World Spidey Suits & Suit Creation methods. - Part 1

Ok, continuing with the photo update :)

Here are the gloves which cannot be sewn by a machine, and I'm kinda too lazy to try to sew them myself so I decided to try and glue them and later maybe strenghten some areas by sewing.

Started to glue them piece by piece. The glue seems to be very strong :)

And here is one hand done, soon the other one followed :) not too bad.. Considering there will also be shading and pattern over it, it's great :)

Next, the pattern on the mask! I've thought of the easiest but very long-lasting process of applying where the pattern will go... I've made a hexagonal pattern in photoshop, turned my screen to make it like an improvised table, spread the fabric over it and started to follow the pattern piece by piece.. took a few hours :)

A closer look on what I was doing.. actually just dotting the crossings between shapes, so later i connected them with a thin marker to see exactly where the puff paint will go.

Continuing in the next post...

So, continuing...

Here it is, the finished pattern lines :)

Next I decided to stick with the shading since I will try to follow the movie suit al closely as possible :)
I put the mask on the dummy, covered the eyes and neck area (because it shriveled so the spray paint would just make a mess, but I did it seperately) with tape and started to spray paint carefully. The picture shows work in progress :)

And finally, the puff paint! Started with the neck until I got the hang of it.. in case I made some mistakes it would be the least visible area :)

I've decided to put the mask on the dummy after all. Wasn't that hard to work on it and I figured if I let it dry on it, it would more or less take the shape of the head :)

And some details from the mask pattern.. all in all it took me few days to finish the red pattern, worked a few hours a day as I had time and as the paint dried.

I've finished the red parts of the mask and I'm currently applying the black webbing. It's really starting to look more and more awesome!
I will update sometime soon as I finish the webbing. Hopefully the tailor will be done with the suit tomorrow so I can start working on that too!

Haha thanks a lot guys! :D That's just bonus motivation! :)
I can't wait to continue working on it all the time... waiting for it to dry is a drag xD

Ah ok, anyway any costuming updates from you, @Brad ??

Yeah..ok.. I made this one a little while back.

Brad.

I think I remember that Amazing Spiderman Brad. Is that when Sony commission you to make the suit for the 2011 Comic-Con and are you selling the Miles Morale suit

Hey Brad, how much does a simple mask of yours go for? And full suit?

Final update regarding the mask, it's done!

Here it is folded on the desk, flash doesn't do it justice but it's ok.

And from the back, with the zipper.

I've added (glued) some sponges under the eyes because I realized that the glasses were starting to get foggy from the breathing.. this actually helps prevent the air reaching them :)

And a few shots while wearing the mask, of course :D

There was a small 'bump' in the middle of the forehead, from the sewing I guess... You can see fow I folded it and glued it to the fabric so it doesn't stick out like a horn anymore.

That's all for now.. I've got a lot of studying waiting for me, so it may be few weeks until I start working on the main suit and the gloves :/ So no updates for now. Hope you like this so far!

:spidey:

WOW, Well Done @SpiderAlex, anyway i have just one critic about your mask, why the zipper ?? I think its needless. Anyway, good Job !!

You can see in some of the first posts I wrote when I started to work on it... I've ordered two skin-suits from Ebay.. since here in Croatia there are no shops that can print on big pieces of fabric, so I couldn't completely create my own suit from pieces. And those skin-suits have zippers on the back.. I don't think it's much of a problem, although I would prefer a zipper under an armpit or somewhere else.. since I can feel the suit getting very tense if I make some sudden big moves, especially around the zipper.

Where did you get the suits? Like a website?

Ebay dude :) Here's an example, but there are many sellers there, just compare prices and see what each one of them offers (some offer detachable masks, gloves, feet and some don't) : http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=261039288124&var=560128065667#ht_2553wt_1396
This one seemed to offer the most options and wasn't too expensive.

I recomend looking around what each of them offer on their websites also because I came across some already made spidey spandex suits :) They're not the best looking ones, but if you're not too picky they're also good :D

Who told you that? What is his name? I want it.

Anyway, even I was told it was a hoax. Something about the shadow on the wall behind me... who knows? Oh, the good ol' internet. I've still got the physical patterns tucked away under the bed. I'll pull them out & show you how I did mine. It's kinda old school though. I made the entire outfit out of white lycra and then stood in the mirror and drew the delineation between the red and blue with a water soluble marker. Then I cleaned up the lines, cut the suit apart and made polystyrene tracing patterns out of the pieces to draw on the colored lycra. I was really trying to create something that a high school kid with limited budget could do (without all the dye-sub, cnc routed web molds, etc.).

That's actually my favorite part of the whole suit. I'll pull it out (might be this weekend) and snap some pics. If you're looking to do a multi-piece suit I think this is pretty cool... :cwink:
Hey @Brado, where's the pics ???

Hey @Brado, where's the pics ???

Sorry, my PS3 YLOD'ed last week. I had to spend 4 hours this weekend dinkin' around with taking it all the way down to the motherboard, reflowing the solder & repasting the chips. Upside is that I got it working long enough to get a full backup off of it. Downside is that it didn't last much longer than that. Couple that with EVERYONE in the house having a cold and it hasn't exactly been a productive weekend.

Haven't forgotten about you though... :yay:

ah, okay, cant wait to see more from you, man. Btw, & what about your photobucket ?? is there other pics of your suit in there ??

I gotta buy a Spidey suit soon.

Want to use it for Halloween, conventions and visiting kids in the hospital.
