It was a bit jarring in the 1st TV spot admittedly, but after hearing the extended clip with Sue it sounded fine to me, just the right balance of power and pathos.

My $.02.

^^I'm fairly sure the only voice we've been hearing are variations of Fishburne's. I'm just glad that they seem to be leaning towards a voice that doesn't immediately make it obvious who's voice it is.

>^^<

I definitely like Doug's voice better. Fishburne's just doesn't fit the Surfer, IMO.

Well I sent a message to Tim Story and Arad twice about the voice and said to throw out whatever that second voice was that sounded too much like Fishburn with a link to this poll. I'm assuming it was just an error by the editors using old sound or something. glad it's how it should be. sounds great whoever it is.

If that is Fishburn's they've done a great job synthesizing it. It's great how it is. Doesn't sound like him at all which is kind of funny if you think about it. What was the damn point then.

It sounds exactly like Fishburne. I can't fathom how you could think otherwise. Listen to this clip (specifically after the second man slaps the tickets down on the table): http://youtube.com/watch?v=UUKMGEqpA6Q

The voice in the full trailers is Fishuburne, period. Doesn't sound like they digitally altered his voice, either.

I shouldn't be surprised, though, that people can't hear it. After all, people on SHH were all going crazy two years ago because they thought Gary Oldman's Jim Gordon had a foreign accent because of the way he spoke the line "What is that?" in one of the trailers.

Ok the voice from the 1st trailer is now the prominent voice in all the new tv spots. Did we ever find out if that was Doug or that they were both Fishburn? Also I noticed Doug is getting credit at Marvel:

http://marvel.com/fantasticfour_rise

Thanks for that, AD - all of a sudden the credits are coming up for Doug - I wonder if all of the hoo-ha made 'em do it? Because under no circumstances whatever was Doug allowed to be mentioned in the same breath as the character he played for nigh on a year. Ach, Whatever. That's great, and thanks for the link.

It just doesnt' sound like him or nearly as clearly as it does in tv spot #2 where his voice is Fishburn unaltered.

On the contrary; TV spot 2 sounds far less like Fishburne than the trailer does. I can't believe you don't hear the similarities between that clip and the full trailers. It's the same voice.

He's a good actor?

im glad they went back to doug jones's voice, sounds much better

For crying out loud, this is still being debated?
Until someone makes it official, nobody "knows" whose voice is in the trailer.

But I think most would agree, the now-removed voice from the tv spot sounded a hell of a lot more like Fishburn than anything before or since.

I'm really stunned here...they've gone back to the better sounding voice. I just don't know what to say...did they hear us out? Have they intentionally palyed around with the deep vs. celestial SS voice to see what people had to say about it? I really hope they've gone with the softer voice...it just feels right iz all.

In two weeks you'll see that I'm right. I realize you all love Doug Jones (hey, who doesn't?) and that you want Fishburne to sound like crap, but if you listen to these three clips with an open mind you will realize that the voice from the full trailer is Fishburne's.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=UUKMGEqpA6Q (Fishburne in "Bobby.")
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4_2jw4v704 (Fishburne in Heroes TV Spot)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-5QQ0AA2co&mode=related&search= (Fishburne in trailer)

I'm sorry, but it's plainly obvious that all these voices are the same man.

Hell, ignore the clips entirely, if you like, and look at the chain of events from a logical standpoint:

1. Full trailer comes out, and you incorrectly assume the voice is Doug's, even though it is obviously Fishburne's.

2. TV Spot comes out with a different version of the same line. This is not unheard of, but naturally fanboys assume this new reading is that of the evil Fishburne.

3. All future material features the original voice, and new lines that sound like the original voice are heard. Fanboys assume their "backlash" caused the studio to dump Fishburne in favour of Jones.

Does that honestly seem like a realistic scenario to you? That they would ditch Fishburne after the reaction to ONE LINE from a SINGLE TV spot? That they ditched the actor they auditioned, cast, and recorded because of some forumers? Doesn't it seem more plausible that the voice in the TV spot was a placeholder because that spot was edited together before Fishburne recorded his lines? Or perhaps that it was just an alternate recording of Fishubrne? The idea that his voice as been significantly altered via computers is equally unlikely (especially since the voice sounds exactly like Fishburne).

I suppose you're probably the same group of people who insisted that Christian Bale's Batman voice was created through computer distortion. After all, it's not like actors have the ability to speak differently from role to role.

The voice has always been Fishburne...I don't think many people debated that...but its obvious that there were many tweakings that have come with how he'll sound as Silver Surfer...in the theatrical previews vs. the TV Spots...we had two different versions of Fishburne's voice...I never once thought that it was DJ's.

You would be surprised at the number of people who think it is Jones. I know I was.

The last thing I would EVER do is wish that Mr. Fishburne would sound like crap - I respect the hell out of the man, and he is a favourite actor of mine. Indeed, if Mr. Fishburne (Heaven forbid!) DID sound like crap, I would (a) be furious with Fox for choosing him in the first place, like every other SS/FF fan here, and (b) because it would reflect badly on Doug's performance as the Surfer.

I have no opinion on the voice other than Doug SHOULD have done it, but if they HAD to dub him, then Laurence Fishburne is an excellent choice. Fox will never 'dump' Fishburne - that's a fact.

All I'm interested in now is seeing the film when it hits cinemas, and hoping that all of this hoo-ha has been worth it.

And I'm with Malus - I can't believe this argument is still going on. Whatever we think, whatever we would wish Fox to do, isn't going to make any difference whatever - we'll get what we're given, and that's the way it is. Doug Jones plays the Surfer, and the character is voiced by Laurence Fishburne.

Period.

My sentiments exactly......:whatever:

Guys...

I think we've all been played--in a good way. I have strong suspicions that FOX simply had two takes on this line--both done by Fishburne--and deliberately released both knowing full well they'd get a reaction. Then, based on the online feedback, they made a decision and went with Lawrence's softer take.

Does that make sense? :csad:

Makes perfect sense. That's what I think as well. But unlike a few self-appointed auditory experts on here I wouldn't be so arrogant as to proclaim the findings of my ears "obvious."

"The voice in the full trailer is Fishburne, period." :whatever: Please.

I motion this thread be closed pending any actual new information on this mystery. This is just going in freakin' circles.
