I don't think it works as well as a Trilogy of Trilogies if Ep 7 starts after the deaths of all the major characters. At least one of them should pass through, much in the way that Obi-Wan passed from the PT to the OT.

In fact... have Luke be the Obi-Wan basically, dying in Ep 7. Adapt the Thrawn Trilogy or something like that. The actors from the OT are still alive. Taking advantage of that is just plain old smart. They're all still acting, put them in small roles and let them pass the torch. You want people's attention? Kill Luke Skywalker on screen.

As much as people love some of that stuff, forget the EU. This is what they dreamed of being, why hamper the actual fulfillment of that with every bit of scribble anyone has ever put to paper on SW?

Im actually not a fan of Whedon...and Whedon already tried to do Star Wars it was called Firefly.

To be honest I cant think of anyone I'd think would be awesome for this. Ridley Scott doesnt seem to be a right fit. I could be wrong.

if you think about Lucas told us he was done, he probably was calculating what was his best option to sell to and then announce it. This will be great because as much as i loved the prequels the OT had one film directed by Lucas and the other were great as well.

Even after what Lucas did with the prequels??

He's still going to be a consultant, which should mean he'll make sure it stays true to the mythos I imagine.

I am a fan of how Whedon creates his characters and creates an ensemble cast, he did this great with Buffy and Angel and more recently with Avengers. He'd be great in which all the character would get a good deal of screen time. I have a feeling Lucas will pick a director.
