Star Trek Into Darkness - Part 3

Sherlock Holmes was not a good movie at all.

It think it is a very good movie. A lot of fun in the same way as Star Trek. Both films took existing material and turned them into the great Lucas/Spielberg action/adventure films of the 70s and 80s. Not as good, but a lot of fun. The one key difference between the two however is that Sherlock is strong all the way through.

saw the teaser on the big screen yesterday man I cannot WAIT to see this!

So I watched Star Trek: First Contact and that might be my favorite Star Trek movie. If not, the 2009 film.

Picard has grown on me now and I'm glad to have seen him being a man of action while still maintaining the appeal of him.

Generations was eh... Nexus was interesting and the Picard/Kirk team up was cool. And Soran was a wasted villain who has interesting intentions but he was very underdeveloped. And Data with the emotion chip was annoying. I'm glad they continued it in First Contact but explored the humanity in a much better fashion.

I really, really loved the 2009 film when I first saw it, but my opinion on it has cooled quite a bit after having gone back and watched all of the films recently.

Also, yeah, Generations isn't great.

Generations was a lackluster episode of TNG padded out to film length with the stunt casting of Kirk and the trick of killing him off being there to try and prop it up. Maybe if they didn't take him out of most of the movie, and didn't kill him in such a lame ass way, and if the movie itself was better, it might have worked a lot better.

The series finale of TNG "All Good Things..." was more worthy of a feature film, and even the writers (who wrote both) feel that is the case.

Surprised no one is talking about the spoilers I've seen online from the article, about:

Kirk making some tactical error, losing the captaincy and branching out with Bones and Spock on a civilian-garbed mission to stop Harrison.

Wow. It has to be a bad one to lose command then. And I mean BAD. Oh I'm more excited by this film with each pic and tidbit released :D

Don't even pretend that this wasn't the first thing you thought of when you saw the Empire covers.

Well that would certainly address those who thought Kirk became captain too quickly at the end of the first Abrams film. He ****s up and gets it taken away from him and he has to earn it back.

Generations missed the boat in a number of ways. Focusing mainly on Picard was a mistake and they passed on the obvious opportunity of having both era ships on screen at the same time (just do away with that 'Nexus' rubbish and come up with some time twister story to have them together).

And Kirk's death was terrible. Kirk doesn't go out falling from a bridge for the sake of some no mark planet...He should go out leading his ship into a major battle to save the galaxy (they gave that fate to one of the old Klingons they brought back from the old series to DS9).

Only good TNG film was First Contact. Insurrection was like another extended TV episode, and Nemesis was mostly naff.

I think Nemesis is underrated. It came out at a time when most people were sick to death of Star Trek so critic and public opinion was going to be overwhelmingly negative regardless of the actual quality of the movie. Am I saying it's good? No. I'm just saying it's not terrible and that it's been unfairly judged. If I were to rank all of the Star Trek films, it would probably sit comfortably in the middle of the pack with The Search for Spock and the reboot.

Search for Spock and the reboot are vaaaaaastly better than Nemesis.

I would accept "vaaastly" with three a's and no italics, but "vaaaaaastly"? I think you're overstating things. :P

How about we compromise at four a's and an underline... :o

^Haha, I know right. That was random as hell.

Agreed. I'd even place it a bit higher. I love the ending and Tom Hardy as Picard's evil clone were terrific.

Not only did it come out of nowhere it's an odd comparasion because one is a broad comedy and the other is an action adventure film.

I brought up Holmes because someone said it was better than Trek and I disagreed because despite Trek's flaws I found it to be way better than the wacky RDJ show.
