Star Trek Into Darkness - Part 5

You guys are acting like it was a complete redo of WoK....
Kirk sacrifices himself to save the ship, Spock yells Khan
....that is it...unless there is a version of WoK where
Khan crashes the Reliant into San Fran and Khan and Spock get into a climactic fight over the city of Coruscant:woot::woot:...I mean San Fran

I meant that in general, not to you directly. :oldrazz:
Oh yea, I know - just having a bit of fun. :)

@ roach - it's not that STID was a complete redo of TWOK so much as it depended heavily on the nostalgia of TWOK's biggest moments in the final act. That's all. I don't hate the movie or anything - I rather enjoyed it.

Saw it tonight and enjoyed it thoroughly.

Inevitably comparisons to WOK cannot be avoided, and on that level WOK still comes out on top for me (being an long time fan of the old trek though I was more invested in the original cast for that one). Kirk's final moments with Spock in WOK trump the reversal scenes in this one for me, and that brief choke on his words at Spock's funeral still move me (I'd say that was some of Shatner's finest acting in the part).

That being said on an entertainment level this one never lets up, the action is superbly staged, Alice Eve in underwear is never unwelcome, I loved the way Khan got tricked into blowing his own ship to hell (though I saw that coming a mile off), and I didn't even mind McCoys hallelujah moment with the very convenient timing of the revived tribble.

My only gripe, and this just for continuities sake, so I'd consider it no more than a nit-pick, is they could have thrown in some explanation for the dramatic change in appearance of Khan. Having gone for reasonable/passable lookalikes for other major roles, going against for Khan (without explanation) was a little annoying.

But like I said, I enjoyed it thoroughly. WOK still remains my personal favorite Trek movie, but this one isn't far off.

The movie was awesome!

I haven't seen the previous movies before Star Trek 11, so I have no idea about Khan but I had a blast watching movie. Though I wish saw more from Anton Yelchin.

I feel like this article sums up my issues of with the movie. Some could see it as nitpicks, but it does have some valid points.

Knowing that cold fusion isnt cold I assumed that cold fusion powered the device that froze the volcano...it's the battery not the mechanism.

They were trying to sneak in there and their shuttles don't have transporters....to transport into the volcano they'd have to have line of site.
the rest of the article was complaining about not sticking to canon and then complaining about sticking to canon...

I just saw Star Trek: ID and thought it was a very entertaining movie.

I saw the end credits and noticed Chris Hemsworth getting credit. I was so stunned and I didn't catch the part he played. I don't remember seeing any flashbacks of captian kirk's father. So why was his name in the end credits???

When the screen goes black before Kirk woke up..you can hear him and his wife speaking....

I have to admit that it's strange that both ships managed to crash/or float near the same area. SF no less. Did they explain that, especially with the Vengeance?

But they didn't fall together....Enterprise fell, vengeance tried to ram and missed...He then set a course for starfleet...Enterprise followed.

BTW, is the Iron Man 3 board like this? haha, it's kinda scary!!!

The Mandarin thread is pretty bad

just got back and i absolutely loved this film imo this is the summer blockbuster to beat

what i loved about this film was it was a true ensemble piece it was'nt just kirk and spock

i love how bones, sulu, scotty, and chekov all got their moment to shine especially scotty

I think it's just a rule (or lazy writing). Like how Nero, could have drilled anywhere on the planet, but he decided to drill next to San Francisco.

Good thing San Francisco doesn't have any defenses.

There was a part of me who wished the ending didn't involve being on Earth. It wish the conflict ended on the Vengeance in space.

Or if he's trying to take out Star fleet and wants them to see it coming...that they can't stop him. If you want to beat Batman you don't go to Miami to do it.

It's canon for Earth not to have defenses....see TMP and Voyage Home.

V'ger and The Probe neutralized Earth's defense systems in those cases, and in Nero's case, he got the codes from Pike to get through them because apparently Starfleet gives each captain the capacity to shut down the ability to defend Earth.

To be fair, I assumed Nero just wanted the Enterprise's IFF codes or what have you so he could get within striking range without setting off the grid and early warning systems.

One thing that does bug me about Starfleet is the almost total lack of aliens. There's Spock, that little guy who hangs out with Scotty... and I think I saw one on the Enterprise' bridge, in the back. That's it.

At Kirk's Court Martial every officer was human. Throughout this movie we see a lot of Starfleet but barely any aliens. At those high level meetings, not a single alien.

What is up with that? I can understand why we wouldn't see more Vulcans (most got wiped out), but there are barely any aliens in Starfleet.

They should introduce the alien dude from the old cartoon in the next one.

Earth has no stationary defenses. V'ger didn't neutralize anything. It destroyed everything in its path.

While the probe would have neutralized them...again we didn't see them and all we saw were ships trying to defend Earth.

In DS9 the Breen were able to just swoop in and attack Earth and cause massive destruction.

In First Contact the Borg cube gets past a fleet and heads towards a defenseless Earth before it time travels.
