State Your Opinion on a Character!!!! (Reboot) - Part 2

Only Goblin worth a damn. While he never had any serious victories over Spider-Man, I'd still consider him one of the most competent or successful villains in his stable heck, I say in the whole Marvel Universe. When he first was doing the goblin thing, he was smart enough to have several other characters take the fall for him. After a retirement stint in the Caribbean he came back to improve his shtick by selling non-active super villain IDs including his own. It's been said in this very thread, some bad guys either need to reform or improve their craft if they are going to be in this life. Well Roderick it just that.

Captain Wagner do you wanna take turns in posting the characters since nobody else seems to want do it. And and I'm having a lot of fun doing this =D
-Yeah, we can take turns. And if anyone else wants to talk about a particular character, they can throw it into the mix as well.

-Anyway, I'm glad I'm not the only one out there preferring Roderick to Norman. "Hobbie" pretty much one-upped the original Goblin by fixing the Formula, left a trail of false leads that kept his identity secret for years, and though he never really "beat" Spider-man, probably has one of the most successful criminal careers in the Marvel Universe. I'm really looking forward to his return in Axis.

Hulk smash! Hee hee. He's okay I guess, when he is written well, but I haven't read anything with him in it in a while. :)

I love Hulk, and as part of a team he's even more awesome.

What DO you read?:whatever:

Anyway, Hulk is cool, especially when he's on a team. And the puppy bomb is awesome.

In my eyes, Hulk can do no wrong on a team, solo fighting other heroes due to a misunderstanding, banished to another dimension and kicking ass, shot off to space and kicking ass, getting babes, Smart, Dumb, Street Smart it would seem like you can do anything with the guy....his supporting cast on the other hand, not so much.

I read mostly X-men these days so yeah, I miss out on a lot. I did read Romita's Jrs. run on Hulk years ago when it was Mr. Blue and Mr. Green. That was good.

-Well, I'll try to throw you an "X-Bone" tomorrow. :woot:

Eh, I could take him or leave him. I find Banner more interesting.

I find him frustratring. His history is as complicated as the X-Men's and it's hard to get into his series. I hate all the other hulks exept for She-Hulk and Skaar he's actually a neat idea and a good character. But turning his whole supporting cast into Hulks is fking stupid. I also don't like the stupid hulk most of the time, he can be good but it frustrates sometimes lke, if they use him as comic releif or the way in avengers vs X-men and in Marvel Now he was the dumb hulk even though before in Jason Aron's run he was smart but they changed it just cause of the movie. I really enjoyed the Planet Hulk smart Hulk. I also don't think he works well on a team especialy when he's the dumb one. I actually like him sometimes more as a villain. And Bruce Banner the way he has been written over the years is just inconsistent to me. Sometime's he's this tortured soul but a really nice guy and sometime's he's kind of an dick. I love Mr. Fixit though =D

It heavily depends on who is writing him if he's going to be a good character or not. It seems like a lot of writers stumble and find him tricky to do.

Love this character. I have a lot if history with Hulk. One of my 1st comic characters I was introduced to.

I love ole' Jade Jaws. I think he's a perfect example of how early Marvel was quite revolutionary for it's time for the world of Comic Book Super Heroes. I mean, here was Stan and Jack frankly, hedging their bets, as there was still a fair amount of "Monster" comics around and if the winds of fate had been different, then they could just change gears and keep doing the character/book that way. But Hulk eventually caught on, and enriched the landscape of super heroes with a protagonist that was no mere man of action in tights that puts his hands on his hips and tells kids to drink Ovaltine. Here was a character that had resonance for both the teens who were it's target audience as well as those later in life. Who doesn't feel like the world is out to get them and wants to be left alone, while at the same time also feel contempt for others while telling ourselves it's because we're so innately great? We all have shades of darkness and rage as part of out inner lives. For poor Doctor Banner his inner life comes out... BIG TIME.

I think that the character and it's history has made a most malleable creation that can be fit into many a story yet still hold it's own integrity. That's why so many feel that the Joe Fixit era of the character works, or the Pantheon ear, or the Cross Roads era, and on and on. I will say, for myself, as much as I adored the Pantheon era Hulk books, I think I prefer the basic set up most of all. Banner on the run from villains and the Government, the Hulk as an angry darkside he must keep in check that is but another side of his personality that has contempt for his "weakness."

I don't feel that the last ten years or so have been all that good for the character outside of the highlight of being featured in AVENGERS the movie. In comics the multiple Hulks thing is terrible and insipid. Out side of Jennifer, I don't think anyone else should be called a Hulk and turning Rick Jones into A-Bomb was a terrible disservice to the character, one of Marvel's best creations. In fact the wrongheaded handling of the characters of Hulk and his supporting characters can find it's nadir in the AGENTS OF SMASH toon. It's about everything a Hulk adaptation SHOULD NOT BE. No Banner Hulk dynamic. Rick is just an immature idiot. Hulk portrayed as pretty much a surly, shirtless Superman... Sorry, that's just all wrong to me. Which is also why I don't think Banner being part of the Avengers film franchise is going to last. Whedon himself has stated that the character's MO is closer to a werewolf movie than a straight up super hero story, so think about that when you consider how Banner's going to come out of AoU.

All in all, I've loved most things Hulk and hope that he's around for many more years for kids and young adults to discover.

To me, Hulk is a difficult character to pull off well. But at the same time, the concept of the Hulk is extremely well-done. He is part of one of the few popular live-action Marvel television shows. IMO, his entire premise is as well-known as Batman or Superman. That's quite an accomplishment. On the other hand, it's hard to write a hero that is a nearly mindless uncontrollable rage machine. When done well it's great, but it's also been done quite poorly.

I will say I noticed that the Hulk is a lot more talkative outside the movies. I wonder if they'll start working on that in the movies and give the Hulk a little bit more of a voice.

Okay, squeekness, I kow I said you'd get an X-Man today, but I wound up changing my mind after the Hulk discussion. Don't really, my next choice is a mutant. Really, it is! :halo:

Red Hulk

Eh, not a fan of giving longtime supporting characters powers and making them into superheroes.

Red Hulk?

Look I know some are of the opinion that later writers turned Loeb's sow ear into a silk purse, and he has been used better since his "mystery origin" phase I suppose, but not nearly to the level that made all that "Red Hulk wrecks shop on the entire Marvel U." nonsense any more cool, tasteful or enjoyable. Ross and Betty were better off as non-powered supporting characters. Not a fan in the least of Rulk, in other words.

Pointless. Unnecessary. Next thing you know, J. Jonah Jameson is the next Venom.

I loved him back when he was just plain old Thunderbolt Ross. I can't stand him as the Red Hulk. Like i said in teh Hulk discussion turning his supporting cast all into Hulks is ******ed. I do like Skaar though and i wil stand by him especially cause he wasn't created by Loeb but an actuall good Hulk writer Greg Pak.
