Spiral: From The Book Of Saw

They've said it's not a reboot, just a spin-off. I'm not sure how it's not a sequel, though. Could be they're just trying to sell it as something new so that people can forget the last ones.

Ala Halloween?

Keep the mythology in the first movie but move onto a fresh timeline.

I can't verify this since this info comes from a poster on another forum without any link/source to back it up but the script that Chris Rock wrote wasn't even about the Saw franchise. The script he wrote was for a different movie but Lionsgate really liked what he wrote so the studio mixed the two scripts (Chris Rock's script and whatever the screenwriters for the next movie cooked up).

Lionsgate is the one pushing hard for this because they want to replicate the success of Halloween (not to the same extent of course but you get the drift).

The first one is pretty good and 2 & 3 are alright but I stopped caring about the franchise after that. I usually give sequels a chance but this franchise just isn't for me

Oh Lionsgate's fascination with the Saw films. Whatever reason there is.

They'd releasing them until the end of time.

They're cheap to make and they make their money back.

So as Paranormal Activity and Final Destination. But those franchises aren't active anymore. I feel like Lionsgate could have let this rest for a long time. We just had a reboot with Jigsaw and I don't think that rejuvenated the franchise at all and few years later, here's another reboot. To me, its just ridiculous that there's another Saw film. I would like to be surprised by this second reboot take but Jigsaw the reboot just came out 1 year and a half ago.

Chris Rock came to them and said he had a radical new idea.

That’s worth taking notice.

As a huge fan of the Saw movies, I'm glad this looks good because I hated Jigsaw. The police procedural/thriller aspect of the series was always my favorite part. It looks like Spiral is on the right track.

I've always loved the first three and I thought everything after that was a bad fanfic.
