The Avengers Spidey in the Avengers?

I, for one, would love to have Spider-Man show up in The Avengers, but I've come to terms with the fact that it's just not going to happen in the foreseeable future.

how about wolverine? does sony also own the rights to the character? an avengers with spidey, wolverine, and thanos in it has a great chance of breaking the 2 billion mark

I half-expected a scene in Captain America, where the Allies disembark on Normandy. The boat hits the shore. Cap is looking at the beach, then he turns to see his troops. James Howlett stands there, among the other Joes, sideburns, cigar and all, and he just nods at Cap and says something like "After you, bub!"

Ha if only.

It makes more business sense to keep the franchises separate though. There is only so much of an upside you can get by adding a major character onto another major movie franchise; it's not like TA box office intake would be automatically doubled if Spider Man was in there too. The audience that will see the Avengers will likely consist of the same people that will see Spider Man, so unless you can somehow convince the theatre chains to double ticket prices because Spider Man or Wolverine joined the Avengers, you're better off keeping the franchises separate, and having the same people pay multiple times for different cinematic experiences.

Besides, one bad movie a la Green Lantern could pose the risk of wiping out the commerical viability of two or more franchises at once.

exactly

As much as I would love Spidey and Wolvie together on screen, I've made my peace that it'll never happen.

With the mountain of money that Avengers has made, I wouldn't be surprised if Disney is either contemplating some type of crossover idea or if they're thinking about trying in the near future to regain some of the licenses.

I wouldn't mind seeing spidey in a avengers movie but like I said before I don't think it will happen anytime soon. Andrew Garfield is signed on for 3 spidey films and if for some reason they did let spidey be in a avengers film, they would have a hell of a time trying to connect Amazing Spider Man with Avengers.

Exclusive: Spider-Man Producers, Avi Arad and Mathew Tolmach, Teases Avengers Crossover

...At Comic-Con last summer, Arad was asked if he would consider allowing Spider-Man to appear in an Avengers movie. At the time Arad insisted there were enough Spider-Man stories to keep him separate. Now that The Avengers is such a phenomenon, he is even open to considering making a deal between Sony’s Spidey and Disney’s Avengers. He says he thought of the Venom crossover possibility independently of Avengers though.

“Everything is possible,” Arad said. “If something like that happens, it’s great for Disney, it’s great for Sony. If the right story comes in, we are now working on Venom first. It’s our first out. So our thinking is in the right direction. Avengers to me was an expected success so I never looked at it because Avengers was successful.”

As I wrote yesterday: Arad is a huge idiot. This (hopefully) will never happen.

Yeah, what a ****. "No they'll never be connected... Oh wait, Avengers is the biggest Marvel film ever made? I SUPPOSE we could allow the two to be connected."

We don't want the Sony Spidey connected to the MCU, we want an MCU Spidey, full stop.

That's what I want, as well, but given the iron gripe that Sony has kept with this franchise, even went as far as planning a Venom solo movie so it can help extend the movie rights of the Spider-Man, make me believe that a MCU Spider-Man probably won't happen in another 25 years or so, or until Sony went bankrupted.

Meh, don't really care if Arad is flipping on this issue, we already know that money is always the motivating factor. I'd be for TASM being tied in with the MCU, though I'd keep him off of The Avengers as a team member.

No way. If Sony screw up Spidey again, I don't want him connected to the great work Marvel are doing, in anyway at all. If he's going to be connected to the MCU, I want Marvel in creative control.

I've always thought a deal could be reached but it might not be in the best interest. It will be hard to fit them into the same universe without creating a paradox on the timeline. Also Spidey works best as a solo act.

I haven't been following it a lot, but I like what I'v seen from TASM. I think Garfield is going to be much better than Toby and the tone looks to be a little more serious. This version of Spidey would probably fit OK into the current MCU.

I was just about to post this link...

If even Oscorp can be snuck in The Avengers, then there must be a deal or some talk, at least, between Marvel and Sony, right? I'm guessing both movies will seem open-ended enough to include each other, if it ever will happen. It probably won't but at least there's a possibility.

Even Avi Arad noted the possibility. It's not a guarantee or a good chance but...still.

Sony going broke is probably going to ask like 40% of the whole movie gross if they were to "lend" Spidey to Disney. Not going to happen.

I just don't want this to happen unless they replace that god awful Garfield suit with something more faithful to the source.

Personally I hope it does not happen because everyone in The Avengers was perfectly cast, but imo Garfield is a long way from the perfect PP/SM.

agree completely...

You haven't even seen the movie yet, how do you know if Garfield is going to be a good Spidey or not. You're just like those people who said Evans would be a horrible Cap before they even saw the movie.

I would love to see Garfield's Spidey in the Avengers, as I think he looks to be my ideal Peter Parker (and the critics seem to think he's pretty great so far too), but it's just not happening.

I can only hope and cross my fingers that no incarnation of Spider-Man ever joins the Avengers, team or world, or otherwise.

Yeah, even in the comics I'm not wild about SM being part of any team, even the Avengers. There's no purpose to be served, from either a creative or business perspective, from having Spider Man enter the MCU.
