It won't do a Superman Return , that movie was just long and boring , I'm guessing more like a X-Men Last Stand

 I'm an xmen fan, but you do know that none of them have crossed the 300 mark domestic right?

WRONG

We all know Spiderman 3 is gonna own Pirates 3 and everything else at the box office next Summer. Some more good news is Aliens vs Predator 2 has been delayed till Winter 07. AVP2 is not threat as far as beating Spiderman 3 at the box office but it is another action sci-fi movie that might lure a portion of the fans away from seieng Spiderman 3 a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th time to see it instead. Bye AVP! Thank God!

I´ll say this, Spidey 3 right now has the best spot of next summer... It will open the season and have two weeks for itself, while Shrek3 and Potc3 will have to fight pretty much face-to-face, one of the two may take a blow... Unless one chickens out, which is what WB should have done with SR...

I really feel bad for the superman returns movie. It had such great potential but turned out to be just good. I hope it doesnt hinder the chance of a sequel I think they were very close to greatness

i agree with you. i was nt crazy about the movie but i still hope that they make a sequel. the movie looked visually awesome but i thought the story could have been much better.

Good point... you look at the time table when SM1 was released... half a year after 9/11... it was just a feel good story... it was an anomaly though... Superhero movies don't bring in that much... there was a noticable drop off in SM2... SM3 will hover around the SM2 numbers but breaking the top five and pulling in close to 900 million is just way out of reach... I think the movies are a bit overrated too...

..... " Superhero movies don't bring in that much ?? " ...

probably depends on the superhero character .

DC has two big cookies working for it ( Superman And Batman)
-aside from those two there's no one else they really can sell...

however Marvel has had a cast of blockbuster hits -primarily from their
biggest, most popular guns - Spiderman, Xmen , Fantastic Four and the Hulk with these individual films going into sequels and spinoffs .
( despite the Hulk being an mediocre film to me)

..... and the earlier Blade and Daredevil films did have some success as well - which of course is paving the way for the likes of future hits like
Ghost Rider, Iron Man and Thor.

along with the Pirates, Harry Potter, Shrek and Pixar animations - the superhero films are very much in demand and hot on the market, IMO.

88 mil opening weekend because Spider-man 2 opened on like a Wednesday so a large portion of Spider-man 's biggest fans had already seen it before the weekend even got there , Spider-man 2 had already made 64 mil before that first weekend , so it's "conceivable" that if Spider-man 2 had waited till Friday to open it would have made close to 152 mil it's first weekend

that's the truth

POTC was a good movie, that's all it was. Nothing more. It wasn't as good as the first one, which means the opening weekend for the third one won't be as good. Even if the opening weekend from the third one beats $132M, SM3's opening weekend will still humble those numbers! Guaranteed!

After seeing the movie, I can now say that POTC2 is gonna be heavily frontloaded. $350M max.

Ask ANY kid in this world which movie they would rather see, POTC 3 or Spider-Man 3? They'll say SM3, guaranteed. I almost wish POTC 3, Shrek 3, and SM3 all came out on the same weekend so Spider-Man can massacer them and give them both the beatings they deserve for daring to step up as contenders.

Seeing as how SM1 made only $200 less per theater than POTC2, and it got released 4 years ago, taking into account rising prices and population and POTC2 was actually a sequel to a good movie and SM1 was not a sequel, it's a given the record will be be broken. I'm predicting a $160M. And that's just based on it being Sm3 alone and before factoring in Venom.

How can ANYONE in their right mind say that after seeing X3 get so close to breaking opening weekend record? And Spider-Man sorta has a trend of making almost twice! the money X-men movies bring in. Spider-Man has a HUGE fanbase, BIGGER than that of X-Men, with the SAME director at the helm, unlike X3, you're almost guaranteed a good movie, which means ALL the records are going to be broken.
if X3 made $45M opening on a FRI and Sm2 made $40M opening on a wednesday, imagine the damage Sm3 will do opening on a friday!! I'm thinking somewhere around $60M, and THAT is a realistic prediction.

If SM2 had kept it's original opening date in early May, it would've BEAT Sm1's gross. but it got released in the midst of all the summer competition and still held it's own.

Add the fact that SM3 has MORE action, and is featuring spider-man's most POPULAR, FAN-FAVORITE villain, with Venom and one of the best storylines with the symbiote.

In May next year, Box Office history will be rewritten. Mark my words.

My friend, You are insane.

Titanic was in theatres 9 months lol

Titanic was out for so long because people didn't stop going to see it until its 7 or 8 months after it came out. It was number one at the box office for 15 straight weeks and it didn't even drop out of the top ten until its 26th week in release.

Just look at Titanic's box office numbers in the link below:

http://www.the-numbers.com/movies/1997/TITAN.html

Looks like a little too early for such a thread but i think it will do great!

It will be huge no matter how the film turns out I am sure.

Well I predict that the movie is going to make a lot of money, money that I will never see or get to spend. Which is a damn shame.

On a more serious note, it might be too early to start predicting box office numbers. Does anybody know how close Spider-Man 3 and Pirates 3 open to each other? That might be the deciding factor.

I changed my mind and box office predictions.

Opening Day: $50m

Opening Weekend: $115m

Domestic: $386m

Foreign: $419m

Worldwide: $805m
