Star Wars - Part 6

Possibly. He's definatly the smartest business man around. He's sucessfully turned fans against fans, and made them so loyal, they attack anyone who defiles him. So he has the best defense mechanism for his criticsism.

Anything he puts out is eaten up. He uses these cleaver tactics, and I have to give it to him for that.

His business acumen is something to be commended.

Or they attack anyone who makes wild assumptions about anyone who has better things to do than fly into a rage over everything he does.

Works both ways. And both seem silly and pointless.

Attacking anyone for an opinion is silly.

I'm on the internet. Anyone on the internet clearly has nothing better to do. That's why we're here.

You see what I mean? This is the exact thing I was talking about. No one is allowed to have any negative opinions on Lucas. Ever.

Well, when he does something I agree with, I will agree with him. When he does something I don't like...well, i'm not going to agree.

And you clearly have nothing better to do even when you're on this thread to actually bother reading it.

Just about everyone here has complained about what they don't like about the prequels, the special editions, the lack of a blu-ray OT release. The pros and cons of all of these things have been part of an open discussion for over 6 threads now, and they will continue to be discussed as long as it's done respectfully.

We don't apologize that this thread isn't the sobbing Star Wars pity party you seem to want. You're perfectly allowed to bash Lucas as long as you are respectful of the opinions of others. Jumping to the conclusion that someone who disagreed with you on any of these things is some sort of artless apologist is frowned upon in any thread here.

Believe it or not, more than a few of us believe our childhoods have survived the letdown of a few Star Wars movies, still enjoy Star Wars as a whole, and still like to discuss the series regardless of any disappointments that happened along the way. Perhaps it takes actually leaving your own childhood to understand that, and in that case, we won't be able to help you there.

This is clearly referencing some past instances I am unaware of.

I can't be too tinfoil hat about GL, I just think he does his thing and it clearly works for a great many people.

That's kind of where I stand. He does his thing, he makes money and pleases many of his fans. I don't personally care for his perspectives but that opinion is my own and I'm not about to force it on someone else. That would be silly.

Those people being children.

And I think that's part of the reason why Lucas let go of all his advisors/collaborators. They were making the movies suitable for more mature audiences, and at some point, I think Lucas realized, deluded or not, that Star Wars was literally too big to need critical acclaim, or adults of any sort, and in fact, it may not even be possible for Star Wars to have critical acclaim. It certainly can never measure up to the idealized nostalgia its older fans have. As much as we loved SW for the way it captured the imagination, at the time, it was all very kitschy, not to be taken seriously, and yet somehow people did anyway, and so we got darker follow ups, but I don't think that was GL's original vision, or what he thinks of as the reason it blew up so much.

I believe GL is salivating over the idea of CG actors, like the ones TDKR may employ (long story if you haven't been follwing). Lucas will remake large chunks of the OT as soon as it is technologically feasible to do so.

Well yeah. And no one should. But my point in my post still stands. If it bothers you, why do you take it...just because of the brand? Ya'know?

And if it doesn't, great. No problem.

I'm not sure what you mean by "take it".

You mean ESB? It might be kinda serious as SW movies go, but it still has lines like "nerf herder" "I'd just as soon kiss a Wookiee!", a muppet is one of the main characters...it's a 100% kid movie. People need to watch something like The Godfather, then watch ESB and they'll realize how totally silly and kiddie it is.

Well, I read a lot of posts on forums like this...

"Yeah, I hate The Phantom Mence...but it's Star Wars so I'm gonna see it in 3D."

"Those Blu Ray changes are awful. I can't believe he did that. Oh well. I'm buying it anyway."

I just don't agree with that.

Weird....can't quote anything.

But as far as ESB's maturity, it's still pretty mature. It's definatly made with kids in mind, as well as adults.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking of, and ROTJ too, and yeah, it's not "Gritty" by any standard, but there are some serious themes in there that you just won't see in a Pixar film, for instance. I can't pick apart scenes, but it really seems like they put some darker stuff in those films. Maybe it just comes down to the hand being cut off and the Vader death scene.

There is the scene where the Ewok tries to wake up his dead friend, that is kind of dark if you care about the Ewoks.

Excuse me. Aside from that last post....where in this thread I have said anything of the sort?

And as for that last post...well, I do feel like partially correct here. No seriously. I'm sorry, but every single time I post something postive on this thread, it goes unnoticed. But one negative post...OMG DING DING DING ATTACK! ATTACK! Every single time.

I mean, you get posts from the fans, defending every single aspect of the films, never once pointing out any flaws. Now come on...every film has flaws. Even the OT has flaws, and i'd be willing to point them out. But the hardcore fans don't. And it's very strange. They rarely feel any sort of frustration with anything. They just...take it. And I don't know why.

I mean...I don't care if they say "Yeah, I love the changes." But I usually read "Those changes are awful! But it's Star Wars..so I have to get it.

What kind of thought process is that? And then someone posts something negative, and we go through this ******** again.

It all comes from the same thing. The happy fans will bring up something that CLEARLY would annoy the bitter fans, which then causes more issues. (Gary Kurtz)

So I don't know. George Lucas pisses me off. He's going to piss me off until he does something right. Of course I want him to do something right. Why wouldn't I? If i'm spending this much time *****ing about SW, I obviously care.

Would you like a gold star every time you post something positive?

The problem is that quite often when you post something negative it seems as much directed to the people who aren't as mad about these things as you. You don't want the blu-rays or see TPM in 3D? Wonderful, don't go.

You don't understand why people (while acknowledging their displeasure with both) still want to see or buy both of these things? Well, if you can't read through people reasons for both on this thread - because, quite frankly, it's been well explained here often enough - then you're just going to have to chalk it up to one of those great mysteries of the universe inside your head.

For example, you will never convince me that the last two Transformers movies were anything less than crap. But you clearly enjoy them, regardless of their (painfully obvious) flaws...so go forth and enjoy your movies. I don't get it, but I don't really care, either. See how easy that is?

Again, if you think this thread is nothing but a Star Wars defending love-thread, you obviously haven't been reading it.

Well yeah. Not saying it's not dark. I just think Pixar wasn't the best example.

ROTJ has some great stuff at the end. It's kinda cheesy, but it's alright. I never had a problem with it.

All the Transformer films are crap. But I love them. See...admitting flaws.

The Transformers comment seems unnecessarily inflammatory, but I would prefer to move on from the finger pointing as we were having a civilized discussion prior to the accusations.

I've been following TDKR very closely as well, and this is the first time i read about any CG actors in it
