Pfft, Clairemont's "Mary Sue" is Psylock. (Whom I wish had never become Asian all of a sudden and had instead become a Marvels version of Jenny Sparks leading MI13.)

He had a depowered Storm beat a fully powered Cyclops in Uncanny 201. Louise Simonson later explained it away. That's a pretty bad Sue-ism.

Except Betsy became Asian in 1988, Jenny didn't come around until 1997...

Second Class is awesome, Sunfire and Thunderbird were annoying jerks

brought in Wolverine, Colossus, Storm and Nightcrawler. All freakin legendary x-men!

thats my ^%$# right there! 2nd class rocks !those are my Xmen! the ones i grew up with! Wolverine was just a pint sized runt that annoyed everybody! Nightcrawler was a girl loving circus acrobat( not all angsty religious), Colossus was a naive farm boy and not an acolyte, Banshee had been around, Storm was hot! ( not with that butchy Mohawk!) Sunfire was a jerk!( i dont even include him since he left the next issue) Cyclops wasn't a jerkbag but the solider... and my boy T-BIRD! I freakin loooooved THUNDERBIRD!!( T-bird i hardly knew you!!) funny cause him and Wolvie both annoyed people so there wasn't room was for 2 of em on the team ,so he had to die. i always wonder what would have happened if Wolvie had died and T-bird lived! Those dudes rocked and now they suck.. but back then they were glorious!!

He'd be one to take Kitty and the rest to his tribe instead of smuggling them to Canada in the future

Best X-Men ever! Colossus is the best mayne, he deed it. No one is better than that cool guy with the metal skin. Storm was the **** because she controls the weather. Wolverine back then was all cool and mysterious. Nightcrawler was great, and everybody else were just there to not mess it up. /childhood memories

it introduced my 2 favorite X-Men Colossus and Nightcrawler. clairemont with cockrum and then byrne is my favorite time of x-men

Still my favourite team in comics. I like the first class of X-Men but the 'international' recruits had much more depth to the characters. The writing on some of those early 2nd-class issues is top drawer too.

Cyclops and Wolverine both come in for a lot of criticism from fans these days, but they were excellent in the 2nd-class era.

That's it for the second class.

....."Wolverine, you smell like Beer and Vienna sausages."

I liked him on some of the old Avengers teams back in the day. Other than that, I was never a major fan. Good thing too, because if I was into him like I am other characters , I would be furious at what they've done to him recently.

In my top 5. Great character. That old Kirby series was awesome! But it was the Priest's epic run that got me into the character. He's totally bad***. I haven't really read much of his recent stuff, like taking over for DD, but I'll get to it eventually.

I love BP artwork. He has one of the best looks in comic books.

He's a strong character IMO.

He's a dude. A dude who's there. Doing his thing. I don't really have much of an opinion on him either way, to be honest. I didn't know how awesome the Priest stuff was until right when it was ending, and then Hudlin came along...

That one scene where he breaks the Red Skull's jaw in Avengers is totally f***ing awesome, though.

I love Black Panther and the Wakandians, his people being there on Earth and being so advanced instead of being the usual advanced aliens blah, Wakanda made him more interesting
I don't like the decision of making him turn the vibranum inert though, don't know why he did it
I love BP artwork. He has one of the best looks in comic books.
Yeah that

I hate BP. In theory I should like him. I love actual black panthers. I love Batman. BP has a cool look to him. Yet the entire character, backstory, all of it I have yet to experience in an actual comic without it being at best negligible and at worst a big irritation.

T'challa rocks man! one of my all time top guys!( and no!it's not cause hes a brother) hes up there with Aquaman as one of the most noble dignified characters of comic lore.Kirby and stan created a masterpiece with my boy ,breaking all the stereotypes during that time of strife .he's got one of the baddest ass desgins too. Simple, yet ass kicking( thought I hate that >$¥#%*% cape. Dude can hold his own with anyone and he damn sure should get a movie deal!Being one of all time guys means that when your book or you suck. i will take the blue pill and forget it ever happened( call it selective amnesia) and only remember how awesomely rocking you are.BP is a baaad "C A T" jack.

Boy oh boy! Black Panther is my favorite character in comics. Of course it's easy to look up to the 1 iconic black hero in comics, but I find that I love him for far more than that.

What makes T'Challa so great is that he is the perfect jack of all trades. He's intelligent in many areas, but not the smartest guy in one particular category. He may not be able to make a suit of armor like Tony Stark, but he is a good engineer that can do great feats in that same realm while being great in other levels that Stark isn't. He may not be as smart as Hank Pym in whatever the hell it is that he does, but Pym won't be as high as T'Challa in other areas such as political intellect, etc. While Cap may be the best battle strategist around, he will never know how to work the political and science fields as T'Challa can. T'Challa is an expert at every important aspect that heroes do, but he's not some crazy godlike character that makes it boring to read because he is perfect.

In terms of his physical attributes he's basically Captain America, Daredevil, and Batman rolled into one. He's got the peak human physical traits that Steve Rogers has, superhuman sense like Murdock, and a ton of wealth and resources like Batman. His dismantling of Stark in Enemy of the State 2 was just golden. It really shows what he can do.

His biggest problem has been the fact that Marvel doesn't know what to do with him. They had a great thing going with Marvel Knights on the Priest series, but they took him away from that and the exposure of the series lessened as the sales went from good to struggling. The series was highly acclaimed though, so they kept it going for 62 issues of greatness. Cancelling it was understandable, but then they re-upped with Hudlin and gave him a ton of exposure. The book sold well until people realized the ****** writing that was on it. Gimmicks gave the book life, but it seems like they didn't pay attention to the fact that they just needed to explore the concept of Wakanda more instead of trying to force Black Panther into areas where he didn't fit.

The Secret Invasion arc was great because it brought a major invading force into Wakanda instead of having T'Challa abandon his country again. Of course they had to go with making Black Panther female because that was the trend, so the horrible character that Hudlin created from poor logic was given the title while T'Challa was put on the back burner. The book sold poorly because no one cares about Shuri, and they recognized the obvious gimmick. It wasn't because the character lost his market. Doomwar was the perfect opportunity for T'Challa to break into the comic mainstream. You had the top villain who mirrors T'Challa in many ways. Doom should really be one of T'Challa's top rivals when you think about it. Both are very intelligent in many areas, both are the monarchs of countries, and both have some great resources. Doomwar was the villain victory that T'Challa needed, and it could have placed the spotlight on Wakanda so that you some areas of the Marvel U were important besides NYC. It started off well, and it was a decent story, but it got little promotion and had a pretty stupid ending. There was no relationship built between T'Challa and Doom. No major showdown where T'Challa becomes triumphant after much struggle. Hell it wasn't even referenced but once in any other books, thus proving again that Marvel lacks cohesion with their stories.

What happened after Doomwar? T'Challa ups and leaves the country to "test himself" in ****ing Hell's Kitchen. They have a golden concept, but they keep pulling out the rug from it by trying to force a damn king into a stupid role as an urban crimefighter in another country. What's worse is that T'Challa is the only monarch that does that. You don't see Black Bolt or Namor filling in for Iron Man or some **** like that, but with T'Challa they have to pull him away from an untapped area in Wakanda. I think that Liss has written some really good stories with the premise that he has, but that still doesn't make the premise a good one. I really wish that Marvel would have another Doomwar type event, but with Apocalypse invading this time since they already did it with Doom. T'Challa needs to be in Wakanda ruling his kingdom instead of being Daredevil's replacement.
