Darkhawk- suckage! I have a problem ( well actually i have alot of em!) with alot of these characters they start off bad and they might get a jumpstart here and there but for the most part they continue to suck for me. I felt DH was a Marvel ripoff of Image's Shawdowhawk ( see even the names were almost the same and ripping off a sorry ass character to begin with..well thats just bad mojo! ( and not the Xmen villian!) i gave him a try but the loser ass teenager had already been done with me and done better by Spidey and Nova!

Ps Hey! Hey! dont get mad at me thats just my opinion which i guess they could say sucks like Darkhawk.

But wasn't Shadowhawk a ripoff of Wolverine?

Umm...no. I think Shadowhawk came after Darkhawk. Whether or not Jim Valentino was inspired by the Marvel character I'm not sure.

Naw great lord of the dead. i thought Ripclaw was a rip of Wolverine! The dude had claws and all that angst stuff with the ponytail loner bad boy! Those guys at Image was ripping everybody off!

Hell yeah they diid i got all those damn books and the kids at Halloween dont even want em! One of told me these Guys Suck!!( hahaha I aint even lying )i cant even give em away!!

Well, some of em turned out okay. After some years away from their Style over substance beginnings.

WildCats comes to mind.

yeah i heard wildcats was pretty good and for while i was into it but after the multiple ten foil chrome cover issues and my money gone. i got so fed up and drop em all! I cant believe i fell for that! i should have known better! multiple issues of the same book what the hell was i thinking!

Can't sleep, even though tomorrow's the first day of school for my kids, and I've already been called in to substitute for the whole week. This is the first time I looked to see what this thread is about; and, neat idea. Too bad the person who thought of it got banned.

Okay, Darkhawk.

Darkhawk definitely reminds me of the early 90's; and, the group of books that I link with it are Sleepwalker, Ghost Rider (Danny Ketch), Punisher War Zone, and ... darn, can't think of the name. It's that weird character that takes people's body parts, and recently came back with a couple Max minis. I know a lot of people frown on those 90's books; but, they got me back into Marvel. Darkhawk might have been one of my least favorite books, though.

While I have the complete collection, I can hardly remember a dang thing about him. What's most memorable is his recent gig in Loners and War Of Kings. Can't say I was exactly thrilled with either direction. With Loners, it felt more like Losers; and, War Of Kings really took things to the extreme, expanding on his history to make me care even less about him.

I do find it interesting the DeFalco created the character, although Fingeroth wrote all 50 issues of the series. The dude resigned from Marvel in 1995 to becoming editor-in-chief of some comic company I never heard of, Virtual Comics. Now, if DeFalco wrote Darkhawk, THAT would be something to read.

Interesting to me, but probably not others, the first 35 issues can still be gotten very cheap. My favorite back issue sight has them around a dollar for NM to VF; but, those later issues get pricey. Final issue will cost you over $12.00; and, this is one of the cheapest sights you can buy back issues on. I do like how people who wrote and drew comics back then talk about their series being cancelled with sales that far exceed most #1 books nowadays. I wonder what the final sales of those last books were.

Nubs, it's going to happen. He already got a taste for Darkhawk in the Ultimate line, just like he did Moon Knight. He'll come back for more:csad:
...the dirt's not washing off. :waa:

Darkhawk is one of a very long line of characters created in the 90s who were "young, culturally aware college age men who suddenky got powers and became rookie super heroes" that were all an attempt to recapture what made Spider-Man work. Since then writers have found ways to make such characters work on their own, to varrying levels of success. Darkhawk seems to have fallen into the nich of being kind of angry and snarky to everybody. He's alright, and I think he works really well in a team dynamic, but he's so underused there isn't much for me to say.

Danny Fingeroth wrote Darkhawk? The guy wasn't even that good an editor......

Shadowhawk went public in May 92, Darkhawk in March 91.

Spidey and Nova are also not a loser ass teenagers, and they have grown up from that phase.

:D :D :D

His character template different enough from the happy genius Peter Parker and wide-eyed optimist Dick Rider (can I say that? :D ) . Like his generation, Darkhawk doesn't seem to be that young anymore but the Universe seems to need the 20 something heroes as buffer to the Avengers/X vets and Avengers/X Academy grunts.

Now, this is just a theory to throw out, but how about somebody just call next for the next character?

I mean, we're on the honor system here, and I don't know, all it would take is one *****e to spoil it, but I like to think we're a pretty decent set of nerds here. Hows that work?

Each character gets roughly 24 hours. You got a character, then call next. And you know, no two in a row by the same person. (Unless it gets dead in here or something.)

Good idea dude

Just like every political ideal:

Good idea, pity it involves people...

What! so i was off for about a year and Shadowhawk was a rip of DH! I am old i entitled to forget stuff. hehe. they are still both are awful characters.come on chief Man. Both Spidey and Nova started off as bullied Teenagers who couldn't get chicks," i dont have any money" yadda yadda " "my life sucks"( yes! i could identify with them, but just like them i got better!I had to stop asking babes "do you think Adamantium could cut Cap A's shield?") Don't get me wrong both are BAD ASS!! I freaking love Nova! But they both did the angsty teenager better... and that's "WhatCHOO" talking about... ( Arnold used the king's royal "choo"!) Mr. Drummond! hehe

It was the 90's. We all did stupid s**t.
Man! for reals Dark underlord Anubis. I still got 100 copies of " the reign of Supermen!" to pawn off!what the hell was i thinking!!

Good idea dude

Yeah, I've since decided against it. It's a dictatorship from now. :awesome:

You guys can PM me if you got any ideas for characters but don't over do it or I'll stab you in the crotch. :o

Up next, the IMMORTAL IRON FIST

Hooray for dictatorship!! :woot:

Mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!! IRON FIST ROCKS!!
10 reason why:

1)had jungle fever before anybody!
2) has the most awesome Brotherly love with Powerman and Showed me that "hey! you know. we all can get along!( i love that!)
3) Only one thing left "must focus all my strength until it becomes a thing of IRON! ( whaa.. his fist i am talking about! get your minds out the gutter)
4) has a cool ass tattoo before it became all the rage.. and unlike most people.. look cool with it!
5) has a hot ass African goddess as his babe!
6) could kick your ass with gold ballerina slippers! that's a bad man jack!
7) can rock the 70's High collar with the shoes and still kick you ass
8) Is rich, but aint a jerkbag about it like Bruce is
9-10) does the nasty with a hot ass Pam Grier soul-sista!( that along makes him a bad man!

Iron Fist is the man! He was fun in Heroes for Hire, and he's also cool as the mystic kung-fu warrior fighting cool **** on his own. He's one of those characters that could fit in many settings.

Oddly enough, when I think of Iron Fist, JewishHobbit comes to mind. He's just crazy for him and the Immortal Weapons!!

Man, let me try and figure out the first Power Man and Iron Fist comic I ever read.

Okay, looking through the old covers on mycomicshop.com, I would bet good money it's PM&IF #73, which had an appearance from Rom. I LOVED Rom, and I grabbed all of the books he'd pop into; and, from there, I know I stuck around for the double-sized 75th Anniversary Issue. That comic had some nice guest stars; and, it was that book that had the second and third appearance of Sabretooth, too. (If I remember right.)

That series had the shocking ending of killing off Danny Rand. I remember being hopping mad; because, I always thought he was the more interesting of the two characters. (Looking back, Marvel pretty much did away with both Iron Fist and Shangi Chi around the same time. They must have thought Kung Fu characters weren't interesting any longer.)

Well, eventually, I stopped buying comics for about 3 or 4 years. When I came back, Namor's title had been going for over a year, and the first issue I picked up of that was number 16, which had Iron Fist on the cover. Sadly, it wasn't the real Iron Fist; but, "the search for Iron Fist" soon followed. Great story by John Byrne, and an even better idea to resurrect a wonderful character.

It's cool that we see so much of Iron Fist now. Brubaker and Fraction made him cool again. I just want the same treatment for Shang Chi. Johnston seems to be up to some cool things with him lately; so, who knows?
