Star Trek: General Discussion Part 2

Here is what Star Trek XII will probably be:

There is a strange jungle planet (shades of Avatar) . Cpt. Robert April (Brian Cox doing his American accent) and the crew of ( USS Topol) along with a the Klingon's they were fighting crashed there twelve weeks ago. The Enterprise goes there to investigate a similar incident where another ship (carrying an Andorian botonist) recently crashed. Turns out the planet is senient and telepathic- puts Spock in a coma (trance state), Cpt April and the klingons have all gone insane from the planet's comunication.

-Cpt. April is along his crew and the surviving klingons have all gone insane from the planet's telepathy and have formed a weird "jungle cult"- with April is the insane ranting leader -Trees and vines attack people. -Spock is trapped in the mind of the planet. -the Andorian scientist is held captive by April's cult as a "heretic".
-Spock wakes up and figures out that the planet traps people because that's how it meets new civilizations.
-Kirk, Spock, and McCoy shoot a bunch of cultists.
- Brian Cox tries to kill the planet with a warp core breach, but Uhura uses the enterprise communications array to block his telepathic insanity, April has a moment of clairity before the planet eats him.
-Kirk makes peace with the planet by having Star Fleet send delegates to exchange cultural junk with the planet. The Andorian scientist chooses to stay; because the planet is a child and needs a good role model.

This is an interesting concept, but I think it cuts a little too close to Avatar with the planet actually being a character.

^ Easily avoidable if they just don't make it a jungle planet. The "sentient planet" bit is still similar, but on its own (without the jungle bit) it is not enough to be too similar... at least in my opinion.

Orci/Kurtzman wanted to have the next one deal with an nature being the antagonist.
Many upcoming films will rip off Avatar.
It's only LOGICAL that Trek does it first.

-plus Brian Cox is the bad guy.

I've heard pretty lackluster reviews on the beta.

Really?? that sucks :( I wanna get it, but need to sort my pc out first before I can get my copy.

I got the game and I play it...its a starting out MMO and people tend to think it should have as much content or be as polished as MMOs that have been out for 5-10 years

Love it, such a catchy song!! :)

I loved this movie. I had always wanted to get into Star Trek, I really did, but just couldn't. I was born in the late 80's, and there was just too much for me to get into (and, let's face it, kids like explosions, something Star Trek isn't known for). But after seeing the new one, I've watched a ton of TOS and the first 6 movies. While they are very different, I still like them. But I'm not sure if I'd like them as much if it wasn't for the new movie. Sometimes I spend hours on Memory Alpha just reading about the universe. So good job to J.J. Abrams for rebooting the series in a very effective way.

I want to get Star Trek Online (videogames and books are probably gonna be the only original universe stories made from now on), but I really don't want to pay 15 bucks a month. If I get the game, can I have it on my laptop and on my parent's desktop using the same account? My brother and I may split the cost.

On an only semi-related note: Besides the name, does anyone else find shocking similarities between TheWrathOfGod and TheSumOfGod?

One problem I am finding with the first movie is that the very first scene with GK seems to be the best and most emotional, they dont really top that scene in the movie for me, so something the sequel needs to do is keep raising the bar in terms of emotional and action scene's for me.

Yay! TS won best make-up! At leat it got something. Pine was pretty cool presenting District 9 too.

I rather it get nominated for Best pic and then dont win, than win some category i probably wont remember

yes and I have grown attached to my crew and my ship

I know what you mean, my brother got Star Trek On-line yesterday and finally got around to playing it today, and it's awesome!! :)
