase in quality and box office. It's more money for BOTH Sony & Marvel Studios/Disney! It's win-win! It's win-win-win if you include the fans! :woot:

Audiences will flip because they won't even know he's a character that has ever co-existed with the likes of Cap, Thor, etc.

Sony keeps it going any longer and he'll be labeled a nothing character.

i hope the people from Sony japan see it that way too

I would hope that the Sony Japanese executives are seeing how badly the mismanaged Sony Pictures is damaging the Sony name as a whole. In the wake of these leaks, something needs to be done from up top. It is a legitimate crisis.
