Her turning out to be a psycho disappointed me, I really wanted her to be actually his mom.
But she made some great moments.

Yeah, that was sad. David was maybe the best handler of Jones in all of Marvel's history. When I think of Rick Jones, I think of David's Jones. He really got you invested in Rick as the ultimate Super Hero Sidekick. You felt he was this great and fun character during most of David's use of him. So, you really wanted Jackie to be Rick's mom... Alas, that ole Marvel Melodrama has to rear it's head. But... I guess if it was always sunshine and lollipops we wouldn't be interested in the first place. :cwink:

I always liked Rick, since I saw the 80s Hulk show.
If Rick and Marlo have a son, they should name him David.

David Jones? PERFECTION! Then the David Bowie and Monkee jokes would write themselves! :cwink:

I remember reading that where she kidnaps Rick and kills Marlo. That was a freaky story line.

As much as I like melodrama, I still wish that was really Rick's mom, and that she wasn't a psycho.

VANESSA FISK

Sigh... Poor Vanessa. She's tragic, but... She's kind of blind, ironically. I know that there are all sorts of changes ect. over the years but let's be honest... Her schtick that they are always going to return to is that she loves Wilson and sees some sort of goodness underneath all that evil girth. On that level she works... But I can't say I've ever had great love for the character. It's interesting that the Kingpin has that kind of person in his life and back story but... I can't get too worked up over the lover of a ruthless criminal killer and mob boss. Sorry. In that way she brings up a lot of the some feelings I have for Harley Quinn, another woman in love with a murdering villain. I know perhaps I shouldn't, maybe it's the Catholic in me, but I can't help judging both those characters to be idiots for their devotion, but at least Harley is a nutzoid... What's Vanessa's excuse?

I like the character (wonderfully portrayed in the Netflix series).

In Miller's run, I like that she was the Kingpin's one weak spot. The fact that she was alive was able to destroy the Kingpin's otherwise entirely successful plan.

More recently:
I like that she was forced to show the same resolve as the Kingpin. Her actions in Bendis's run to protect her husband and his legacy was basically a Michael Corleone moment. More surprising is the entire plan she orchestrated in Brubaker's run to trap Daredevil. But I like that, in spite of that, she still had a good heart. She helped out Murdock even though he refused her "offer he couldn't refuse." She's a fairly complex character for someone who started so simply.

I'm surprised she shot her son because he helped stab his father, even after she left Wilson.
That is some love and dedication. Stranger and adorable at once.

i like vanessa and like Mike said excellently played in the Netflix series. I like her cause she humanizes the Kingpin more. that he isnt just this rotund dude who will beat the living ^&* outta you. that under nether that pimp suit and cane he does have a heart and cares. she reminds me of these chicks who fall in love with ted bundy and the green river killer dudes. they know the F%^&ing evil ^&*(they do, but chose to forget that cause they "supposedly" see something the rest of us dont!...but then like most the world they are bat*()_ CRAZY!! hehe
i like her.

oh and sorry to doublepost but HELL YEAH!! "BORN AGAIN" WAS THE MOST EXCELLENT DD STORY EVER!! That was when Matt's" Mom" first appeared! that was when Frank Miller was top dog.... well at least in my opinion anyways.. carry on!

But there comes a point of really diminishing returns. I think it's similar to the whole Jean Grey/Phoenix deal. It was a great story that elevated a, frankly, mediocre character. But they've gone to that well so many times! Same with torturing DD and adding, at this point, almost hilarious levels of tragedy and angst. It's gone too far... It was too far 15 years ago. I understand that they are in a different phase right now with the character so maybe there will be some way to reconcile things. I don't know... For myself perhaps old Matt needs to do a like a walk about or world tour for a couple of years. Maybe get him out of the whole urban scene entirely? Imagine he just does the whole Caine in Kung-Fu thing: Just walks the Earth. Go from town to town. Get in adventures. ;) Get him away from Foggy, NYC, Fisk, the Hand, the crime of urban life and travel the highways and byways of the U.S.A. He's still a hero at heart and he'd still help out when needed, but he'd be in unfamiliar territory. The stories wouldn't be mired in the world of law vs vigilante action. Things could be more straightforward, plus, there could be a chance to introduce new villains and other characters. I think the Catholic in Matt would be attracted to the idea that he is doing such a thing as penance, never putting down roots, just drifting from place to place. I don't know... that's just what I would do.

Did you just quote Pulp Fiction? :hmm

Agree on all points, interesting character that humanizes Fisk and had some very good material in both Bendis and Brubaker's runs. Also agree that she was well portrayed in the new Netflix show.

Also, Born Again was amazing.

I like her. Instead of just having yet another tough mob boss type guy who gets away with things she lets the writers add more depth to the character with an emotional conflict because at various times she's insisted he leave crime and he's had to make a choice. He usually chooses her no matter what happens but eventually goes back to crime.

I loved how they portrayed her in the DD TV show. Very well done with the actress and the interaction between the two of them was great. I can't wait for season 2.

He reminds me of Clock King from B:TAS. Didn't he work for the Kingpin at one point?

That's his job, he's Kingpin's arranger.
Fisk ordered his death, because he made lots of foul ups.
I think he's the one named Wesley in the new show.

Is Deerdevil from Spider-Ham's universe?

Deerdevil better be careful, or he'll end up mounted on a wall somewhere. :sly:

She's pretty weird. Don't like Jack of Harts, and isn't that her son? Did she have a relationship with her own son? Gross.
