He's all right, but he falls apart under the weight of his own mythology. They set him up to be this be-all, end-all threat to mutantkind, and then he just sort of... went away. I heard he came back, but you'd never know it unless you were looking for him. Normally, you can get away with super-powerful badasses who pose a threat to everything by sending them out to space and making them cosmic powerhouses, but Apocalypse is hamstrung by his connection to--and pretty much sole interest in--Earth's mutants. He doesn't work off of Earth, at least in the incarnations I've read. Someone could make him work in a new context, I'm sure, but no one seems all that interested in trying. So he's just... there. Being a sad shadow of the threat he was supposed to be. A poor man's wannabe-Thanos stuck on some backwater planet in the ass-end of nowhere. The hillbilly of super-powerhouse villains.
